The alarm is set for 6:30. At 6:18 I am awakened by something thumping on my head. That’s odd. Is someone chanting “Pooh Pooh Pooh” or am I dreaming? I open one eye. It’s no dream. It’s Connor standing over me holding a little plastic Pooh toy and hitting me in the head with it. Good morning. While we are getting ready Dad comes out to tell us that they aren’t going into the parks today either. They’ll save the day on their passes so they have 2 full days available when we come back.

Today is the Magic Kingdom again since it’s our last day. The park opens at 8:00. We park the car at 7:56. What a difference a few days makes! I don’t remember where exactly we are parked but it’s in a section not serviced by trams so it’s close. We hop on the monorail with 2 excited kids. We’re going back to see Dumbo!!! We walk down Main Street enjoying feeling like we aren’t smooshed together as we had been earlier in the trip. We stop for a photo in front of the castle. David and the boys watch a show in front of the castle while I head to Tomorrowland to get fast passes for Buzz. I meet up with them again and we head to Fantasy Land. First it’s Dumbo! We ride Dumbo 3 times before moving on (Brandon would have ridden it more but the line was starting to get long). Now it’s back to visit our friend Pooh on his ride. The the carousel a few times. Look! No line for Snow White, let’s do it! Snow White was not a big hit with Brandon. It was “too scary for me.” We appease him with a ride on It’s a Small World and then the carousel again. By this time they are ready for a snack. We learned our first day that Scuttle’s Landing (behind Dumbo right next to Ariel’s Grotto) has frozen drinks like an Icee. They will split one drink into 2 cups for you and most of the time you end up with 2 almost full cups this way. The boys split a raspberry freeze and David and I split a frozen coke. Add a bag of cheetos and it’s a nice snack. Brandon asks what all those people are doing at Ariel’s Grotto. I told him they are waiting to meet Ariel. He asks who she is and I tell him she’s from The Little Mermaid. He says “is she a princess?” I told him yes and asked if he wanted to stand in line to meet her. He looks at me as if I just suggested he eat a vegtable and says “no way! We don’t need no stinkin’ princesses!” That became the quote David will remember this trip by. Unfortunately for Mommy who would love to have breakfast in the Castle, our family has no interest in those “stinkin’ princesses.” Maybe I’ll have a granddaughter I can take one day.

After our snack we went to go ride Buzz Lightyear. Connor thought spinning the car was too much fun so I had a hard time aiming at anything. I don’t think David and Brandon figured out how to spin the car for half the ride. We all really enjoyed this one and David left ready to go again. We didn’t have time to wait so we rode the Tomorrow Land Transit Authority. This slow moving train ride around Tomorrow Land goes into Space Mountain. This confused Brandon and left him telling everyone he rode Space Mountain and it was “really easy too.” When we finished the TTA, it was time to head to the Wilderness Lodge for lunch at Whispering Canyon.

David and I both fell in love with the Wilderness Lodge. The whole atmosphere was so relaxing. We liked the boat ride over, the pool, the loby, the whole feel of the place. I think this is where we will stay in May. The relaxing atmosphere beat out Stormalong Bay for us. We’ll do the Beach Club in a couple of years when the kids are a little older and can enjoy the pool more. After looking around the WL, we checked in for our lunch PSs. We sat down and met our server. Brandon loved the crayons and coloring book pictures they gave him. I don’t know if it’s just for lunch or if they aren’t doing the ketchup thing anymore b/c as soon as they seated us they put a bottle of ketchup on the lazy Susan in the middle of the table. We noticed they did the same thing at every table. David ordered the all you can eat skillet, I had the club sandwich, Brandon had a hamburger and Connor had grilled cheese.` After our order was taken they started the “critter calls show” asking the “audience” to make animal sounds. They asked for a volunteer and Brandon kept saying he wanted to do it. He wouldn’t raise his hand and took his time to decide he’d get up from the table and by that time they had someone else. When she finished he was ready to go. He walked right up and offered to do a sheep. I was so proud of him! He did his sheep noise, got his applause and his Magical Moments certificate and told the guy “my Dad can do a monkey!” So of course this meant David had to do a monkey. I guess after 4 days at Disney he has finally overcome his “I don’t want to look like an idiot even if it means I’m having fun” thing b/c he put on quite a show. He go a magical moments certificate too. Brandon wanted to hang his on the wall with all of the drawings they had on display. Shortly after our food came it was time for the horse race which Brandon happily participated in as well. Connor was just loving the fact that it was time to eat and that no one was shushing him at all during this meal! David had made me promise not to tell anyone we were celebrating his birthday but he didn’t make Brandon promise! I suggested to Brandon that he tell our server we are celebrating Daddy’s birthday. He decides to go one better and stands up in his chair to start singing happy birthday to Daddy at the top of his lungs. Our server came by and joined him and then jokingly offered him a job there. David got a free desert and of course lots of ribbing from the staff. Our server gave him a near heart attack after he took our credit card. He goes to the back and a few minutes later yells from back there, “David _________, I have some news about your credit card!!!” David’s face starts to lose it’s color as “Cousin Rob” comes out yelling “It still works! Disney loves you!”

