local Disney store closing

I just found out our local Disney Store is closing in mid-January! I'm so bummed, and I knew you all would understand! Apparently, their mall lease was up and they lost it to a fashion retailer who the mall preferred for the space and who was willing to pay a giant increase in rent over what the Disney Store was paying. We will still have our outlet store in our outlet mall about 20 minutes from the retail store,but it is an outdoor mall ( the stores face in, so there is no close to door parking), so visits there can be impacted by the weather and they do not have all the same merchandise (for example in addition to differences in regular stock they never have the limited edition dolls and some of the other more upscale things). DD is devastated because that is her main hang out with her Grandma, and has been since she was 2. Unfortunately, apparently she found out when an employee told her when she was in the store...which I am feeling sorry for that poor employee who clearly did not know the explosion such news was going to create. Apparently, she had a total meltdown in the store and has been crying on and off in the hours since. (Yes , I know, I have a drama queen. Can't wait till she's a teen.) I think I will leave her at Grandma's tonight! Honestly, she is almost 9, so she is growing out of a lot of the stuff in the store anyway. It is just where she and her Grandma go every time she spends the night up there. All the employees know her by name. This is a budget post because that store leaving is likely going to save both her Grandma and I quite a bit of money...but it is still a sad budget post!

Yep- I left her at Grandma's. She called this morning and the first thing she said was that it was not going to be as fun to spend the night at Grandma's after January 18. The closest non-outlet Disney Stores are now going to be about 2 hours east or 2 1/2 hours south from us. The sad thing is that all the employees are losing their jobs. The outlet does not have openings right now for any of them to move over. I think DD is as disappointed that her "friends" are losing their jobs as she is that the store is closing.

I'm sure that must be it. Maybe the mall manager was so mad about FP+ that he kicked the disney store out!

I understand your sorrow! Felt the same way when ours closed. The disneystore online is just not the same!

I wish I had gotten the alert to look at this thread again. I didn't, and we went to the Disney store - our local one - Quail Springs Mall in OKC. Yup, this store.

Gone.

Not only did we walk up, but a family with about 6 kids (eek!) walked up, with two of the little ones being completely upset. Others walked by as well trying to figure out what was up.

We still have the shop at the Outlets, but it stinks that the store is gone. We loved it.
