Live from The Wonder!!

CPM--Got a quick question for you--I've read all the books, etc. etc. etc. on the cruise, and I thought I had a pretty good handle on everything...

HOWEVER, what length extension cord are you talking about? I've packed, in my cruise box, a power strip, and it has a long cord on it....what are you using the extension cord for?

Thanks! Deb

Thanks for the weather info. Can u tell me what time it was on embarkation day when u booked your Palo brunch ressie? I just want to make sure I get a brunch ressie. Thanks again for all of the information, I hope we have 80 degree weather because anything lower and I will not do anything dealing with water.

Could you please do a big favor for a fellow dis-er? I desperately want to know how our favorite server (Januar from Indonesia) is doing. I am worried about his family. Hopefully they escaped the travesty of the tsunami. If they are not okay, I would love to donate some money to Januar's family. Can you find out from guest services if Januar is still on the ship and if his family is okay for us?
Thanks! Have a WONDER ful vacation!!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy every minute !!!!

Hi there.
Final day <sigh> Another beauty. We had Palos brunch at 11:30. We were in line by noon on embarkment to be 10th in line.
Honestly, I wasn't impressed. I know people rave about it but it wasn't worth getting out of that cozy bed this morning. LOL The crab legs were icey, no bagels, lots of anipasto stuff. we did have eggs benedict which were very good, but I guess I'm just not a brunch person.
We relaxed after that on teh deck 4 cushioned lounge chairs, re-booked a 7 day western cruise! YAY Watched the kid's club graduation, very cute!! They gave them tee shirts and mickey grad caps!
Lounged around on our balconey with some room services, caught some of Disney Dreams. Had PC tonight which was great!
I had teh filet, lobster bisque and baked alaska. Very good but all the restaurants have the same menu tonight.
Went to Pub night at Diversions but teh smoke was so bad I had to leave. Hung out at teh Cove until teh beeper went off!! LOL
When I get settled at home I will give a final thoughts review. Some good, some bad thoughts.
Kaykels, I will try & remember to ask about your server in the morning.
Oh, extension cord was good because I could dry my hair and move around and hubby could still be at the mirror or whatever. I'm sure a power strip would work just as well.
Off to bed :(

Cheryl,

Thanks for all the wonderful posts! I'm sure you won't read this until you get home because you are probably getting reading to leave your stateroom right now!

:guilty: :guilty: :guilty:

Hope you had a great cruise and WELCOME HOME!

really enjoying your posts..........have a great time (sounds like you are)......I was thrilled to hear you loved 70's night.......I'm really looking forward to that one........

How old is your son? Curious as to what age it is that really enjoys the clubs.

This may seem like a dumb question, but do they let you keep the menus?

I have no idea. I'm sure you could have just taken them or ask to have them.

He just turned 8. MY friend's girls were 6 & 7. They all enjoyed the clubs. It was like pulling teeth to get them out of there. On CC day, I couldn't get him to come to the beach with us at all. We had them eat diner with us on AP & PC nights. After the first day my son never even asked to go to the pool again.
They really keep them moving, many activities are scheduled throughout the day. Kevin went on a bridge tour, made cookies, flubber, volcanos, played basketball, played game shows, board games and much more along with all the computers, playstations, and music in the lab.

Rachel, I'm sorry I never did get the info you needed. My server didn't know who I was talking about but maybe I said his name incorectly. It was so hectic this morning and the line at GS was long. Maybe someone going out this week can help.

Okay, I pretty much reported most of what we did each day. We all had a ball and I'm exhausted!!

Our cabin host: Don't even know his name, never saw him after the first day. He did his job, nothing more, nothing less.

Our dining room server: Hernan, he had the personality of a pea. He just wasn't the warm & fuzzy kind of server I've gotten on other cruises. He seemed annoyed by the kids and didn't seem to get along with the assistant server.

Assistant server: Robert. Very nice, tried hard by seemed to be intiminated by Hernan.

Head served: ?? Kisses you know what on the last day, looking for his tips I guess.

Room service: My biggest per peeve!! They were terrible. We are not morning people so we always order room service breakfast. The first day we ordered it to come at 10:00 and it came at 8:15. It's a good thing I didn't know what time it was when I opened the door! The food was always cold. We asked for extra half & half and never got it. They did send up an apology note but it was very inconsistent service.

I really wish they would have a non-smoking deck for adults. I love sitting in those cushioned deck chairs on deck 4, but everyone kept coming out to smoke! It was very annoying. The same by the adult pool. Even the people next to us kept going on the balcony to smoke and it was blwoing right at us.

Food has improved a lot since our first cruise. I was very happy about that. It could still stand a little more improvement for the $$ you pay but I was satisfied. I really enjoyed the new Cove, it's very comfortable and relaxing in there.

They should really have at least one adult show, musical or something in the show room. When I looked around in the audience at the second seating for Golden Mickey's (which was very good) there was hardly a child in there.

