London Hotel Help Please

My son 18 has tickets to see Iron Maiden at the O2 on 5th August and is thinking of taking his brother 15. I thought it would be nice for all of us to go for a weekend and myself and my husband could go and see a show.

Where would be the best place to stay bearing in mind we'll be going to different places for 1 night ..... O2 and probably the theatre district. This is from someone who has never used the tube DS18 at Kingston Uni so has been into London a few times.

Would like to do all the touristy bits the next day.

Any suggestions?
