Living a double life?

I know I don't have the energy it takes to keep up all of those kinds of lies!!
My sister, however, does seem to and has for years. The truth catches up to her and she usually moves or if the town is big enough, she'll just start a new life in that town.
I feel very sorry for everyone involved in that case...it seems as if Lori Hacking's husband has some serious mental issues and she paid the ultimate price for them. Those poor parents!
I just hope they get some peace soon by finding her and knowing what really happened to her. While that certainly won't heal the pain, I am sure it has to be better than just being left to wonder.

I agree -- I always say to DH that the nice quiet guys get the Witchy loud mouth abusive wives. Well not always. Esme - I dated a guy for 2 1/2 years until I saw his true, true colors. I had clues too but didn't want to see them. My DH and I have been married for 20 years, he is a very, very private type of person and rarely talks about work. He just doesn't like to mix work and home life. I can tell he gets annoyed at me because I talk about work constantly at the dinner table. Hey I work with 7th graders and they are very entertaining!

I think that the only way it could happen is if the person (spouse, partner, etc...) is in total denial. I think that deep down the person really DOES know but chooses to accept it.

My theory: for people who veer toward the more sociopathic end of the spectrum ... not full-blown sociopaths, usually, but people who live decent lives without ever feeling remorse or empathy the way that you or I might ... it's fairly easy to live a double life. It's easy for them to compartmentalize emotions, to flip from one thing to something else quickly and without baggage.
