Last xmas I bought my 7yo daughter an $80 LL Bean jacket. For me thats a lot to spend on a jacket. I heard their jackets were sturdy and would last a long time. So I spent the money, but bought it big.

The jacket still fits this year, like I thought it would. But the zipper doesn't zip right. The bottom parts wont fit completely into each other and come apart seperating at the bottom. We all know how much of a pain that is!!! Not to mention taht she can't zip it herself, it's too hard. I don't expect her teachers at school to do it for her in 3rd grade, lol.

So, I was thinking of calling the store in the morning( it was purchased at a store location, not the internet).

Should i bother? Do you think they will do anything for me? Personally i think an $80 jacket should last more than 3-4 months. Right?

Oh and the jacket is in perfect condition otherwise. So it is a good jacket, still looks brand new.

Absolutely. Give them a call (I'd call the # instead of taking it into the store). Last year for Christmas I purchased an LCD alarm clock for my DH. It stopped working a few months ago, he called LL Bean and they sent him a new one no questions asked. We received a refund (because they charged us for the new one initially) as soon as they had the broken one in hand. They stand by their products. I've done this with backpacks, briefcases and other items purchased from them. I love LL Bean.

Thank you. i thought they would. We also love the Bean, and own many of their items. to be honest, i've never brought something back and asked that the store do something for me. I always just chaulk it up to i purchased a bad item, but this time we love the coat. And I spent a ton of money on it!!

I agree with the above poster, they absolutely will either replace the zipper or give you a brand new coat. It will be your choice. I've returned multiple items over the years with never a problem. Lands End is also wonderful about this.

Yes they will. Someone we know had two backpacks have stuck zippers. They sent brand new bookbags brand new each time. They guarantee their stuff.

I love LL Bean too. Their customer service is great. It never hurts to try... I say give them a call... I'm sure they will do something for you.

WOW, I don't usually purchase from them but will consider it now.

Good Luck!

Just wnat to point out again that it is last years jacket....so the consensus is it doesn't matter how old the jaclet is?

I just want to make sure before I call. I hate complaining, and i am working, in my head, a way to call and sound like I am demanding something from them, kwim?

It doesn't matter that it's from last year. You bought it to fit for two years and it is perfectly reasonable to expect the zipper will work for the life of the coat. Bean will make it right if you give them a chance.

It doesn't matter that it's last year's coat. They should still be willing to do something for you. They stand by their products, which is why I never mind paying a little more for them.

I love LL Bean, they definitely stand by their stuff. It doesn't matter if the coat is 1 yr they will make it right for you:thumbsup2
lands end is great too, i bought a bathing suit and returned it the following year because the color got all blotchy and weird looking, it cost the better part of $100 so I expected to get at least 2 summers out of it, they sent me a gift card for the amount I paid for the suit and I got a new one.

Beans has a lifetime gurarantee on their products. yOu will return it to them, they will either fix it or replace it if they can't fix it, for free.

As others said, they will replace it. They truly do back their stuff 100%.

Just FYI though, they will likely not fix it, but rather give you a credit of $ paid to use for a new one. I haven't paid much attention to this year's jackets. Usually, though, they have the same styles (eg fit, weight) year to year but change the color patterning. They may have the older one in the warehouse or an outlet, but likely you'll have to pick out a new one.

Michelle< hop, skip and a jump from Beans :)

Well here's my story. DH had a pair of slippers from a year or so ago. One of them got a hole in the sole by his big toe. Today we took them back(we live by a store) he found a similar pair that he liked better and returned the worn ones. The new pair were cheaper then the ones we had(no receipt just compared to the same style in store) so he got a $5 credit! You will have no problem! :goodvibes

Had the same problem last year with 2 winter coats that were purchased the year before. I took them to the store and they replaced both with new ones even though the patterns had changed and the new ones were a few dollars more.

No necessarily. They ARe a great compnay, and typically stand behind their products, but there are many things they no longer guarantee for life as the privilege has been abused. IN this case though, I am SURE they will replace the zipper--no problem.

This is not a true statement. My mother works for Beans and they take anything back, no matter the excuse...and she's heard some real doozies !:rolleyes1

OP - you won't have any trouble returning the coat.

Okay, But when I called about an item recently their rep on the ohone said there is not a lifetime warranty on the backpacks anymore so the staff should get their stories straight
