We really want to buy into dvc.I keep reading about buying where you really want to stay.We have never stayed at any of the resort,we have visited them before and really like hanging out at the boardwalk, but we also like the setting at vwl.I don't know much about any of the others. They all look beautiful. So i don't know if I should buy a resale or if i should buy ssr.We love hanging out a dd.I always thought that you could trade into any of the resorts so does it really matter where you buy?

If there's a place where you REALLY want to be able to stay WHENEVER you want (and you're willing to plan 11 months in advance) -- buy there.

If you're the type that won't make reservations more than 7 months in advance anyway, then it doesn't matter.

One reason to buy at the location you like best (Home), is that you can book a ressie at 11 months. You have a 7 month window to book a ressie at other resorts. The 11 month window helps out alot when trying to book a ressie at peak times, such as Xmas and other busy holidays. I go with the majority, buy into the resort you like best, for us it was the BWV.

It does matter and will matter more in the future as more and more members join. The issue is that you can book a reservation at 11 months out at your "home resort" (where you buy). Other resorts in the program but not your "home resort" you can book out 7 months in advance. This is called the 11/7 Rule you will see mentioned frequently here and on similar boards.

So if you want to stay at a specific resort it gives you an advantage in booking in advance as others who do not have that particular resort as their "home" have to wait till the 7 months window as opposed to the 11 month window of your home resort. So buying where you want to stay is recommended for that reason.

I would recommend reading the FAQ's on these boards and ask lots of questions before buying as there are many experts here on numerous DVC related topics which will make your decision much easier for you as it did for me when I purchased earlier this year. These people here are great and offer their knowledge and advice freely so take advantage of this and ask as many questions as you may have before making a final decision. Good Luck and hopefully we can "welcome you home" sometime soon!!!

the only time I have had a problem is the first two weeks of December - the parks are pretty empty - DVC resorts however are hopping....

many DVC member love this time and go every year.

the Christmas decorations are up - everything (and I mean everything) looks great.

the Christmas shows are happening.

this is a great time to be at WDW - the weather can be unpredictable - but most of time it is great too.

Also hard to get time is Thanksgiving week.

for food/wine festavial - the Epcot resorts - BCV and BWV can be hard to get.

Christmas week is generally not hard to get - it is very crowded at the parks and most regular visitors (which DVC members tend to be) avoid this time - oh someone might go once - but that is generally not a popular time with DVC members.

If you ever want the standard vs preferred view at BWV - it is best to own at BWV. they are very hard to get all year long.

however if you case - since you seem to like everything - maybe you could consider OKW - it is cheaper and has the lowest maintence fees - but you need to ask yourself will be happy staying there if when you try to change at the 7 month time does not work. if you can answer yes - you have found your resort - if no - kept looking.

We usually go on vacation late July or early August.I have been looking at okw.It looks very nice.Since I've never stayed at any of the resorts. So if I wanted to trade and didn't get it I don't think i would be unhappy.I'm worried that SSR is going to be to crowded from what I keep reading. Is there only 2 pools there? So maybe I'll look into OKW and see if i can find any resales.

Also depending on your age, the length of the contract may be something to consider. All the contracts expire in 2042, except for Saratoga Springs which expires in 2054. We are in our mid- twenties, so this was an important factor in helping us choose Saratoga Springs.

Also, look at point charts and maintenance fees. Old Key West has the lowest fees and point structure, while BWV, BCV, and VWL have the highest. Saratoga Springs is in the middle which also helped us to decide there.

2004
OKW $3.68 per point
BWV $4.25 per point
VWL $4.22 per point

or that is what I have - someone else I am sure will post BCV and SSR
