Liz's Trip pre report

Hi all

Thought I would do a report on this trip since it includes some different aspects everyone might be interested in (if not nothing to see here...move on) and also to keep at home and online friends up to date on what is going on.

Sorry for the background info but it is sort of needed.

Starting out this trip is
Liz (turning 52 on Sunday) and daughter Chloe (21)

Chloe grew up visiting Disney due to her mom's obsession to Disney (poor thing) and started college at the local community college thinking she wanted to be a teacher. She knew from the time she was about 14 she wanted to do the Disney College Program and planned it for the fall semester of her what should be her junior year. That turned out to be Fall 2007. Sometime prior to that I was talking to her about career choices and mentioned Hospitality Management. She had not realized there was a four year degree in that but once she did she wanted to pursue that.

We mostly checked online and found many Hospitality schools that specialized in Culinary but Chloe was most interested in hotels. Along in our research we discovered that the University of Central FL had a program and more specifically a campus devoted to only Hospitality Management. We visited when we came for the Fall 2007 College Program. I wrote a report about that last year so I don't want to repeat but we found the school and its programs to be a perfect match for Chloe. The campus is beyond gorgeous located on Universal Blvd (UCF Rosen College of Hospitality) and adjacent to the Rosen Shingle Creek property. The campus is non smoking and wireless (great combo) and has state of the art classrooms (including the Busch Wine and Beer tasting laboratory that is unlike anything I have ever seen). Other hospitality tie ins include the Darden Auditiorium and the Disney Dining Room. Ok enough about that.

Chloe went on to the CP and was in Attractions working at Mission Space and loving it. She also took Hospitality Management through the College Program and was doing a Management Internship for credit through her college. After a couple of months a friend and I went to visit and found she had settled into life in Orlando and working beautifully and she wanted to extend. She did and decided to change attractions (for more experience) and she moved on to It's Tough to Be A Bug. She loved it there too and had another good experience. Oh and realized she much preferred working in the parks than dealing with hotel issues so is looking at the Theme Park and Attractions course of work.

Came home for the summer and had some classes to take to be able to go to UCF as a transfer. She did great in two and not so great in one (Statistics) but she went ahead and sent her transcripts (she had applied earlier). Honestly we didn't know what to think. Going across states with classes we were having trouble telling if she would meet their requirements. She finished school in July, it took about a week for the transcripts to get to UCF (just in time for a weekend) and by Monday night of the next week we were both tired of wondering. She told me she just wanted to know but wanted to be prepared if she wasn't going to FL so we stayed up late and signed her up for what we thought she would need class wise.

Tuesday morning her status had changed to "further review" We went out for ice cream (with two kids I care for). Now to complicate things the mom of the kids is Joanna -- who we often travel to Disney with and who was leaving for FL on Friday. Our plan was to go with them IF Chloe didn't make it into UCF, and IF she did to come down a few days later. Joanna is like a sister to Chloe and we sat having ice cream talking about how Joanna and Chloe would visit admissions and see what she needed to do etc...got back home...checked her admission page and she was ACCEPTED!

Phew accepted on the 5th and classes start the 25th so we were crazed with activity. The very next day Chloe became sick (flu or strep -- hard to tell) but that worked out ok cause her pediatrician would go ahead and see her while she filled out the immunization form. Chloe spent most of the weekend sick. Friday Joanna and her kids left for FL so I spent the day in front of the computer doing what I could (mostly printing off piles of materials). Long story short somewhere over the past week we (or some combination of we) have gotten transcripts, birth certificates, figured out how to change her insurance and register a car in FL, register for orientation and housing ... read throw money in numerous directions.

We are leaving Tuesday so we can have a little time with Joanna in FL, Chloe is going to check into working part time at Disney, have to meet with the insurance guy, park time, etc.

So if you haven't dozed off yet there is Disney time ahead...with Joanna, just us, we also want to spend some time at Comedy Warehouse :( and do a variety of things.

I will try and update semi regularly.

Leaving Tuesday ...staying somewhere in GA that night ...and then on to Disney on Wed!

Liz