Since it’s our last day we wanted to make sure the kids saw Spectromagic and Wishes so we decided to go back to the RV for a nap and then head back to the parks. The kids took an almost 4 hour nap before we headed back in. Brandon wants a long monorail ride so we did the resort loop. When we are sitting at the station in the Polynesian, a family was getting ready to board the monorail. Their daughter was maybe about 5 or 6 years old and started to get on first. As she got on the doors started closing BEFORE the “please stand clear of the doors” message played. One of the doors caught her right on the head. It knocked her back a fair bit as her mom yanked her off the train. I worried about her all day long hoping that she was OK b/c that door hit her HARD. As we pulled away her Mom was holding her and trying to comfort her as she was sobbing and holding her head. Did she belong to anyone here??? If so, is she OK???

We got back to the Magic Kingdom and went to go have dinner. We took the train around and ate at Pecos Bills. We used the last of our quick and casual vouchers for dinner. David and I split a chicken wrap, chili cheese fries and chocolate cream pie. The kids shared a big hotdog, fries and a chocolate cream pie. We had more than enough food sharing this way. We saved about $9 using the vouchers too. One warning about Pecos Bills, when you see the thing that says “hot cheese” on the condiment bar, what it means is “scalding hot cheese that will blister your skin if you accidentally squeeze your cup while trying to load your 3 year old up with pickles.” I ended up with a big blistered burn on my hand and a big cheesy, pickle-y mess on the floor around my feet. I am thankful that it was me and not one of the kids who found out how serious they were when they say HOT CHEESE. We took our time with dinner and the hopped back on the train b/c this is all Brandon wants to do at the moment. We got back to Main Street as the first show of Spectromagic was starting and found out that the top deck of the train station makes for a great parade viewing point! There were bunches of people in front of us so we got back on the train again to get out of there. We would see the second show of Spectro AFTER Wishes. We did Alladin’s magic carpet and the Country Bears again. By that time it was time to find a spot to see Wishes. Brandon is not a loud noise kid so he is worried about the fireworks. I set him up with ear plugs and he did fine. We watched the show from Liberty Square. We had no idea this was an area Disney recommends viewing Wishes from. I had been telling friends it was a great show but from where we watched it we didn’t see both layers of fireworks overlapped as I thought they intended for it to be. We picked the spot, right by the bell because it wasn’t crowded and we could have the kids on our shoulders without blocking anyone else’s view. There were more people on the other side of the square, maybe that was a better viewing area. Can you see the castle from anywhere in Liberty Square? We couldn’t from where we were standing. I told David about Tinkerbell’s flight and he says we have to be sure and see that in May. After that he’s obsessed with spotting her line from the castle.

