Live from the Magic!!!

Hi Minniesota!

Glad to hear about your wonderful cruise! What dining rotation do you have? and what made you decide to go to Palo's on the night you chose? We were thinking about doing the dolphin excursion in Anguilla. Is there THAT much waiting? Answer if /when you can! It's STILL cold here in south NJ and the snow is blowing!! Take care!:sunny:

Your reports are awesome. We are taking serious note of them as we will be on the same itenerary on 2/7. Hoping for warm weather but it has to be warmer than here. Is it warm enough to swim in the pools? Can't wait for the CC report.

Here are some tips from Divers Alert Network for see urchin stings. Hope this helps

Some sea urchins are covered with sharp venom-filled spines that can easily penetrate and break off into the skin. Others (found in the South Pacific) may have small pincerlike appendages that grasp their victims and inoculate them with venom from a sac within each pincer.
Sea urchin punctures or stings are painful wounds, most often of the hands or feet. If a person receives many wounds simultaneously, the reaction may be so severe as to cause extreme muscle spasm, difficulty in breathing, weakness and collapse.

The Treatment

Immerse the wound in non-scalding hot water to tolerance (110 to 113 F / 43.3 to 45 C). This frequently provides pain relief. Other field remedies, such as application of vinegar or urine, are less likely to diminish the pain. If necessary, administer pain medication appropriate to control the pain.

Carefully remove any readily visible spines. Do not dig around in the skin to try to fish them out - this risks crushing the spines and making them more difficult to remove. Do not intentionally crush the spines. Purple or black markings in the skin immediately after a sea urchin encounter do not necessarily indicate the presence of a retained spine fragment. The discoloration more likely is dye leached from the surface of a spine, commonly from a black urchin (Diadema species). The dye will be absorbed over 24 to 48 hours, and the discoloration will disappear. If there are still black markings after 48 to 72 hours, then a spine fragment is likely present.

If the sting is caused by a species with pincer organs, use hot water immersion, then apply shaving cream or a soap paste and shave the area.

Seek the care of a physician if spines are retained in the hand or foot, or near a joint. They may need to be removed surgically, to minimize infection, inflammation and damage to nerves or important blood vessels.

If the wound shows any sign of infection (extreme redness, pus, swollen regional lymph glands) or if a spine has penetrated deeply into a joint, the injured person (particularly one with impairment of his or her immune system) should be started by a qualified health professional on an antibiotic, taking into consideration the possibility of a Vibrio infection (see #4 under "Coral Scrapes).

If a spine puncture in the palm of the hand results in a persistent swollen finger(s) without any sign of infection (fever, redness, swollen lymph glands in the elbow or armpit), then it may become necessary to treat the injured person with a seven- to 14-day course of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (e.g., ibuprofen) or, in a more severe case, oral prednisone, a corticosteroid medication.

Hey Minniesota,
Just a quick note to let you know that it is supposed to be a record breaking cold night here in Minnesota. I think we got down to -32 with the wind chill factor today. Congratulations on picking the perfect week to be on your Disney Cruise!!
Enjoy,
A fellow very cold Minnesotan

Wow and I thought it was cold here in Pennsylvania. 99 days and counting; 99 days and counting; 99 days and counting; 99 days and counting....... Ah, now I feel warmer.:smooth: pirate:

no queen mary II wasn't there, my server on 1/10 cruise said he heard it was going to be there, obviously he was wrong,

Well, the cold spell in Minnesota continues. This a.m. when DH left for work the temperature was -21, and that was NOT including the wind chill. That was actual temperature! I am so looking forward to our cruise in March!:boat:

Oh please do not torture me anymore with those Minnesota weather reports. I might just get a job on board! CC today was great - everyone was thrilled that we were able to dock after some pretty rough seas yesterday. My spa appointment yesterday afternoon was a good experience but with all the rocking and rolling it was a little hard to relax. People were getting a bit queasy here and there. I guess a wedding party was so sick they only came out of their rooms for the ceremony. I had been taking my Bonine every morning and never felt one bit sick! The stage show - Disney Dreams - was fabulous. Yes I teared up at the end. It was really my favorite of the week.

The debarkation to CC was a bit chaotic - thought Disney could have used some crowd control on Deck 2 aft elevator area. We grabbed some chairs closest to the beach just past Gil's but it was really crowded. Would suggest walking further down the beach and get away from the crowds. The kids and DH snorkeled and said it was OK. The water was very cool but my diehard MN kids hung in there. DH and DS did the aqua bikes and DH about died - he said it was really tough going! DD did the parasailing and while she thought it was fun, it wasn't nearly as adventurous as she was hoping! We ate at the BBQ place and it was OK. I filled up on a couple of plates of fruit from the fruit stand - lots of melon, papyaya and mango! MMMM... DD finished off the day with hairbraiding - looks cute! ANd Dh lost his license. Oops. Good thing he has his passport with him.

