We got in yesterday!!! At the airport, prior to boarding for MCO we got a text message from Owner's Locker advising us that our new locker had just been dropped off at SSR. What a great service they provide.
Upon arrival at MCO, we were greeted with a really long line at the Magical Express check-in. However to their credit, we were through the line in less than 20 minutes and went directly to our awaiting bus. Our bus was scheduled for stops at OKW,SSR,POFQ and POR in that order. Quick transit. The check-in at SSR was flawless-our room was available already, (at 2:00). As per our request, we were at Grandstand right next to the bus stop. We have a golf course view on the second floor. They again advised us that our Owner's Locker was here and that bell services would assist us in getting the locker and ourselves to our room.
The room is great; a one bedroom which is very clean. I only had one issue; that of the free high speed internet. I still had to "sign-up" for the $9.95 per day service as in the past. However the front desk told me that the charge is automatically removed for DVC members.
By the way, I timed the walk from our building to the Carriage House- it's only five minutes.
Our first adventure was to DTD to visit guest relations so we could pick up our AP's and purchase a DDE or as it's now known, Tables In Wonderland card. We arrived at the SSR Grandstand bus stop at 2:50 and the DTD bus arrived at 3:08.
While at guest relations, we also bought a gift card to use at the Food and Wine fest. I read somewhere on the DIS boards that this was an easy way to pay for things at the Food and Wine Fest booths.
We had a 8:15 reservation at Captain Jacks but asked Guest Relations to see if something earlier was available. It was, at 4:00-Perfect!
We had enjoyed a meal at Captain Jacks in July so we were really looking forward to it all. Unfortunately, the menu has changed a bit and we can say that we won't be going back-enough said there. Great service though.
Back at SSR, we decided to jump over to Epcot for the last few hours of F & W. The bus wasn't so timely this time around. We arrived at the bus stop at 6:52 and the bus finally came at 7:20. To be fair, one of the drivers explained that if the driver has to load and unload a lot of wheelchairs and carts, they get behind schedule. I can't complain about that; it's the right thing to do and Disney does it much better than a lot of places. One really strange thinge thing though. While we were waiting, three buses each came for AK, which actually closed at 7:00. Three came also for MK and one for HS, which was open late on Sunday. I can't explain the three for AK!!!
Anyway, once we got to Epcot, we got about half way to the World Showplace when it started to rain. No big deal but we were both tired anyway so we returned to SSR.
Once back, we drifted over to Artists Pallette to check out the grocery supplies for availability and cost. What we found was a limited supply of
items but everything that we wanted for breakfast (bagels etc) was there and at a fairly reasonable cost.
We are renting a car for a today to go shopping for our Owners Locker at Walmart. We are using Enterprise and they are only charging $32.00 for a compact. They will pick us up at SSR and drop us off tomorrow when we return the car. We don't normally rent when we are here but we wanted to stock up on wine etc for this and our next trip. Since we are going to Boma tonight for dinner tonight, the car will be convenient to get to AKV.
More to come.......

Wow glad to hear you are all having fun, wish we were their, enjoy your day at WDW.

Thanks for checking in:thumbsup2

Looking forward to your updatespopcorn::

Sounds like a great start....

I'll be in the world in 3 days.....I'm soooo excited.

How is the weather....is it very humid.

Anyone know if the thunderstorms they say everyday....is the normal passing ones like in the summer?
Thanks
kerri

How warm is the weather? A friend is going down on Sunday and wanted to know.

Thanks,

Sounds like you are having a great trip!

Is using the gift card for F&W purchases any easier than using your room charge?

As for the AK buses, they often put extra buses on a line when that park is closing as there is usually an increased demand at that time. So it was more for the returning AK park-goers, rather than for anyone wanting to go at that time.

Can you verify the expiration on your TIW card. We were told by one CM that when you buy at GR, the expiration is 12 months from the date of purchase. Others have reported 13 months, like when you pre-purchase from home.

Thanks :santa:

Thanks for the report and happy that you are having a great time. Have a wonderful dinner tonight at Boma. Yummy!! :goodvibes

The weather is in the upper 70's with low humidity. Very pleasant. No rain yet today.
My TIW card is good for 13 months- expires November 30, 2009.
I will continue to report on the buses. Today, since we picked up a car for one day, we won't be on the bus.
The Enterprise rental location is actually at the Marriot hotel. They were right on time picking us up. There was both a Walmart and a Publix close by so we got everything we needed for the Owner's Locker that we didn't bring with us.
We are going to go have a look at a SSR studio model, if they still have them. I'm afraid that since we are in a one bedroom this time that we are ruined forever about ever getting a studio vs a one bedroom. Add-on time already?:confused3
Anyone know what the current add-on incentive is for AKV?

