Just a quick note during afternoon hotel break (full report later) but have a couple of bits that might be helpful to those planning trips soon:
First off, sorry for any typos on this--typing on my mini netbook (acer) and keyboard is just small enough to mess me up!

We’re here, staying at Port Orleans Fr Quarter - leaving Saturday 5/30. Most of our food has been wonderful (full dining report when I get back to a real computer!)

But a couple of notes for anyone coming soon…

First, don’t bother making an extra trip over to POFQ for beignets…sad to report they’re cutting corners on them…only sprinkle the top of them with powdered sugar so just don’t have that addictive quality anymore. Last year we ended up getting them every day--that good. This year, once was enough-didn’t even finish it. Without the sugar on both sides it’s just tasteless fried dough. Not good.

Second, and this is better news…anyone wondering if the fixed price meal with app/entrée/dessert is still available at Le Chefs de France for the basic dining plan, 1 TS credit per person: Yes! All 4 of us had it last night…full review later, but very good
(3 diff apps, 3 different entrée & 2 diff desserts so we had a lot of variety,)

Also saw Remy/Ratatouille & the Comic waiter…that was cute.

More later
Cathy

Thanks for the update but I am so sad about the beignets...have never tried them before and we are staying at the POFQ in just one week! Maybe I can request that they powder the heck out of them?

Is there more than one fixed price meal offered? I thought there was only one choice...

Thanks!

Hope you are having a great trip!

the beignets too. We'll be at POFQ next month. Oh well, at least we took the kids to Cafe du Monde this spring to try them.

Duh me, Nicki--that might work--maybe we'll give it one more try and see if they'll do it that way...they do cook them as they are ordered (they do not keep at all)

Melody, we're having a good time, despite the yuck weather. On the fixed price dinner menu, there were at least 3 choices for apps - for sure you could choose lobster bisque, french onion soup or a salad. On the entrees, again there were at least 3 choices - salmon, or beef ribs,or macaroni & cheese, and there was also a chicken choice. There may have been one more on there too. For dessert, the choices were the profitoroles(spelling?), or creme brulee or I think the other choice was a sorbet. Basically, it was the middle page of the menu - you chose 1 from each section on the fixed price page. You just couldn't substitute from the other pages of the menu (like the other pages had several additional apps, lots more entree choices, etc.)

Loving POFQm Hootch...and we will try Nicki's suggestion to get the beignets done correctly...

DON'T GIVE UP ON THE BEIGNETS!!!!! It's all in who is making them! We were at POFQ in April. The first time I ordered my beloved beignets....same problem....skimpy on the powdered sugar. I thought maybe they were cutting back also but gave them another chance. Got them 3 more times after and each time they were loaded with the good stuff!!!!

Enjoy your vacation.....and all the Disney goodies!!!!! :)

Catne, let us know how you make out with the beignets..if they will SUPER powder them for ya

Sorry it took me awhile to get back to all of you...just got home today (boo hoo!)

Anyway, I tried twice to get the beignets the old way (dusted on both sides with powdered sugar) but was told both times that's not the way they make them, sorry.

So what I did was immediately flip the beignets over & sprinkle the loose powdered sugar on the still-hot beignets. That made them much more like the old version...and much better than non-sugared.

that's so strange, cuz I never have had them with both sides powdered......there has ALWAYS been enough sugar on the top to dump over/dip in the other sides......

I still love them! YUM!
