I look forward to seeing you next year!
btw, I think I'll be on the Wonder starting Jan. 25th... I wanted the Magic so I'll switch if I can but it looks like it's set.... either way, I'll hope to transfer to the Magic for another contract at the end of the summer! I'm with the 10-12 year old group to start but will work on a transfer to teens i think once I'm there.
(I'll certainly try to make the 10-12 year group appeal even to the veteran 11 and 12 year olds !) [/B][/QUOTE]

if you transfer to the Magic, hope to see you there in a year.. I'm a little worried about my 12 yr old. She will be 13 by then..

Good luck in your new job.

Linda

We then played "So you think you know your music". Since DD was with us we had all 3 of the musketeers, we are going to stop by the infirmary on friday to see if they can be seperated!
One of them, Emily turned out to be a Disney Musical Prodigy!! Dang she was good, we came in second place losing out because of a bonus question.

Dang... Emily didn't tell me that! I really wanted to play that... both times they have scheduled the "So you think you know your music" game on this cruise, they've done it during our 2nd dinner seating. I think I need to talk to the cruise director about that. They really should try to do it at 2 different times (Not necessarily same day).

On the night of "Who Wants to Be a Mouseketeer," Emily ate with Alex's daughter at the first seating (while we were at our show) and then did the 8:30 WWTBAM. Her seat was the first called! She wouldn't go up, though... even though one of the other adults traveling with Alex's dd offered to go with her. And then she knew the answer to all the questions up to the $225 credit without using a lifeline! Aaargh. You can bet I wanted to toss her off the ship after that. We are really ready to rebook! I tried sitting in Emily's lucky seat for the Jackpot Bingo yesterday afternoon, but it didn't help. Someone else won $6K.

We spent yesterday meeting Paige Davis (the Trading Spaces gal) and her husband Patrick Page (currently playing Scar in "The Lion King" on Broadway). Paige did an hour-long talk/question-and-answer session, then they did 2 hours of autographs and book/cd signing. Thankfully, I didn't have to wait much longer than 15 minutes for mine.

Looking forward to Castaway Cay today. It's my last chance to get some sun.

Hey Alex~
hope you have a great day at CC... enjoy your time there and cherish that warm weather. It's going to be warm here when your family and Ann's family come back up North.. it's going to be in the mid 40's... we're going to have a heat wave... but for the first weekend since the beginning of December==NO SNOW!!!
have a safe journey back!

Karen,
Enjoy that sun... it's been really cold in Omaha.. High today 40..
Still have snow on the ground.. You missed the ice we had the other night..

How sad is it when we have to figure out what our DD's are doing on the cruise by reading the boards!!!!!

WHAT???? How did I miss the part where Page Davis and her Hubby Patrick are on your ship???? OHMIGOD!!! I would have died!! I love them!!!!

Is that a big deal? I ran into her about 4 times before someone told me who she was.... I had no clue
She was dancing on a chair in Rocking Bar D last nite...
It's the last nite of the cruise!!! We are packing....
We made it to Castaway Cay today but it took a WHILE.. I think he was having problems with the wind.
It was cold! Maybe 65 or so..the kids went into the water but few adults.
Still a nice sunny day on the beach though...
We left late..they waited until dusk.. then the Captain and Goofy Santa lit the island christmas tree..it was on the dock...
Nite fell as we were sailing away and the last view of the island was the Christmas Tree shining in the nite....

Welcome home!! Thx for the play by play! We're going to see the LK on broadway on Sunday. Hope your travel home goes smoothly!!

As I'm sure that is a rhetorical question, I won't answer ;)

Glad your cruise went well and that you made it into Castaway Cay.

Cheers,
Grumbo

Thanks for filling us in this week Alex :)

I'm really looking forward to lots of pictures!!!!

I think I would have cried to watch that sight leaving CC with the tree lit up! How beautiful.

Have a safe trip home!