I love these reports, brings back memories and past trips and gets me excited about the next one, if my wife ever gets done with nursing school.:cool1:

So.....on the way to AKL for our Boma experience, the daily rain started. Lucky for us, the TIW (or DDE if you will) provides free valet parking ( a $10.00 value) which worked out well with the rain. This was our first ever visit to AKL and both DW and I really liked the looks of the whole place.
As an interesting sidenote, apparently not all cast members were let in on the change of name for the DDE. Our server looked puzzled when I handed him the card. He asked "So what's this?" After I explained to him that it used to be called DDE, then he understood what to do with it.
Anyway, to Boma. We arrived at 4:30 for a 5:00 ADR. We were seated about 4:45. DW thought that the buffet was ok, especially the salmon. I just wasn't that impressed myself but I did really like the mushroom soup and the desserts. The highlight of the whole meal for me was the coffee which was the best I've had in a restaurant at Disney World. No Nescafe there!
After dinner we drove back to SSR and we enjoyed a few of the beverages that we picked up today. Outside it was lightly raining and thundering occasionally. We both decided that since we were fully equipped for the weather after our Walmart trip (Read as $3.90 for a Mickey Mouse poncho vs $7.00 at the Parks) we would jump on the bus for fireworks at MK. After only a 15 minute wait for the bus, we were on the way. The fireworks were great with no rain. The Dole Whip after was even better.
The bus ride home was uneventful. I believe that I would always prefer riding the bus even when I have a car available.
I can't stress enough how convenient Grandstand is for the bus. It's the first stop on the outbound and the inbound trips, meaning you seldom are without a seat.
Tomorrow we will return the car and then have an appointment with our guide who I contacted today. We want to have another look at the AKV models. She mentioned the new BLT models but neither DW nor myself are lovers of MK so an add-on at AKV makes more sense, especially with the incentives still in place.
I think that we will either eat in our room or at F & W the balance of our time here. I just have not been impressed with the food in the restaurants. I am wondering if the cost of food versus the cost of the dining plan has forced Disney to seek cost savings on the food itself.

Thanks for the update.

Interesting observation about the impact of the dining plan on the quality of the food. I wonder if part of the reason is the free dining that is going on right now:confused3

We have always enjoyed the signature dining restaurants but during our last trip in June we were not impressed with Jiko ... the service was horrible and the food was just okay.

Great report! I think you may have a point about why food quality has suffered recently. Maybe we can thank free dining for that.

As for the AK buses close to closing. All parks run lots of buses near closing to accommodate all the guests returning to their resorts. It just looks to those of us at the resorts that they are all going one way, when they are actually returning guests to the other stops.

I can't stress enough how convenient Grandstand is for the bus. It's the first stop on the outbound and the inbound trips, meaning you seldom are without a seat.

We were in the Grandstand on our last stay and it's location to everything was just a huge plus. Plus with the pool and pool bar, we didn't stray too far from the area when we were at the resort. :thumbsup2

Can't wait to go back to SSR at Christmas! It is so beautiful there!
Glad to hear you are enjoying your trip!

Yesterday-
The car return to Enterprise went smoothly. We were back at SSR about a hour after we left to return the car.
While waiting for our appointment with our guide, we explored the parts of SSR around Carriage House that we have not experienced yet. The pool at Carriage House is certainly larger than our Grandstand pool. It of course has the slide. It also was very much more crowded than the one over here.
We arrived early for our appointment but our guide was available so we started early.
My main purpose was to see what a SSR studio looked like but we also wanted a return look at the AKV models. Of course, the guides are almost obligated to show visitors the BLT models as well. I personally prefer the AKV setup but that's a personal preference plus we are not really MK people.
My purpose is seeing the SSR studio is that we have two studios reserved next March 15-19 using our original incentive points. We really like the convenience of the one bedroom unit that we have now. Since we would be points shy to swap over to two one bedroom units in March, I wanted to see if there were two one bedroom units available for our time period. I also wanted to see what the current AKV add-on incentives were.
The answer was, after our guide called her inside source, that there is still plenty of availability for our time period (SUPRISE!!!). The add-on incentive is still the same. $8.00 per point discount off the original $106.00 per point, matching incentive points AND since we are a December use year, 2008 points on 12/01/08 which are available for use after 5/1/2009.We left with a new DVC canvas bag and a reservation for two one bedroom units in March. I might add that things seem to move a lot smoother when the call is made to member services by a Quality Control representative who announces her status as such. The new points were of course instantly credited to our account.

Yesterday-continued
We headed over to Epcot for F & W, after waiting out the daily afternoon rain. The bus at Grandstand was here instantly.
Stopped by Soarin for a fast pass- 4 hours later or 8:15.
We started out at the Canada booth and started working our way around. The skys opened up but we were fully equipped for the rain so we just kept on eating and drinking our way around. My favorite stop was the Louisiana booth but the Germany booth was a close second. DW loved the crabcakes at Boston.
At 7:30 we met up with John from the Owner's Locker and several Owners Locker users like us at the French wine booth were John bough all the owners a glass of wine. We had a very interesting visit and learned some Owners Locker tips from the other owners.
We finally got to our Soarin FP time and enjoyed the ride again for probably the 50th time.We were on the bus back to SSR just past 9:00 after a VERY busy day.

The add-on incentive is still the same. $8.00 per point discount off the original $106.00 per point...
So the base price is now $106/pt? If so, that is a $2/pt increase. Previously it was $104/pt with a $8/pt incentive discount.
