Local Favorites... What ones could you care less about?

Just curious... where is this?

Not sure if anyone answered this...Lady and Sons (Paula Deen's restaurant) is in Savannah, Georgia. I've been wanting to go there, I know it's a tourist trap...but...I'm a tourist!! :)

I live in a very touristy area in the mountains of New Hampshire.

I don't ski even though my daughter works at a ski area and gets passes
I hate Storyland and only go because I have to when company comes
I've never been rafting or kayaking on the Saco
I think the Conway Scenic Railroad is overrated
I think the Fryeburg Fair is overrated and too crowded to enjoy
I don't snowmobile

I'm from the Lake Sunapee area of NH and we spent a week in Northern NH last summer. We stayed in Franconia.

Polly's Pancake Parlor (Sugar Hill)
Woodstock Inn & Station Restaurant
Emporium Candy Shoppe
The kids played in the river behind the Candy Shoppe.
Hobo Hills Adventure Golf
The Hobo Train ride with lunch
We hiked the Flume and Lost River Gorge. The kids loved the caves!

DH wanted to get away without having to go too far. I made the best of the hiking and bugs and the kids seemed to enjoy it.

I live near a popular lake. I don't go boating, fishing, wave runner riding, etc. I couldn't tell you the last time I "went to the lake". I don't enjoy swimming in a lake.

Reminds me of when we went to Six Flags over Atlanta a few years back, we were having a conversation at the Waffle House (or is it a Huddle House?) that is nearby. The waitress said that she hadn't been to Six Flags in 10 years. I thought that was odd then, but after realizing that we don't go hang out on the popular lake in our area, maybe it isn't so odd...

I'm from Iowa too and there isn't jack to do here. OOOH Adventureland.
BOOOORRRRIIINGGG.
State Fair? Couldn't care less. Mississippi River Museum? Won't even spend the $45 on the tickets.

Iowa football games are GREAT to go to, but it's not cheap. Tailgating does me just fine.

We have cornfields. Period. I know it's a great place to raise kids, but as far as "entertainment" goes, we really lack in it...especially for kids.

 :scared1: Blasphemy!! Although now that the bingo hall burned down, it's even more depressing than it already was.

Hmm, Iowa.. let's see.

-Never been on a farm.
-Never gone detasseling - seriously, I was a lazy kid, and that is WAY too much work. :lmao:
-Never been to the Iowa State Fair -- although I AM hoping to go this summer to catch a few of the concerts.
-Never gone to Kalona to visit the Amish community -- I've driven through, just have never stopped.
-Never gone morel hunting -- again, the whole laziness thing. I just buy a bunch at Houby Days in Czech Village. :thumbsup2
-Never done RAGBRAI, for those outside of Iowa, it's riding your bike from the western border of Iowa (Missouri River) to the eastern border (Mississippi River).
-Never gone to see the bridges of Madison county.

I live near Atlanta and rarely visit any of the tourist sites. The Atlanta Zoo leaves a lot to be desired. The olympic areas are cool once, as is the World of Coke Museum and the Georgia Aquarium. One tourist site i do like is Stone Mountain.

Flume and Lost River are nice if you can stand the bugs and people. Better out of tourist season. I'll have to add playing in the river to the list of things I don't do. I live on the Rocky Branch river. We take kids there to play in the water while we sit on a rock in the sun. Another overrated thing to do! Our rivers are cold.

I've done pretty much all the touristy stuff around here. Its mainly all outdoors and gorgeous so I could never resist.

The one thing though I haven't done is gone to all these fancy golf courses that people come and play from around the world. I don't care about playing golf!!

Charlotte, NC:

-NASCAR racing. The Lowe's Motor Speedway is here, and I avoid the area like the plague on race weekends. I don't get NASCAR and don't like all the traffic caused by the track.
-The NC mountains and skiing. I am not a nature gal, so I couldn't care less. The fall leaves are pretty, though.
-The Outer Banks and NC beaches. I don't like Atlantic beaches- I'd rather go to the Gulf Coast FL beaches any day.
-Carowinds. A Six Flags-type local amusement park. Everyone here gets season passes. We have been a few times, and we don't like it.
-The Carolina Panthers or Charlotte Bobcats. I am not a pro sports fan.