We are now checked in to the always wonderful Walt Disney World Swan Hotel..we aren't flying home untill Monday...
I suppose a little summary is in order...
But first a rant!!!
THEY LOST OUR LUGGAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those who don't know, you put your luggage out the night before and when you leave the ship there is a baggage area in the terminal where you pick it up!!!
Just to make matters worse we had packed so we only had to open up 1 suitcase when we got to the parks since we were only going to be here 2 days..and THAT'S the one they lost!
I guess it isn't unusual.. a porter helped us look for it and he said he usually had it happen to one person a week and that's just him. He said people just take other people's bags and don't pay any attention.
We are "self mobile" with our luggage so next time it is staying in the cabin with us, the heck with that stupid system.
Not a fun ending to an otherwise wonderful cruise!!

OK I'm debating whether to do the good or bad first but I think I'll start with the bad and get it over with.....
1. The Cruise Director! I think her name is Kara... fake smile and once she was down right rude. I don't want to get into details because there were other crew members involved that I like very much but she has about zero personality.
2. The entertainment staff- except for the one jerk that I talked about earlier as far as I know they are all very nice kind people..they just aren't much fun! Everything seems forced, at the deck parties they are all rigid and their spontenaity level is about 0. It's like they hired little smiley clones.
3. The medical staff on the island- some friends of ours had a 3 year old who got a big hunk of sand in his eye on Castaway Cay. They took him to the first aid station where the RN on duty tried to wash it out. He got mad when the 3 year old wouldn't hold still and then ROLLED HIS EYES and announced he was GOING TO LUNCH!!!! After he left a paramedic handed a bottle of saline to the mother and said you try and wash it out.
Just by way of background my DW has 20 years experience in a major Boston Hospital Emergency Room and 1 Years experience as an ER nurse at Children's Hospital in Boston. She had gone with the child's mother and was absolutely appalled at the attitude and treatment.

Ok on to the good!! And there was so much...
I will start with our Cabin Hostess- Anastasia
Out of 4 cruises she was by far the best! A towel animal expert.. serious cleanliness nut.... ask and you recieve NOW. I can't think of a single thing I would have asked her to do different and you couldn't ask for more. Her husband works as in the engine room on the ship.
The Food and Beverage Department- in order of rank not skill :)
Food- Loyd who I believe is the assistant head food service department. Wears a white officers uniform. A real gentleman who I chatted with several times and went out of his way for us once or twice when he certainly did not have to.
Kayen our head server- Honestly? I always feel a bit weird tipping the head server. It seemed like you barely ever saw the guy except the first nite and the last. This time was different. If our server got behind.. the man was there.. any problems they got taken care of right then and there and you saw him EVERY nite several times. I watched him scanning the dining room and then you would see him take off for whatever even looked like a problem, not just to check but to dig in and fix it. He definitely makes a difference
P.J the maitre d' at Palo- wonderful guy very nice, extremely helpful and wonderful with people!
Francesca- waitress at Palo for both the champagne brunch and dinners. Absolutely incredible. You couldn't even think about wanting something and it was there.. a very sweet person.
Simon the assistant beverage manager (they run the bars) he wears a white officers uniform. What a great guy.. him and his mother just bought a pub in england and it would be my first stop if I ever got over there! Another one who was always around, always taking care of things. A few of the bartenders told me he was great to work for.
Rudolfo, Alex, Callan, Pierre- all bartenders at the new place, Diversions.. AWESOME!!!! what a fun group, excellent service.. hard working, tons of fun.
Diversions is GREAT!! A huge improvement and the British Pub Nite on the last nite of the cruise is a must do. It was probably the most fun I had on the whole cruise.
Lourdes is a bartender at the goofy pool bar who is just so great.. the crew calls her mom.. if you talked to her you would see why!

There were more wonderful people, my apologies if I left anyone out!
BTW they do read these boards, a few people knew the URL.

Any sign of your luggage yet????

Hey Alex it seems you forgot to bring up that your DD has found the man she is going to marry ;)

Not live anymore!!!

