Live from the Magic!

While this is not live from the ship - I am sitting at the Library in Cadiz looking out a window and can see the Magic :) while I am posting. The cruise has been great!

My one gripe with DCL on this cruise is that their paperwork did not make it clear that you must have dollars or travelers checks in order to get Euros - the paperwork they sent made it sound like you could charge it against your on-board account - but this is NOT the case. I am not the only one who had this same conclusion as I have talked to others as well as Guest services and they said they had had quite a few complaints about it. So buy traverls checks before you come! We are also doing the WBTA and that is what I will do for it so I am not lugging around so much cash. The exchange rate was 1.407

Hello! We are LOVING our vacation aboard the Disney Magic.

I have a blog started for our family for both this TA and the 1st Med....
http://schwetjefamily.blogspot.com/

In a nutshell...

Food is good (still miss the peanut butter pie from Animators)

Glad you are having a great time. I've been following your blog a couple of days now. It has inspired me to create one for our Panama Canal Cruise!

I read on a food review that someone asked their server about the PB pie and within a couple of nights, they had an entire pie served to them at dinner. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. :goodvibes

Stephanie - thanks for the update and glad you are having a good time! Love the purse! Glad the girls are having a great time - the pictures were great!

I wonder if you could tell me(for the wife) how much the pocketbook and purse are. We are sailing on the WB transatlantic and she wants them. Now it is possible they won't have them then but I am sure my DW will find many things to purchase with the onboard credit....problem is the OB credit will be gone after 2 days!
Continue to enjoy your cruise.....hard to believe 14 nights go so fast....and we are not even on the ship.

Hi, also posting from the library in Cadiz. So happy to have FAST and free internet...especially after being without it for about a week and a half.

Cruise has been great so far! Seas have not been as bad as they were last time on May 2007, weather much better this time around. Merchandise not as good as last time, just like Brooklyn said. I am not even too impressed with the Med merchandise.....
Bought one of the new purses though, love it!

A little nervous for my husband and one of my sons flying out of Barcelona this Saturday, trying to get some contingency plans in place.... I am nervous for all those needing to head home after this cruise.

Thanks guys for going to the bother of posting, It is SO exciting for us to read about your travels!

Brooklyn - I was reading your blog and was excited to see you have Miki as part of your wait staff. Is he your server or assistant server? We had him as our assistant on the 2008 EB PC cruise and we loved him.

Have the movies shown in the theatre changed from the first week?

Have you noticed any 2 for 1 drink specials?

Sorry I haven't been on in a couple of days but I've been having internet issues. Last night when I tried to get online, I quit after waiting 4 minutes for a page to load.

This has been fun to watch!

Are they offering any unique rebooking incentives for ya'all or is it just the usual?

Nope, same old ones!

Love the updates......

If you have a chance I would love to see the price of the Dooney Bourke bags. I am going next week and plan on getting one if they have any left!

I will try to remember to look for prices but they were very expensive, IMHO!

For those of you on the ship right now, what's the cruise staff looking like? You know, the entertainment staff that works under the CD. Did any old favorites come back for the European season? Thanks!

I don't know any of them so I'm not sure who is back. I have talked to some CMs who are leaving when we do, others are leaving before the WBTA. There are a lot of new CMs. I have heard they will take 1/2 of the staff from each ship to put on the Dream and the rest will be filled with new CMs.

So...what movies are showing for your second week onboard?

The movies are the same as the first week with the addition of Alice in Wonderland 3-D. I think the new movie Oceans will be premiered on the 22nd but I don't see it written down anywhere. It will probably be in the Walt Disney theater though. So, probably won't see it until the Navigator comes out.

Don't forget it's Pounds sterling in Gibraltar!

Well, actually, it is Gibralter pounds but pounds sterling spends the same. I have been told to ask for change in sterling or not to get change at all because you can't spend Gibralter pounds anywhere else.

I had Ducky do a sketch for me and I asked him if he was going to be on the WBTA and the inaugural Dream cruises. YES - to both!

Madeira was very beautiful! It is all built on the side of mountains/hills. Just awesome! My stateroom hose if from the Phillipines and he said that it is very much like Madeira and seeing the city kind of makes him homesick.

Gotta go or I won't have any minutes left for the end of the cruise!!

The largest one, the one I got was $220 and the wristlet was $49.

He is our server and Fernando (new to DCL) is our assistant. Miki leaves on Sat when we get to Barcelona and is unsure right now if he will be returning. =) He has been great.

The movies did change but not by much. They showed Alice for the first time on Pirate night. Now they have it everyday.

Brooklyn,
Am loving your blog! Noticed you said somewhere that you graduated in Lafayette, LA. I did too, from Comeaux in 97. Hope you are having a great cruise and I can't wait to see what is to come on the med cruise as we are on the May 5 right after you guys!

Sounds like a nice cruise! Can't wait for the canal! I so hope ducky will be on the canal!

So exciting to hear about your adventures. Thanks for sharing.

If someone has time to ask guest services if Clovery Mitchell, one of the crew members ,will be on board for the June 12, 2010 sailing of the Magic. I have lost her email address when my hard drive crashed and of course Disney can't disclose whether she is on board on not.

I would love to request her again as our server. DCL said they would put in for a "magical moment" but 7 weeks is just too long to wait and see if she is really on board. I also wanted to take her a gift.

Thanks so much for taking the time to check for me.
Happy Sailing with CALM waters and WARM weather.

Heidi

Well, actually, it is Gibralter pounds but pounds sterling spends the same. I have been told to ask for change in sterling or not to get change at all because you can't spend Gibralter pounds anywhere else.

Exactly why I said pounds sterling. You can only get Gibrlatar pounds whilst in Gibraltar and are almost worthless outside of the territory.

In most shops you can ask for change in euros but the rate they give you will be unfavourable. However, if you are stuck with Gibralatar pounds, take them to a bureau de change and exchange them for euros, commision free. The best rates are to be found in Irish Town which is a pedestrianised road which runs parrallel to Main Street. Also, if you want a really good cup of coffee and cake go to Sacerellos on the corner of Irish Town and Tuckey's Lane.

Any more questions about Gib, feel free to ask!

Linda - I am so glad you asked if Ducky will be on the Dream!! Now I can get even more excited!!

I wonder what the OBC for booking onboard is for the special 2 day weekend getaway cruise in Jan 2011?

I can see the Magic in the harbour and have taken some photos but cannot remember how to post them, any help please.

It's lovely to see her and brings back a lot of memories, but sad as well....

I'll take some more photos and post them when I get back from work.
