HI! I don't have a lot of time right now but thought that I would give a quick report to those of you out there that may be wondering about the damage. I have not left my room yet but I have a courtyard view and the tree damage that I can see is extensive. From my balcony I can see at least six trees that are down. They are mostly the tall wispy pines. There are buckets all over the lobby to catch the drips from the ceiling and MANY towels on the floor. Last night they secured all the outside lights etc. with ropes, sandbagged the doors and made all the guests go to their rooms. They gave everyone a flashlight and said to stay in your room until further notice. It was very eerie. Once the storm passed they opened WCC from 11 to 1 for a buffet---$10--and you had to take the food back to your room. Sorry if someone already reported this but I do not have time to read all the other posts right now.

Thanks for taking the time to report! Glad people seem to be doing okay--hate to hear about the damage, though.

Waiting to hear how Fort Wilderness fared--please post if you hear anything. So many tall wispy pines there!!

Thanks also for letting us know - DH and I were praying for the safety of the guests and hoping that everyone rode it through safely.

Cookie55, Thank you for taking time to post. Please post again later in the day to give us updates about what you have seen and learned. As you can see (my counter), I will hopefully be at WDW very soon!

Thanks for the update! We are also waiting to hear how things look at Fort Wilderness................Has anyone heard yet?

The following is the letter that was placed under our door last night....
August 2004

Dear Guests:
THIS IS AN URGENT MESSAGE:
Due to the proximity of Hurricane Charley, the possibility is imminent that this area will be under storm conditions. In view of the size, strength, and possible path of this hurricane, we recommend that, if you are in a building away form the main lobby, you remain in your Guest room for your safety and do the following:
• Keep away from windows and stay on the far side of the room.
• Keep your connecting room doors open during periods when privacy is not necessary.
• So that we may reach you in the event of an emergency, do not double lock your Guest room door.
• Leave you Guest room blinds or drapes closed and all patio furniture in the room.
• Do not leave your room until notified.
For you enjoyment we have a continuous showing of the following feature films on these channels:
Finding Nemo Channel 14
Monsters Inc. Channel 18
Brother Bear Channel 23
Please continue to closely monitor the weather on your in-room television. We will advise you when the weather authorities have determined that the storm has passed. Also, please contact the Front Desk if you have any questions or require further assistance.
Sincerely,
The Cast of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Villas

COOKIE55,

Another update...We took a ride over to Celebration today and the damage there is extensive. Many trees blocking roads, etc. Most areas have no power. We went to Publix to get OJ and milk. They were open but had no power. They were not selling refrigerated products and were running the registers off generators. Drove around the Disney property and saw many trees down and a few signs. Tried to walk over to Fort Wilderness but the path was blocked. Saw that they moved the Fort Wilderness guests to Port Orleans Riverside. Guess thats all for now.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear everyone is ok. I see you are trying to make the best of your stay:D