Children were once again at Serenity Bay and the adult only pool. Never told to leave. A whole family rode thier bikes to SB and just made themselves at home on the beach. I had left the family beach because it was so noisy and then I still had to hear kids yelling! LOL I'm not a kid hater, I love them but that is an option we have and rules should be followed. I can't believe people just don't care.

My stateroom was very noisey. Cabin 5122. There was some kind of grinding under us, what a shame. I did report it. The people next to us heard it also. It kept me up all night. It's too bad because I loved the location.
We rebooked for the 7 day next January. Cabin 6592. Anyone have any commnets on that cabin?

All & all we had a WONDERful time. The 4 day is too quick, you feel like you have to do everything and there is so little time!! So, we'll see how tha 7 day goes.
I wish the ship was a little more lively at night. People go to bed early. The farewell party is more like a character greeting then a party like the other cruiselines have.
Any other questions??? :flower1:

I enjoyed following your postings since I will embark on this coming Sunday. I did not see if anyone else what movies are playing, but I will find out for myself soon enough.

At the end of your summary post, I was surprised to see that you booked another DCL cruise. I am pleased that you did enjoy yourself enough to have done so, but just as an individual reader of your postings, the tone I saw was that you had a noisy room, could not get away from the smoke, had bad service, were unable to make use of the peace and quiet supposedly offered by the adult-only areas at the pool and beach, and thought the Tropical party was a dud. You mentioned the general idea of the $ you pay, which means you do have a sense of getting what you pay for and felt you had paid an amount that could have merited more, though you did say you were satisfied. You weren't impressed by Palo's brunch and found many examples to support your impression.

Then you sum up more than once by saying you had a wonderful time! Looks like you had great weather, enjoyed the activities you did together (had fun while losing at Bingo) and all in all, must certainly have taken whatever wasn't great with a grain of salt! good for you for not letting certain aspects cloud over what was overall, you expressed, a great time.

Last week on the Wonder 3 day (we got off the day you boarded) I was very happy to see enforcement of the no kids rule at the adult pool. I was about to go say something to a group that was clearly not 18 but my husband gave me a look....a CM came promptly over and asked them to leave...I did see many kids accompanying their parents in the Cove Cafe though.

LOL I felt like most of my bad experiences are easily fixable. I will investigate the noisy room and book a different one. I'll skip brunch, it was good but I was so tired that day it didn't seem worth it to get up to eat again!
The kids in the adult areas really didn't bother me that much I just can't believe with all the family areas people would allow thier children in adult areas. It truely amazes me. The Tropical party wasn't great so we left and had a great time in Wavebands, no big deal. I can always have a good time!
I really like the Disney ships and the kid's club alone is enough reason to book again. My son will be 9 next time so I'm sure my time on DCL is limited. I'm not sure I would book a DCL trip if I wasn't taking a child, unless they add some more adult stuff, but that's me. My next big cruise is actually on Carnival in July for a 7 day on the Valor. The DCL next Jan.
The smoke is a problem on any cruiseline, so I guess it's my problem. I just think it's an easy fix for any cruisline, It would kill them to have a non-smoking deck. Either you have to hang out at the kid's pool or not.
We traveled with two other families, we all had a great time just being with each other.
Our server and room service were the two biggest disappointments. Hopefully both will be better next time. It was a big improvement overall from the Maiden Voyage of the Magic in 98! I guess that's why it took 6 years to try it again!
Let me see if I can find the movie list for you.
MJ, I also saw plenty of kids at the Cove. Parents should be ashamed of themselves for that and Disney should shoo them away <G>.

Here ya go:

Mr. 3000 (PG-13)
The incredibles (PG)
Ladder 49 (PG-13)
National Treasure (PG)
Around the world in 80 days (PG)
The life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (R)

Do you remember the cruise director's name on your 4 day Wonder trip?

Yes, Jacqui.

Cheryl....too bad we did not know each other back in '98....we were also on the Maiden Voyage and I can attest that is was not the best sailing!!!! But, I must say that DCL did get their act together and I think many of the problems mentioned are due to parents not knowing/thinking.

I saw the most kids at the adult pool area and Cove Cafe during the first afternoon as everyone was getting a good look at the ship. Luckily the kids at the adult pool lessened with each day and a CM was on hand to shoo them away most times. I guess because DCL does not have dedicated lifeguards at each pool that kids sometimes slip through to the adult pool. Each time a CM was around when kids were they intervened....once I saw some kids in the adult pool when no CM was around and I saw a guest go up and tell them it was adult only...so, no kids were not in the pool for long!!

We also had Jacqui and Captain John!!!

I share your willingness to try others, and am going on RCCL next February, but that is not w/ DS. DS is 8 this week on the Wonder, will be 9 in April on the Magic. Movies may seem to some a waste of cruise time, but we don't get to the theater much because of busy schedules, so it is something of a treat on a vacation (we go at the beach, too).

Thanks for the reply, and we all look forward to seein a comparative report after you have sailed the Valor.
