This thread keeps bringing back images from the movie A Time to Kill with Samuel Jackson. That WAS premeditated and we all felt he did right in the end. At most what the guy in this story did was manslaughter but definately not murder (unless premediatation could be proven).

Butler - for what it's worth, I tend to agree with you. There is a reason we are not allowed to take the law into our own hands.

On the other hand, temporary insanity is a valid defense to murder, and the father in this case obviously made a good case for it, and the jury agreed.

But let's not forget, if we start cheering for this type of reaction, we go down a slippery slope. Can you kill someone because they took your parking spot?

What if your 18 year old son is beaten to death when caught fooling around with a 12 year old? Of course, she looked 15 and said she was 16.

A father could gin up some moral outrage and club him to death. Even if he's not beaten to death, he'll get to register as a sexual predator for the rest of his life.

But...why oh why protect this man that was killed...

The father walked in and saw his worse nightmare and went ballistic protecting his poor baby from what has to be the most horrifing thing to happen to your child and as a parent, see it commited apon your child.

he did not think of it..he did not plan it....he didnt sit down and constuct a plan, or have fantasies of killing a man...

But I bet that perv did sit there...and think, wish, dream and fantisize about a little girl...waited for the perfect moment and then without regard....victomized her against her wishes and refused to stop against her assumed pleas. Stealing from her free will, her sense of control, her idenity, her innocence,her trust in the world, her childhood and changing her life forever more with the scars of molestation and / or rape.

If I caught someone messing with my little girl, you can label me a murderer all you want, but that's one less pedophile out there to hurt other children.

Good for the court--although rather than death, castration and the forcible removal of the perps hands and tongue would be a better choice.

I seriously believe that it should be legal to kill someone if you catch them in the act of assaulting your child. In fact, it should be legal for a child who has been assaulted to kill their abuser, even if it's years after the fact. I'm sure my POV surprises no one on these boards but I have very strong feelings about it. In fact, I'm keeping my gun ready for the day such a law passes.