The one very iconic N Carolina thing I absolutely love- pulled pork barbecue with Carolina style vinegar-based sauce and slaw on the bun. Yum!!!

I grew up in Brooklyn and worked my entire working life in NYC and never had any interest in any tourist trap. Now that I'm gone I'd LOVE to go back and see them!!

Here in Atlanta I've never been to the Aquarium... :confused3 don't GET it!

Oh no! I love the Georgia Aquarium! Select your time and day carefully and it can be a very relaxing experience. We loved the Titanic exhibit. Just don't go if there is a GA Tech home football game that evening! Hugs!

I live not far from the Augusta National and rarely attend the Masters.

I live right outside of Charlotte and I agree with a couple of these--

Never been to a NASCAR race and have no desire to go

Don't really care about the Bobcats. I was a fan of the Hornets when they were here but what happened with them just soured me on the whole thing

I live about 2 mi from Carowinds and haven't been in several years. DD usually gets a season pass only because the girl she watches during the summer wants to do sometimes.

I live in Baton Rouge, LA. It's about an hour north of New Orleans.

- I've never been to Emeril Lagasse's restaurant.
- I have never been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans and I definitely do NOT want to. Ugh.

Then you will LOVE this, if you've never seen/heard it before: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ubTQfr_tyY

:)

That is indeed awesome! I'm a transplanted NC'er now in NYC and the last time I was in NC, I dragged my Yankee DH off to Allen & Son on our last day only to find it wasn't open for dinner that night. I was so bummed that I couldn't get my vinegar-based barbecue. I'm going down in a few weeks and have instructed my sister to call in advance for hours this time! (And, she used to live in Memphis, so we know all about the rubs too!)

Oh, and being a NYer, you will never, ever catch me anywhere near Times Square unless I have a broadway ticket and I definitely would never, ever go near there on New Year's!

The State Fair and The Balloon Fiesta. To say one doesn't like them is blasphemy in Albuquerque.

Let's not forget some of our other great sites.
Roswell UFO museum. Went once, wasn't that impressed.
Santa Fe Fiestas, mainly Zozobra. It's become too much of a theatrical show rather than a yearly cultural custom.
Also in Santa Fe, Indian Market. Too many people and the merchandise they sell is too over-priced. I can wait until after Indian Market and get the same things much cheaper.
Carlsbad Caverns. Never been there, really doesn't interest me.
We also have several mountain ranges with ski resorts. Never been skiing.

Born and raised in NY--no I have NEVER been to the top of the Empire State Bldg or the Statue of Liberty

Now near Mickey Mouse I have NO desire....EVER to go in those air boat thingies and put myself anywhere near the gators :scared1: I will watch them on Animal Planet thank you very much, I have no desire to go to Universal or CityWalk or some upside down house (Ripleys)

I've lived in Central California for 25 years and I've been to Yosemite National Park one time and Sequoia National Park one time (both are within an hour's drive). I'm not an outdoor type of person.

We've lived 20 minutes from Cedar Point for five years now and still haven't been. Locals are shocked and amazed. :D

.

I've only been to Cedar Point once, and I wasn't impressed.

.

So, how about you?

Colonial Williamsburg. While I do enjoy going there to walk around and do think it's educational I think a lot of people believe they're walking around the original buildings and that it looked like that in Colonial times (as far as all of the pretty landscaping). Most of the buildings were built in the last 100 years (granted they were built using original blueprints) and some were just restored.

I used to live in NJ now I live in Nm for the past 5 yrs.

I have never been to the Balloon Fiesta
went to santa Fe once The city just wasnt us
Have never visited roswell or Carlsbad Caverns
I am not a fan of red or green chili
