So we are trying to decide on a reception site for probably 50-100 people and we are leaning towards Living Seas. We love the location, but my only concern is that it won't be "formal" or "elegant" enough. We plan on doing dinner, I will be in a ballgown, and would really like an elegant atmosphere, but I don't want to be in a ballroom. Has anyone done up the Living Seas with formal elements? Any pictures to share? I'm not looking to have any sort of under the sea or beach theme at all, but I think the aquarium can be worked into a formal theme some how?

I have seen some images of someone that had the "traditional" 8-10 top tables and they were in the lower area to add more seating to the existing (4-6 person?) tables on the upper section. I didn't see it decorated...but I am hoping that we can add some uplighting to make it feel more 'reception'-like. I have looked all through the boards for images of other girls weddings in LSS, and it seems very hard to come across some pics of it decorated. It seems most brides that use that space just use it's natural beauty....personally I would like to add some cool uplighting! The table covers that are standard with the room are navy with a green overlay (I believe). So depending on your colors you may want to rent different ones or I think there was an option of white at no additional charge (maybe?). You could do napkins in your color or do a centerpiece that adds your color...?:hippie:

I am a non-ballroom girl too, but we ARE doing the under the sea vibe, so my ideas won't help :( heheh

i know what you mean!

I think we will be having our reception in the Living Seas, but it wasnt really want I wanted (green and blue table cloths). So different colour scheames would be really good to see

We are doing the Living seas Salon and I love the location but my bride to be was trying to figure out better lighting so were goin to work with our planner on that.

From the pictures I've seen it looks really interesting and very different from a ballroom. You can make the room as formal/elegant as you want by the decor and set up. Disney can make it look like a black tie affair if that's what you want.

I had my reception at Ariels and my lunch reception was very casual and laid back, but a previous wedding i've seen at the same location was very elegant and formal. It's all in how you set it up.
