Logistics of Connecting Rooms

I'm considering getting another room and requesting that they are connected (or next to each other at the very least). I just changed my reservation from Coronado to POFQ. When it comes to the two rooms:

Can I book them both under my account under my reservation? Or do I need to officially put one adult in each room?
Will each person in my reservation have access to both rooms or do I assign rooms?
When/If the AP discount comes out for rooms and it possibly applies to my reservation, do you think I could get the discount on both rooms?

I'm thinking about this option because it's going to be the four of us (two siblings, one half sibling, one cousin, 13, 16, 19, 22) and because we are driving there and back and will be together all week, we might want some space from each other so we're not getting on eachothers nerves after a while. Any thoughts about this? What is your experience with connecting/adjoining rooms? Technically, I don't care if they are exactly next to each other, but I'd much prefer them to be connecting or at least adjoining.

You need an adult in each room as the lead on the reservation. They don't guarantee connecting rooms- we put in a request and usually follow up a few times to make sure it's in our reservation. Only those on the room will be able to open the doors- you can switch out magic bands or use an extra so that others can get in the room. That's what we do when we've gotten connecting rooms with our sons.

We have received connecting rooms most of the time- the couple of times we didn't we were able to move within a day to obtain them. Now that mine are adults, we're not so worried. We did get adjoining rooms once- next to but no connecting door.

We haven't had great luck in AP discounts at POFQ but if available yes you can add it to both rooms.

Connecting/adjoining rooms are a request and are NEVER guaranteed no matter what you are told. There are several posters here with horror stories about being told they were guaranteed and then not even being in the same building.
Each room ends an adult as lead guest.
Guests only have. Access to one room ata time. You can request additional key cards at the desk
No one knows about discounts. It is certainly possible that you could apply a discount to both rooms

You will have to have the 19 year old as lead on one room, and the 22 year old as lead on the other. As Hopefully pointed out, connecting rooms are a request only. And just so you are aware technically each "adult" will be expect to sleep in a different room. If you decide to not do that, the odds of being caught are small, but Disney would be within their rights to make you leave. I wouldn't expect that to happen, but to me it is best to know what could happen.

Most likely if we do this, both would be sleeping in separate rooms anyway just as the way we pair up.

Here's how I booked 2 rooms at POFQ, using an AP, at a rare time where there was an AP discount, with me as the lead guest in both rooms. I did request, and receive, connecting rooms.
We had a slight twist in that we did not have both rooms for the same length of time. I did this all online, the AP discount was already in effect when I booked so I didn't need to apply it later
Booked room #1, Me as lead guest with DH as guest #2, for 5 nights
Booked room #2, Me as lead guest, with DD as guest #2, and DGD as guest #3, for 7 nights
Called Disney to have them associate the 2 confirmation numbers with each other and note that we wanted connecting rooms as our #1 priority. About half the rooms at FQ are connecting so I felt good about it. I also used Touring Plans room request service to do the same, I entered both Confirmation numbers on the fax and noted that we wanted connecting rooms as our #1 choice.
Arrived early am, went to front desk, room not ready but they confirmed we did have connecting rooms. They confirmed that my band would only work 1 door at a time, so I had it coded to work room #1, DD's band worked Rooms #2, we kept door open between rooms for the 5 nights anyway.
DH left and I moved over to other room and my band was then changed to open room #2.

Since that stay, which was in November 2016, they have added this option online, when you book. So no, you can't guarantee a connection or nearby room they do have a way for you to at least let them know you have a party you are traveling with.

Historically, CSR is more likely to have a discount than POFQ. CSR May also have more flexibility with connecting/adjoining due to size.
