Live from VB-update on holding pool chairs

Typically, these people send their young ones down between 7 & 8 am to make reservations then they don't arrive until 10 am when the life guards go on duty. I've seen people block (I like that word) a table and not show up until after noon.

According to DH, it's usually the dad who has that duty or grandpa who's up getting his mug of coffee.

Although I'm not that bold, LOL, I'll do the same thing. If after an hour, no one has used that chair, I don't care if your picnic basket is on it with your car keys and hat, I'm using your chair.

The problem I saw and mentioned to a CM this week at VB was you have those huge "family gatherings". The groups that send people down at pool rope drop or earlier and reserve with "personalized" t-shirts 20+ chairs, basically one whole area. If you saw any of this group, I think you might think a second before you moved their stuff. But when they did show up at about 10 they never left until the sun went down.

Here's a photo I took at about 10-10:30 AM second week of June last year:

But it seems like the pool-chair-hogging issue surfaces every Spring Break. I wonder if it's the same couple of families - it certainly sounds like they have a "system" worked out.

That's the exact area Starbox that "the gang" reserved every morning. :rotfl2: They went from that front row all the way back to the community center.

A sidebar question...

Is there any sign of construction on the condos that were planned for next to VB? The end heading toward Vero (not toward the public beach)?

No sign of construction whatsoever, just a sign about the condos.

what i dont get is why the CM's dont police this nonesense at all the resorts. Sure its an unpleasant job, but its so rude! I don't care if within 20 mintues the family shows up and uses the chairs, but when they sit all day, and all the little kids are in the pool all day long, and they still hog the chairs, its annoying!

I can understand why the CM's give people a wide berth, we had some guy(who was much shorter than my DH) about start a fight with DH on our NWA flight down to FL. We were about to get bumped because of weight restrictions, getting all excited about 4 $300 dollar vouchers, when they decided too many kids, less weight, we can put you on the flight. They bumped one lady in 1st class(DH took that seat) and the kids and I were in a row of three. The guy was mad that myself and the 2 boys sat there and his family was split up 2 and 2. The NWA FA's went out and got a large male gate person who basically told him to sit down he was holding up the flight. We were about 15 minutes late leaving the gate.

I was really kind of ticked off with the "Soprano" family this week. They took over 20 chairs and very rarely were there 7 people there. On the first day, I took a chair near the pirate ship and soon realized that the spray from the ship drifts over the chairs and it was quite cold. We ended up getting tables in the very back for DMIL & DFIL.

when we were down on the beach, I wanted to get MIL a chair and there was one empty. I knew someone had already rented it and left so we set up there. This dude in front of us told me three times the chair had to be rented and we would be "penalized" if we did not rent it. I eventually went and paid the rental on it but was surprised at this man's actions.

I was very surprised by the number of jelly fish on the beach. the wind was extremely bad and the jellyfish were being blown into the beach.

On Thursday, my husband & I walked the beach and found a "nest" of crabs that a raccoon or something had gotten into. There had to be 150 to 200 crabs on the shore dead.

I really loved this vacation. We did a lot of the different activities down there and really slowed down. We own at Vero but this has only bee our second trip there. Our first trip was before the hurricans hit in 2004. Things have really changed.

I would like our next trip to be a little later in the year so that the weather might cooperate more but spring break is spring break.

If you are travelling back from FL to do take I95 north through SC. The construction traffice delayed us 4 hours and there was no way to get off.

Did you see some of the Soprano's, no wonder the CM's weren't going to say anything to them.:rotfl2:

The weather was okay for me, it sure beat Ohio, but am looking forward to next year when we'll be heading down 4/4. We've been at WDW in November and had long underwear on, and the next year in the pool every day.

We had a CM chase off some people who took our chairs and umbrella because I was a little late getting the boys down to the beach. Oliver, the CM was pretty diligent about remembering who had what chairs and would have the non-renters move. Wednesday we went down late and sat down and soon Oliver's helper came trotting over with his rental paperwork.

Guess we'll see you next year Missy! Our boys loved VB, surprisingly they were not afraid of the ocean, the eldest wants to get a boogie board next year.

I've seen the "Soprano" family here twice. It seems they show up around Easter annually. They actually had T-shirts that said "The Sopranos" (gun pic and all) and yes ....15-20 seats daily right in front of the pool. And yes....they were from New Jersey.

So I may get another chance to see them again next year!

I think those t-shirts were just for chair reserving. :rotfl2:

How do you rent the chairs on the beach? Is it just chairs and umbrellas? No cabanas, right? Is there a CM on the beach? Or do you rent before you head out...

thanks..

We've been there several times in August and chair saving is bad then too.

When I was at Vero, I took a special delight in removing all personal items from the chairs and tables and piling them up on the ground over by the ship!:lmao: If the owners weren't there, the stuff was gone! I often heard grumbling about the person who moved the stuff at the pool; it made me feel like James Bond:rotfl2:

I don't have much patience with hoarders of pool chairs and I would be inclined to take move the stuff too. However, it's never come to that for us.
I'm not fussy about location and we find something, and I hope that luck lasts.

As far as what you can rent on the beach, if I remember there's a tent that can be rented, but I don't think it's large like a cabana. My DSis rents one for the shade it provides.

Our "all family" trip to VB is coming up in June, and I was thrilled to learn that the night turtle walks through the Caribbean Conservacy are offered on Monday nights and I signed 6 of the group for one of the walks!!! DH and I will stay behind to babysit and play card with another couple:goodvibes I'm not as agile on the sand in the day, it wouldn't work for me at night.

There is a building on the walkway to the beach(it has a name but I can't remember it). You can rent lounges, beach chairs, umbrellas and what Disney refers to as a cabana. The ones at VB are somewhat tent like, you they go all the way to the ground in the back.
