Alex - My DH made a suggestion that Disney should have a representative verify the luggage tags and cruiser - my feeling is that the porters need to do this - do you have any recommendations that Disney may impliment to stop this type of loss?

My biggest concern is theft - that if someone did get your luggage that they will keep it. And some things you just can't replace.

I had the same idea and was told it would be "too much trouble"
The problem is that unlike a plane where everyone gets their luggage at the same time in this case some people leave hours earlier than others

Nothing..and the number they gave me to call has went straight to an answering machine all weekend....
That has me almost as annoyed as losing the luggage! At least if an airline does it you have someone to call.

When an airline loses a bag, due to theft or negligence or whatever, you cannot usually get any help, I'm afraid. We have had lost luggage, and the only phone numbers I could reach were answered by machine.

I feel so bad for your circumstances.....in a well-run operation there is no reason for any of this to happen. It really causes strife, speaking from experience.

Last February, as we flew into LAX to catch a Princess cruise, my ONE piece of luggage just "disappeared". The airline blamed the cruise line, the cruise line blamed the airline, and I set sail with only what was in my carry on, which was an extra pair of panties and my swim suit. My first three days were ruined. I could not attend formal night, and wore the exact change of clothes for THREE days before finally receiving my bags, no explanations, in our first port.

There has got to be a better way....but you can bet that I'll pack differently when we cruise Disney in March.

Well DCL has obviously learned that system!
STILL not even a phone call!
I would have thought they might have picked up the phone since it is monday.
If they don't call by tomorrow I am going to write american express and put a hold on all my charges from the cruise, have a feeling that will wake them up!

alex lost my blanket on my cruise in August. I notified DCL but no luck in getting it back. It wasn't an expensive one but it was comfortable and soft. Guess I will have to head to Mexico and get another next trip to Epcot

Well they found the luggage!!
We just got home about an hour ago and some lady from an outside luggage service called and said it had just come back to the port from the airport after 2 days.
I had an interesting conversation with her. She wasn't a Disney employee. She verified that it happens a couple of times EVERY cruise. She said that the suggestion to have people checking bags on the way out has been made numerous times. What was most interesting though was I asked about not leaving the luggage in the hall and just bringing it out ourself and her answer was "That's what I do!!"
They are shipping the luggage UPS ground.

YEAH!!! So glad that your luggage is on its way home to you!!!

Yes, I think it might be wise just to hand carry everything.

By the way, IF you do handcarry your luggage to the ship, you can request housekeeping to allow you to put your bags in your room. We do this when we travel and it has never been a problem - we put everything by the verandah door and just leave the room so that housekeeping can finish if they haven't already.

Alex - glad to know you have your bags. DH was just asking about that tonight.

Last year we were able to leave our bags in our room even though the steward was still working and it wasn't 1:00. This Nov. there were straps up as you got off the elevator blocking anyone from entering the hallway until 1:00. Be prepared to carry what you carryon until at least 1:00.

They had the straps up when we boarded last saturday Sweet Spot and they didn't let us in to our cabin's untill 130. We just asked if we could dump our carry on's in the room and we were told to go ahead as long as we got right back out.
I'm not saying they will always let you do that.

Very true, but with a pleasant request and smile, most will let you.