After wishes we head back to our regular hang out of Fantasy Land. Our first ride was “kids choice” so Brandon and I went back on the Dumbos (at our longest wait of 15 minutes) while David and Connor rode the carousel a few times. I stopped in Pooh’s Thotful Shop and asked how late could packages still be sent to the front of the park. The CM tells me 10:00. I go back and tell David that we need to make sure to let the kids pick their Pooh tee shirts and let me get the scrapbook I want before 10:00 so we don’t have to carry it around. One ride through It’s a Small World and it was getting close to 10:00 so we head to “the Pooh store” again. The boys pick their tee shirts, I get my scrapbook and head to the line. The family in front of me of course has about 50 items and of course decide at the register that it’s going to be too much so they are playing the “how much would it be if we took this and this out? Well what about this and that and these here?” game. Tick tock tick tock, 10:00 is getting closer and closer. They finally pay but now Junior wants to trade pins with the cm working the register. Of course he takes his sweet time deciding which of her 10 pins he wants. Meanwhile Brandon is bringing me item after item “just to show you Mom.” He’s saying, “this magnet is so neat. I wish I had a magnet like this one.” If only Grammy were here. She buys him whatever he wants. It’s finally my turn and I say, “can I PLEASE still have these sent up front?” She looks at her clock. “I’m sorry, Ma’am, it’s 10:04, the cut off was 10:00.” Sigh….oh well, I really do want this scrapbook.

So now it’s 10:0something and we’re in Fantasyland. The second showing of Spectromagic starts at 10:15 so we’ve got to go find a spot. Of course the circle by the castle is packed. DH keeps saying, “lets just stop here” as I’m prodding everyone along saying “get closer to the end of the route, it won’t be as crowded.” He’s insisting I’m wrong, that this is “as good as it gets.” I keep saying “trust me…keep moving” and we press on. We walk though Liberty Square just past the handicapped area and lo and behold, what do I see over there? Front row seats! See, David. Sometimes research pays off! We steak out our spot with me sitting on the ground holding Brandon in my lap, Connor in the stroller next to me and David standing behind us. Brandon reminds me very loudly that I had promised him a Pooh lollipop while he watched the parade. I dig the “lollis” out of the magic fix everything bag and hand them over. The area around us starts to fill up. When another family with little kids comes up and was going to be stuck back behind us we offered to move the stroller. The parade was just starting to come around the corner so I gave Brandon to David to put on his shoulders and sat holding Connor. We pushed the stroller aside and had enough room for this family to do the same, Mom sitting with a kid, Dad and another kid behind them. I can’t even begin to describe how much the kids loved Spectromagic! David even enjoyed it and said “I’m glad we didn’t miss this, this is great!” Connor ended up standing in front of me dancing with me using my lanyard as a leash around his waist. He got a high 5 from Peter Pan, kisses on the head from Snow White and Mary Poppins and Cinderella blew him a kiss. He’s big into blowing kisses so he returned her kiss as well! Truth be told, he blew kisses to everyone from the trumpeters at the start to the cast member following the parade and rolling up the rope but Cindy was the only one to toss one back to him. Brandon still talks about “the Christmas light parade.”

After the parade passed we made a bee line for the Buzz Lightyear ride. Once again, Connor spun the ship around so much it was hard to aim at anything (but I still managed to beat David by about 200,000 points!). Once off Buzz the magnet of Fantasy land tugged us back in that direction again. I wanted to do Astro Orbiter but Brandon was insistent that he had to go do the teacups, Pooh and Dumbo before we left. After a short bathroom break we were back in Fantasy Land yet again. We did three rounds on the teacups with no wait in between, had a less than 5 minute wait for Pooh and walked right on to Dumbo. By this time it was close to midnight and closing time. I’m amazed the kids lasted all that time without getting fussy at all. I guess the combination of an almost 4 hour nap, a caffeine filled soft drink at dinner and the sugar high of a lollipop gave them the energy it took to close the park!