We made it home around 1:30 am this morning, after a 2 1/2-3 hour drive from the Kansas City airport. No lost luggage (sorry about yours, Alex!). We had to wait in line with our luggage to get it checked by Delta (didn't want to schlep 8 bags and all our carryons to the limo), then met with our DVC reps to sign the paperwork (our state isn't registered)... when we got to the limo, my husband said the driver said, "You're finally here." I think we had said 9am for pickup and it was 9:20. Excuse me! It was our first cruise... we had no idea how long it would take. He had no personality; neither did the first guy who picked us up. We'll try another company next time. (This was Happy Limo.)

We had him drop us at the airport Hyatt and got a day room (our flight out didn't leave till 5:35). Oh my gosh, the rooms are so big! And that's not just the delusions of someone who has been used to a cruise ship cabin... ;) This room was bigger than a room at the Poly. Absolutely amazing. We were able to rest up a bit, then met some friends who live in the Orlando area downstairs in the food court and talked to them for a couple of hours. Had a ball with them, but we could have seriously used more rest.

My overall impressions: We will definitely do this again. :goodvibes We love the dining rotation and the way you keep your servers all week. Our servers (Matej from Croatia and Chris from St. Vincent) were super guys. The head server, Jeevan, never failed to see us each night; he was most often the one who seated us and always stopped by the table to check on us, sometimes helping deliver food.

I found the cruise staff to be fun. I don't know how they manage to be so friendly and cheerful with the amount of sleep they get each night. They are up late into the night with the adult parties (usually lasting till 1) and then up early to get people organized for their excursions on port days, or to run the family activities. I asked Joshua how much sleep they get a night and he said they are basically allowed/planned for 6, but it is hard to get to sleep quickly after a wild party, so usually it is more like 4 hours.

Most overused phrases of the cruise: "Yeah baby" and "Bingo love."

Things to remember for next time: 2 way radio so we can keep tabs on Emily. Some days we only saw her for dinner; towards the end of the cruise, she started skipping dinner and eating early with her friends and hanging with them while we were eating. We never really knew where she was... usually had some idea, but would have preferred knowing how to contact her.

Book earlier so we can get 1st dinner seating. Alex kindly offered us room at his table for first seating later on in the cruise, but by that time we were attached to our servers and didn't want to leave them.

Do more family activities. We found the evening activities were hard to do because of our dinner seating. Many often ran during the 2nd seating. I talked to the cruise director about that and she said she would double schedule some of those activities.

Pack a little less stuff. 'Nuff said. ;)

I know there is more.... but it is early and I need to start getting ready for church.

Karen

Alex - so sorry to hear about your lost luggage. People think I'm weird but I always try to have only carry on luggage when I travel anywhere. Try being in Europe with one carry on for two weeks....it takes planning and lots of handwashing.

No excuse for the porters not checking the luggage tags even if the other cruisers don't. I hope you have insurance for this problem.

I think your evaluations were fair and accurate. Thank you for being honest and not being all wrapped up in the Magic pixie dust in your evals.

Take care,

Rae

Yeah Baby!, and with all that Bingo love being spread around during Bingo,(like the norwalk last year) - WE NEVER GOT HIT!LOL

It's true.. Jay's 3 year old son decided my DD was his number 1 girlfriend!!
We had the radio's Karen, you can see all the good they did us :)
Still no word.. no calls no nothing on the luggage, the number they gave me is just an answering machine!
couple of suggestion- if you are renting a car at the port, send just a driver to get the car and then swing back and get the others and their luggage. I saw a bunch of people trying to drag all their luggage off of that small bus, kids getting pushed over and generally not happy. I was in my rental and gone while they were still trying to get off the bus! The port is on the way back anyway.
Our plan was to drive to the parks and go to Epcot but I agree with Karen about more rest. We wanted to ride Mission Space since DD and DW had never done it. The whole week came crashing down on DD, she's not used to sleeping that little and she got really sick and dizzy. We ended up leaving the park. I talked to some VERY sweet guest service people and they gave me one day park passes to replace the ones we had used. Even though we won't use them this trip at least I don't feel we threw away a 150 dollars worth of park passes.
Next time I will schedule a down day of the hotel and some light activities!
DD got a great nights sleep and it's off to the Magic Kingdom today!
