Locking Down Parks at Night

Greetings All,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I used to work in the security field and was just randomly wondering about how they close the parks down at night. I know that the MK has those big gates under the train station that they could lock down, but how about Epcot? I am assuming AK and DHS has gates that be closed as well but the entrance area to Epcot is so expansive.

Sorry for the random question but this board has provided me with so much info and I'm hoping you can satisfy my curousity. Thanks!

Never been there after park closing, but my guess would be that they don't really "lock it down". There are CM's there all night long cleaning, fixing and getting things ready for the next day. I don't think they officially lock the door.:cool2:

All of the Parks except TL have electric-powered gates that come down out of the roof over the turnstiles. You can see the tracks on the sides of the supports in front of the turnstiles.

At TL there is a chain gate that rides on a track and is stored during the day in a shed next to Guest Relations. There are padlocks at either end, as well as some that lock to links buried in the pavement.

Cheshire Figment, you are such a wealth of knowledge and information :cool1: Thanks for sharing it with us :thanks:

jmc1, :welcome: to the DISboards  As you can see, you came to the right place to learn all things Disney

Thanks for the info...and the welcome! Be at Pop in 40 days but who's counting?

ok, I'm curious. While riding the train around MK, it seems like somebody could just walk in from the back. Surely not! What am I missing?

Does mk have turnstile gates or just the gate under the train station? How do they lock the ttc at night? I'm fascinated by this Disney knowledge

You pass through the turnstile gates when you give the CM your ticket. Once past there there are no more turnstiles. There are larger gates at each turnstile to accomodate strollers, wheelchairs etc.

It does seem like if there was no one around it would be easy to sneak in.

It just doesn't look like it can be locked up tight like as if it had an 8 foot chain link fence around it.

I'm sure if someone tried to sneak into a park big brother would see him in a matter of minutes and security would nab him soon after. I'm willing to bet that other than the inside of the bathrooms there is not a place in any of the parks that is not seen on security cameras.

As far as sneaking in, I was really referring to the area between toontown and Main Street. There are a few places that look like you could just walk over a hill and be in MK. It can't be that easy.

It does appear that there is water that people would have to cross...but really not that difficult. What's the deal?

It's never readily apparent, but I don't think anyone inside a park's perimeter could sneeze without a security guard somewhere saying 'bless you'. I've read in many places that Disney has some of the most comprehensive security around. Kind of like on KS at AKL: The animals look like they can move around as they please, but if they try to stray where they shouldn't......

No gates close during the night, they use the entrance of MK for acess so they can get equipment in and out easier.

It would be harder to sneak in than you realize, there is a 8ft+ fence surrounding the park, then there is some swamplands/ pond/ forest depending where you're at plus a berm that surrounds the entire park.

And it's not like the place is empty at night. The so called 3rd shift is there doing maintenance etc. I've seen figures like 2000 (could be more) people there at night. Somebody sneaking in would be noticed.

I just have this feeling that there are more CM's out on the streets overnight than during the day.