We stopped in front of the castle to watch it change colors for our kiss goodnight. Brandon asked if we could go in the castle and was disappointed to be told no. After a while he asks “is Cinderella in there takin’ a bath?” Yep, she’s getting ready for nite nite just like everyone else. I stop to buy the postcards I kept forgetting to get and we make our way out of the park. Connor starts nodding off in the stroller as we walk down Main Stree. David told Brandon to tell Disney World good night. Brandon blows kisses and says “Goodnight Cinderella’s castle! Good night Dumbo! Good night Pooh and Piglet and Tigger! Goodnight Buzz! I love you and I will come back in May!” The magic of Disney had even gotten to David. He kept turning around to get one last glimpse of the castle as we were leaving. At least I didn’t feel so silly for doing the same thing, and wiping away a tear or two, myself.

Once out of the park Brandon is excited about taking his last monorail ride. David points out the huge line for the monorail to the TTC and suggests the boat. I suggested that we try the resort loop monorail since it looked like there wasn’t a line. We’d only have the one extra stop at the “Monorail’s House.” We head up that ramp and sure enough, there are fewer than 10 people on the platform waiting for this train. We get an actual seat on the next train. Brandon wanted to ride up front but alas one of the 10 people on the platform had already asked. David wonders why no one else has the idea to take the resort monorail and why Disney didn’t have a cm suggesting it. I can’t answer the first part but the answer to the second is likely that they don’t want to inconvenience the guests that are paying $300+ a night for a room at the resort stops!

Connor is sound asleep by the time we are at the TTC. Since he’s asleep David says he’ll walk and push the stroller to the car (about a 7 minute walk) and Brandon and I can take the tram. We pass them on the way. We were on the back car of the tram and the girl working the microphone obviously heard me telling him “look up there, there’s Daddy and Connor” because as we are approaching them she says “if you look to the driver’s left you’ll see Daddy and Connor. Everyone say HI DADDY!” This was a perfect end to Brandon’s Disney vacation! He got a real kick out of that!

Once off the tram and walking to the car he announces, “my feet hurt and I am not walking another single step!” He did make it to the car as we played the “oh no, our shadows are stuck to our feet!” game.

All in all, it was a fantastic trip! With Mom’s guest assistance pass on the first day and careful planning, fast pass and early mornings the rest of the week, we really didn’t have to wait long at all for anything. There were a few things we missed (Fantasmic, the Lion King show at the Animal Kingdom, Mickey’s Toontown Fair) but they will all still be there in May. We let the kids guide us and we had a blast doing it that way! Even my grumpy husband admits that it was one of our best trips and that he’s looking forward to going back in May…and hopefully one more quick trip before the AP’s expire. He says he had a blast with the kids and feels like the trip brought him closer to them.

The next morning Connor and I both woke up with fevers. I slept most of the way back home and still felt horrible the next day. Monday Connor and I both went to the doctor, turns out he had an ear infection and I had developed pneumonia in both lungs! The doctor assures me it must have happened in the days since we left because there is no way I could have “done Disney” if it started while we were there. Doesn’t matter, I had fun anyway!

Oh sounds like a great day! Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

(Oh yeah, even when we don't stay in monorail resort, we still take the resort monorail. It may take a little longer, but it's NEVER crowded, and you almost never have to wait. Shhhh, it's a good secret!)

I loved your trip reports. I read them all in one sitting! Your boys sound adorable. It was fun to read thier reactions to all of thier Disney experiences, and I even got teary eyed too when your little boy met Pooh.:D

I really enjoyed all your reports. I'm so glad your holiday trip was magical and that you managed to miss most of the crowds. Thanks for posting.

I loved reading your trip reports, and I'm so sorry you and Connor got sick, but thankfully after your trip. Hope you're feeling better now. I look forward to reading your reports again after your May trip. I haven't written a trip report since my August 1998 trip, but you have inspired me to do so again. They really do help you to relive the "Magic".

I too have two boys and there is no way they would ever do a princess thing. The closest I have come is I went down with my young son and another mother in 2002. She had three daughters with her so we di a lot of things I normally don't do such as Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid (my older son has always been afraid of Ursula). When we were there this past Aug these are places I never even suggested to my Dh and sons now 18 and 13.
I am now thinking about an all girl trip with this mom another from our scout troop. Maybe tea at the GF and a princess breakfast.

Dona :wave2:

Wonderful report ~ Thanx for sharing.
