Lock off vs Dedicated?

We prefer dedicated to get the extra "real" bed in the second bedroom. We haven't yet had to sleep anyone in the living room, so that has always been available for disruption free late nights or early mornings. "We" are usually a set of parents and two adult sisters. Having separate bedrooms is enough privacy for us.

Because you get 2 queens instead 1 King?

Because you get 2 queen real beds as opposed to 1 queen and 1 queen pullout couch or queen Murphy bed in the 2nd bedroom. The master in all 1/2/3 bedrooms is the only King available

The only exception is OKW as those studios have 2 real beds so that you get an extra vanity in the dedicated vs kitchenette in the lock off

Depending on where you are going that second closet can be nice to have.

"normally, I would say yes" :)since I take the house with me :guilty: - I am trying for the first time (October) flying with a carry-on and backpack (my DD already has a few of my toiletries/she is driving). If it works out, will do the same for the trip after that (April). My DS (April trip) /will probably take a small bag also since he is driving/while his family flies/with me/he will have all the luggage/he does not fly).

This is so smart. I should have thought of this for my upcoming trip!

Yes, with the 2BDR - it has only happened once where one party might not make it
but it can happen. If no one else can join, then you have used all those points. After these next two trips, I doubt I will do a 2BDR again (I never say never lol - Two studios (less points) or a 1BDR and a studio if
I have points to burn).

( I am not sure if I quoted right post/have been having trouble with keyboard and getting frustrated keep going back to correct my mistakes/apologies if messed up.).

We did a dedicated at VGF a few years ago when we had one 6 month old in a pack n play. Grandparents had the master. There wasn't a lot of room in the 2nd bedroom for the pack n play. Everything felt a little bit squished when we were in there.

This year we are at BWV so no choice but to have a lockoff. We've also got the now 3 year old and a 1 year old. 3 year old will go on the little murphy bed and the baby's pack n play will fit in front of the sofa. Not having a second queen bed taking up floor space will be nice.

Aren’t you paying like triple the points to do that??
It is certainly a premium but it’s sort of like getting insurance. Since you know you are not canceling you would have to eat the points on the two bedroom but you could get them back this way if they cancel. If they need to cancel fingers crossed it is 31 days or more so they don’t go into holding. Even if they are in holding they still have the chance to use them where again they would be wasted if it was used on the 2 bedroom.

So far we prefer dedicated because we like to feel like we are all in the same house. :)

Also, it leaves more studios and 1 bedroom available for those that don't need a full 2 bedroom.

Thanks for letting me stay at your home resort at 7 months in a 1 bedroom!!

Own at BWV and thus we can only get a lock-off. Also own at AKV. When at Jambo, there is only lock-offs. At Kidani we get the dedicated. it provides the second queen bed rather than a couch pull-out in the second bedroom and the balcony for savanna view is better. The lock-offs have a wall on the balcony between the 1BR and studio. The dedicated have one long balcony running across both rooms and thus all can be on the the same balcony together, and there is no wall blocking part of the view while sitting on the balcony.

Yea I was just looking and it really isn’t that bad, only a few points extra per night.

We do like having the second real bed in the bedroom of the dedicated 2 bedroom. If we are with another group, we like the lock-off for the extra door to come and go. For the most part, we book dedicated ones.

We go with extended family - usually my parents, me and my family (5 all adults at this point) and my sister with her family (4, including 2 teens). Where people stay determines what set of rooms we get. Usually, my sister and I will split a 2BR. In that case we get a lockout so she has her own kitchen area/space (that can also depend on the resort). My sister will usually take the studio side and my family will take the 1BR side. My parents will get a 1BR (and take the extra kid if needed).

This trip we are splitting a 2BR with my parents and my sister is getting a studio for her family. We got the dedicated 2BR as we wanted the extra real bed in the 2nd BR. My entire family is also not going this trip so we won't need any of the sleeping space in the living area.

When we’re traveling with our sons, we usually get a dedicated 2BR so that they both have a real bed. However, they don’t mind the murphies, so we started to do more LOs with them, so that they have their own kitchenette.

When we travel with family or friends and are sharing a 2BR, we book Lock-Offs. While sometimes the extra sleeping surfaces are handy, it’s usually to give them more privacy: the bathroom is in their room (in some 2BRs it’s separate) AND they have their own door to the outside so don’t need to go into the main room to leave if they don’t wish to. Not to mention they get their own kitchenette with fridge and coffee machines.

We choose a dedicated when we're traveling with the grand kids, because we don't want them playing in the kitchenette that's included in the lock off. Plus, at BLT, the dedicated comes with two queen beds, which is good because the 7 year old is a "bed hog" and sleeps with her arms out. I blame her parents for giving her a queen bed at age 2.

Yeah it depends on the resort but to be honest we never really pay attention to maximum number of people per room because our max is 3 people to a 2 bedroom.
This 1000%. I see people mentioning 9 people versus 10 in the thread, and there is literally no chance in hell I’d ever stay with 8 other people in a hotel villa/suite. No matter how many rooms it has.

I agree I wouldn’t have that many people in the room but with more capacity you can add local friends to your reservation who can then use extra evenings hours.