I will try and post a complete trip report when I get home. We have really enjoyed the cruise - have some suggestions for improvements and lots of positive feedback. I must say I am ready to get off the ship though. Seven days is just enough time. Looking forward to my own bed, the comforts of home, you know. Now if I could just transfer all that home sweet home jazz to let's say St. Thomas island...be in touch soon. Oh and by the way, if I sound a little blue it's because it's raining for the first time and the verandah isn't too inviting. Guess I'll drag out the suitcases...

Thx again for another great up-to-the minute report! We love them!!! Glad CC's weather was good. My DH and I are going to Nassau tomorrow and I hear it's going to rain there. Well, wish us luck with the weather and welcome home!!

We are back home on the frozen tundra though the temp did get above zero for the first time in 5 days! I guess we really did pick the best week to be out of town. We are all a bit surprised that we are still feeling the motion of the ship. DH went to brush his teeth last night and he swears the counter was moving! I stopped the Bonine on Friday - maybe I should keep it up a couple days! We ended up buying the package of 10 6x8s from Shutters and DH also bought 2 8x10s of the family on semi-formal night. Our bill was $124 -by the end of the cruise we just thought "what's another hundred bucks?" Actually we took about 240 pics with our digital and got a lot of fun stuff, too. Haven't developed the kids underwater work yet.

Packing was a pain - I just hated dragging those suitcases out. We did some of it after we got back from CC (I think we were on the last tram!) and then did the rest after dinner. Bags need to be out in the hallways between 9 and 11 if you don't want to haul them around yourself Sat. a.m. DH and I skipped the Farewell Variety Show but the kids attended with our tablemates and now good friends! DS was particularly intrigued by the guy who juggled machetes while jumping on a pogo stick! Don't try this at home kids! We had a misty rain Friday night and it was really windy up on Deck 10. DS took his waterproof case/lanyard off while playing basketball and it blew right off into the ocean. Some tears over that one.
Not only did he lose the case but also his KTTW - very sad. Kind of fitting for the last night. DH's license never showed up and his urchin spines are no longer bothering him. (Though he does kind of jerk his head around now and then LOL)

We were all packed and had bags out by 10. Sat out on the verandah one last time and rehashed the week. A fabulous time we decided and we might go again but we did not rebook. I talked with Donna, the rebooking queen, for awhile and we were really uncertain about dates. In fact we probably wouldn't go until 2006 and they were only booking until May 2005. I asked if we could book anyway and then push out our dates and she said we could but that if Disney changed itineraries, the discount and $200 shipboard credit would not apply. "Are you changing itineraries?" I asked. Sly smile. "You never know with Disney," she responds. Something tells me there will be changes.

I wanted to respond to specific questions that were posted:
MOVIES
Movies playing were: Freaky Friday, Brother Bear, Finding Nemo, Teacher's Pet, Under the Tuscan Sun, Cold Mountain, Calendar Girls, Spy Kids 3D, The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Cold Creek Manor.

PALO
We chose our Palo days based on other activities. I knew I was doing the wine tasting on Monday with some other Disers at 2:30 and so didn't want champagne brunch and lots of food that day. And I had spa plans for Thursday at 2 so didn't want to interfere with that plus I knew we were having lobster Thursday night and didn't want to be too full to really enjoy that! So that left Sunday for brunch which actually worked out great since that was the character breakfast. We just had coffee and juice and were able to focus on filming the kids and characters. We went off to brunch at 11 and the kids ordered room service for lunch. We had the APL rotation and your character breakfast is the morning after you eat at Animator's the first time. We decided to have dinner at Palo's Wednesday night because we didn't want to miss our first time in each restaurant (Sat., Sun. Mon) and Tuesday night was Tropical night so we wanted to do that. Knew I wanted lobster Thursday night and that was also semi-formal. So that left Wed. or Fri. We wanted to dine with our tablemates the last night and also wanted to spend the last night with our servers whom we became very attached to! Hope that helps!

Sorry this is so long. I'll try to post a trip report on that board but wanted to answer your questions. Post any others and I'll reply. Right now I have a laundry problem. Started it last night and on the second load in the dryer, I went to check it and smelled a sickingly sweet cotton candy odor. You got it - DS left a big wad of chewed gum in a wrapper in his shorts pocket. My dryer drum now sports a beautiful bright blue streaked spin-art effect. Lovely. Guess I'm back in the real world LOL

Wish I was on my verandah!

Welcome home! I "rocked" after our first Magical cruise and we did Alaska this past summer and experienced it then too. VERY strange sensation but mine went away. Sorry about the bubble gum dryer (honestly, I didn't send any of my DS's over to do it). Looking forward to your trip report.

I can't believe how quickly this week went by!

It was great meeting you and your family! I miss our verandah too! My friend suggested I use mine at home but informed her that the temp change was just a little too drastic!

I'll be posting a full trip report later this week so have your questions ready!

Apparently, there will a big announcement this March regarding a new itinerary!

DD had such a great time, she forced me to rebook!LOL

Also, bring clothes with a lot of "give"!

Palo, all I can say - "Culinary Heaven!"

Is it January 2005 yet!?!?
