I was wondering if anyone had any problems locking their luggage ATA said they prefer you not lock, but i am not feelin that at all, can you lock it after it is checked-i mean the checked bags

Sure you can lock it after they scan it but not all airports do that in front of you. Also if they need to open it they may break the lock. You can use the cable ties and carry a pair of nail clippers in an outside pocket of your suitcase.

Don't put anything valuable in your suitcase if you want to see it again.

Just exactly as safetymom said, we use the very thin (but strong) cable ties and have a set of nail clippers handy.

I've also heard of using bread type twist ties, too.

Just can't see not using anything, because as the saying goes, 'an ounce of protection'...

I never use anything. I have a theory that all a lock does is tell the thief there is something they may want there.

ATA may perfer you don't lock you luggage, but it is not really thier call. The TSA sets the rules.

At my airport I don't think you could get your luggage back to lock it.

You can buy the TSA approved locks at Brookstone and a few other places. Supposedly only the TSA can open these locks. I would use this if you must lock your luggage.
