LLBean Coat size for kids-

I am posting this here in the off chance someone might know about this...

DS is 7, wears a size 8. I want to order the LLBean warm-up parka, but don't know whether to order the 8 or the 10/12. I usually order coats on size up, but a 10/12 sounds huge for my 1st grade 7 year old.

Anyone have any insight as to whether the coats run big or small or if a 10/12 is huge?

I haven't ordered with them but with Lands End. When I called and told them my problem, the lady put me on hold and called one of the buyers (?). They measured the coat on the inside and the length.

They then told me. They advised me to get the bigger one even though the smaller would fit because if DD's wore a thicker sweater it would be too tight/uncomfortable. I did have to roll up the sleeve one turn but you really couldn't tell due to the style.

Try going to sears if they have their winter stuff out in your area akd try them on. Then call LLBean and tell them "In Lands End coats she wears size X, what size is comparable to yours?"

The 10/12 is much bigger than the 8. I am having a problem fitting DS because his size 8 parka form LLBean barely fits (and it's August) but the next size, the 10/12 is a big jump- a much greater diffference than the difference between a 7 and an 8. Good luck! I hate dealing with returns but you could always order it and send it back if it doesn't fit.

I think LL Bean does run a little smaller and tighter compared to say Gap Kids. For my son, I ordered size XXS (4) when he was 3, and it was a little tight. When he was 4, I ordered size XS (6) and he wore it for 2 winters. At the end of the second winter, it looked a little short on him. By comparison, at the time, he was wearing Gap Kids size XS(4). Ask the rep when you call; they are very good about steering you to the right size.
