We have reservations at Teppan Edo for dinner. This is our first time on the regular dining plan, in the past we always purchased the qs. My question is that my 10y.o. son is dying to try lobster. I see that lobster is an "add on" on the dinner menu, but is less expensive than an entree. Has anyone ever tried to substitute a less expensive add on for an entree? Is there anywhere else (1 credit) you know of that has lobster?

Columbia House in MK has a very good lobster roll ( at least they did last year in September). It was a QS credit . Terpenoids Edo is aTS credit. Good luck --- enjoy! :flower1:

I don't think they'll allow any substitutions on the entree. The lobster (salad) roll at CHH is more like mayo soup with lobster bits on a hot dog bun. It's pretty gross and not really a good introduction to lobster. Hollywood & Vine has lobster mac & cheese... also not ideal, but at least it's a good value but for 1 TS, especially if you get the Fantasmic package.

There's also Paddlefish and the Boathouse, but both of those are 2 TS.

I agree with your assessment of the lobster roll a CHH - shouldn't be allowed to give it such a name!! :(

Not sure how it is prepared at Teppan Edo, but if it is your son's first time trying lobster I would suggest going to Grand Floridian Cafe for breakfast or lunch and getting the butter poached lobster enhancement. It is 2 oz of butter poached lobster for $11. A lot more reasonable than the $28 at Teppan Edo. It was delicious when we had it during our last trip--as was the rest of our breakfast there. Hope he enjoys the lobster wherever he ends up trying it!

Don't overlook Paddlefish in Disney Springs, as suggested previously. The seafood there has been consistently good over the years, and the lobster is fresh, big, and a nice presentation.

You will have to pay for the lobster out of pocket. On any table service menu the items in the section called Enhancements, Add ons, Side Dishes or Accompaniments are not included in the dining plan nor can you substitute them for the entree component of the dining credit. They can only be purchased out of pocket. Third party restaurants are reimbursed by Disney according to the rules of the dining plan so even though the lobster is less than some of the entrees they will not substitute because Disney won't reimburse them for the lobster.

I'm a fan of the lobster at Narcoossee's, but that's just because I haven't tried Paddlefish or Boathouse yet.

I will say, if your son is looking to TRY lobster, maybe start with it as an enhancement. Ordering a $60 lobster and having him not like it is a nightmare scenario.

Fantastic suggestions, thanks you all! We are staying at the Poly, so maybe a stroll over to GF for breakfast and have him try it there. I have heard great things about Paddlefish, but totally forgot about the place. I really appreciate your input!

I don't know anywhere at Disney but you go to The Boathouse at Disney springs and you can get every kind of Lobster you want! I had split roasted lobster, lobster cocktail, lobster mac and cheese and the list goes on! hope you son gets to have some Lobster...it's my favorite!

Paddlefish is a signature restaurant, so 2 credits for whatever you get there, meaning maybe not the best place to experiment. If he wants to try lobster I agree with the Grand Floridian recommendation for breakfast. We like Teppan Edo, and if you want to shell out the extra $30 or so for a lobster tail that might be a good place for him to try it because it is a fun restaurant.
