Local words or phrases that you hate

Have no idea where this came from but I detest the saying, "I love me some...whatever." Love me some? :scared: And yes, it's been used here quite a bit but it seems to be fading away.

I say soda, but I am the only one I know who does, everyone else says pop.

I am the only one besides my parents that says soda. Pop is a loud noise, not something you drink! ;)

I hate when people use the word 'yinz' also when they said them instead of they. i.e. them look yummy

There are a few people in Buffalo who say "yous" as in, "Are yous done with that food?" Makes me cringe. Even better, "Yous guys" or "yous guyses." Also, "can I come with?" "I don't know where she's at." Cringe!!
What's wrong with the last two phrases you mentioned? Perhaps I am showing my ignorance, but they sound pretty ordinary.

I don't know why but I do not like to hear "Cali" for California. My daughter has said it for years and I've hated it and do not know why. We're pregnant is another one

Ugh... I hate, "we're pregnant." Yes, the man had something to do with it, but the woman is who is actually pregnant. My neighbor took it one step further. When she told me her birth story, she used phrases like "when we were 6 cm dilated" and "when we were pushing." GAG.

Yous guyses is the plural of yous guys. Lol. I'm from Chicago and that's what we say too. I know, it's awful.

"Yinz guys" accompanied with the Pittsburgh accent...Ugh! It just makes whoever is saying it sound so dumb.

I can't think of any regional/local words or phrases from my area that I dislike, although there are lots of widespread words and phrases that I dislike that are not particular to one locale.

However, when it comes to regional words, I LOVE "y'all". It clarifies the plural "you" from the singular "you", and it is really just a contraction for "you all". It's a great word.

Some people don't like when folks end sentences with a preposition. It doesn't bother me. In fact I do it on purpose to tick off my sister.

A local one that does bug me is when people pronounce "Reese's" - like the peanut butter cups- as "Reesie's". I heard a guy at work say " Reesie's Piecie's" the other say. I corrected him on it- which is saying a lot because I very seldom correct anyone.

YES! I hate some of those local Pittsburgh expressions. Yinz is the worst. I also don't like the way people here drop the 'to be' as in 'the dishes need washed'.

There's a great mix of cultures, languages, and dialects in southwest FL, so I've gotten pretty good about figuring out what people mean when they say a word I don't know. But when I first moved here I was completely stumped the first time someone was referring to their buggy. The only thing I could think of was a horse & buggy and that didn't make sense in their context. They meant a shopping cart for those that don't know. That's one of the only local word that I don't like, and it's really hit or miss if people say the word.

I'm from Indiana originally, and it was like nails on a chalkboard when someone would add an R to wash (warsh, Warshington). UGH!

I'm from Warshington, Missourah. It's exit 251 off I-farty-far.

Ugghh

I can't help but say y'all!!! It's how I was taught to say it and I just love it. I even type it!

Here in Texas people love to say that they're "fixin'" to do something. It means, "about to..."

Example: I'm fixin' to go to the store.

Ugh!

This. It makes me crazy. Also, the Northern Californians that say "hella", as in, "That's hella cool". Yuck.

Saying that you are "doing good" instead of "Doing well." This is a battle I will never win. Tonight our server asked us four times, ""You guys doing good?" I wanted to scream.

I hate when people use "wicked". I don't hear a lot of people say it, but there are some people I know that say it and it comes across like they say it because they think they are supposed to just because they live in the Boston area.

I am also kind of tired of people saying "Boston Strong". People have said it so much that it just seems like it doesn't really mean anything and that it has just become a gimmick.

It might be across the country, but I am really tired of hearing the word "ratchet".

I think it's across the country. All it is is a mispronunciation of "wretched". Just like "ho" is a mispronunciation of another word that made its way into the lexicon. It's ridiculous hearing all these white-bread suburban kids walking around saying "Tiffany is so ratchet" when they don't even know what they're saying. I told my dd what ho meant and she was flabbergasted. She knew both words, but didn't actually know they were the same word.
