Can anyone tell me more about the Living Seas @ Epcot? It's one of the attractions that our family has not done yet and I really want to try next trip. Does it have any kind of ride vehicles or is it more like other aquariums that you tour on foot (like the National Aquarium in Baltimore)?

As we speak, we're not quite SURE.

The LS originally had a short "ride" called Seacabs that took you through part of the underwater (aquarium) viewing area.
Then a few years after opening date, they closed the Seacabs "ride".

Right NOW, LS is in "half-rehab" mode. (Part of the attraction is open, the other part is being rebuilt behind temporary walls).

One of the persistent rumors is that the Seacabs will be running again after the work is done (later this year).

BUT BUT BUT...

Right NOW you CAN visit (in addition to a very fine underwater aquarium environment) one of the hottest (and "funnest") new attractions at Epcot (and its not a hang-glider simulator).

Its "Turtle Talk with Crush".

Crush is one of the stars of "Finding Nemo" (the "Surfer Dude" sea turtle character.)

I won't fully describe this interactive theater attraction except to say that its AMAZING, SURPRISING and HILARIOUS for guests from 4 yrs. to 94 yrs.

If you want more info, do a SEARCH here and on Google for "Turtle Talk" and read the hundreds of reviews and reactions...

it "So ROCKS, DUDE!"

The LS, to me, is like a mini aquarium with different ocean life exhibits and and Turtle Talk! Its a great place!!

Not exactly.
The ride was called the Caribbean Coral Reef Ride and it was part of the Living Seas from its opening in 1986 until late 2001.

OK, call it what you will.
The "Ride" in question was made on vehicles called "Seacabs".

At any rate, we still don't know if the "ride" is coming back...
Or what they will NAME it, if it does.

Wow, that was splitting hairs...

Don't forget the "hydrolators"...that was sort of ride-ish. I always loved how you ride them for miles to the ocean floor and then see sunlight poking through the bottom of the emergency exit doors.

No, no, no.

The "Splitting Hairs" attraction was in Communicore EAST back in 1987-89 (October of '89).

It was an industrial robot that wielded a Guinsu knife and would slice-in-two (the LONG way) a single strand of hair provided by a lucky volunteer.
(Gotta love those industrial robots!)

Problems arose after the corporate sponsor, Campbell's Soup, decided that too many folks thought the mixing of "hair" and "soup" was unappetizing.
So Frigidaire/GM picked up the attraction, added the element of FREEZING and the famous new attraction: "Ice Station HAIR" was born (with addition of the "Hairy Guy" sitting in ice.)

GM then thought that it would change its image and drop "World of Motion" and the "Splitting Hairs/Ice Station Hair" attraction in favor of a NEW ride that would be WIDELY KNOWN for its RELIABILITY... "Test Track".

So, Coca-Cola took over "Ice Station Hair" (changed the name to "Ice Station Cool") but left the HAIRY GUY.

This attraction has been renovated (the Hairy Guy is vanquished) and its now called "Club Cool", but that's really just "splitting hairs."

;)

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I remember Ginsu-Bot! After they shut down the Communicore attraction he did a brief stint in Horizons as the hair cutting robot of the future. They've since moved him over to the Main St. Barbershop.

Yup.

The 'bot is now just relegated to cutting out the "Mickey confetti" that they put in kids' hair at the barbershop...

Sad, but true.
