Today i had a lactose test. You drink this glass of lactose sugar dissolved in water and then wait and breathe into this thing .... every half hour .... like 4 times .... which ended up being four hours!! :headache: Anyways....i ended up being highly positive with lactose intolerance. (( For anyone who doesn't know....Lactose Intolerance is the inability for your stomach to digest lactose sugars...the main sugar in milk.)) So i was wondering...How do you deal with it?? I am completely lactose-free for the next 8 weeks but maybe after that i can eat/drink things with lactose....we don't know yet.
Thankks...

Well, I don't know about lactose intolerance, but my cousin is severely allergic to dairy (as well as peanuts and formerlly eggs and bananas). You just avoid it. Learn what terms are used for milk on nutrition labels and read the ingredients to know if it's safe. Do online research for recipes, and maybe find a support group. And if you just don't know where to start, talk to a nutritionist. They'll help you get your 5 food groups despite avoiding lactose.

my cousins take pills for it. and then they can have like ice cream and stuff. but they also make like lactade and stuff with out the sugar that makes you sick.

WOAH
creepy
I was gonna start a thread on this!

:o
Im lactose intolerant...and proud.

I love it (sometimes i hate it) but its amazing because when i have lactaid milk (mmm) its creamier and sweeter then regular milk (thats what I think). Taking pills before every meal is annoying..and.... its really embarassing when my friends ask what pull im taking.

BUT

its better then the gassy feeling i would get with dairy products, it doesnt help completely for me..but it helps 70 percent and thats a lot (compared to how i was)

I would....not do well if I was lactose intolerant.
I love everything dairy.
EVERYTHING.

Is cheese in the mix here too?
Im sorry, i just can't survive without the wonder of cheese. :lmao:

My dad got a slight case of that

He got over his in a while

I still remember the white long noodles that tasted like rice.. XD

Yup

All dairy.

Ive had it my entire life..and i LOVE cheese..but...if i eat it without my pills.. I feel..terrible.

The pills are sometimes hit or miss. They can make it so nothing happens, or they do nothing at all.

For me, I can have dairy, but I have extreme stomach issues as a result.

I have two choices, not have dairy or suck it up.

You will learn your limits and what you can tolerate.

For a second I thought it said LACOSTE Intolerance. LOL. Imagine not being able to wear Very Expensive clothing. lol. NAyway that stinks

I was mistaken lactoste intolerant for one year. I took the pills and drank lactaid milk, which I agree with you Squeakers, is great (the chocolate only, the regular is so-so.) It is very expensive though its like 5-7$ for a carton. There is a thing called Benefiber which I reccomend not only people with stomach issues but for regular people its really good for your health and it tastes good. Hope you do well.

Hm...

Did you know that EVERYONE is allergic to milk (to an extent. some are worse then others)

I read that in a mag. somewhere...

Ugh.
I hate milk. I don't like to drink it at all.
But I would probably not last long either without dairy products.
I put cheese on like everything.

Thankss.. :-) yeahh so i have been lactose intolerant for 2 days now and i'm doing pretty goodd. I am starting to feel better and my stomach is coming back to its normal size. But i do miss the milk and ice cream portion of this, although i'd give it up to feel better.
I am on an 8 week lactose free diet. After that i can start introducing the foods with the pills and lactose free stuff but they said there will be a slim chance that i will be able to drink the lactaid milk or use the lactose pill since i have such a high intolerance to it. Thanks again for your insight...

I'm lactose intolerant. :confused3 It isn't that big of a deal. If I take my lactose pills every day then I can have whatever. If I don't take the pills, my throat closes up.

I also have lactose intolerance and I agree that it sometimes is a bother, but as long as I keep a few loctose intolerance pills on me, then I can eat/drink any type of dairy. They are really good to have. You can get them at almost any drug store, they are a little expensive but totally worth it!

well, there are a wide variety of lactose free "dairy" products, although how they taste, I don't know:confused3
