Live from the AKL!! ** UPDATED 21/08**

Great photos, glad you are having a fab trip. The pictures are making me excited as we are heading to AKL this weekend!!

We went to Blizzard Beach yesterday, got there at opening and Alex went on Summit Plummit and the other rides whilst I happily read my book on a sunbed. It was fab weather and we had a lovely day of relaxing in the sun, floating round on lazy river and the occasional ride. The only thing that niggled at me was that at lunchtime when we went to get something from one of the food areas all of the tables were taken and had peoples things on them yet there was not one person actually there or in the queue! As there were no free tables we had to sit at the one of the table with stuff on, half way thru the people got out of the wave pool and came over, they didn't say anything to us but gave us the dirtiest looks for sitting at 'their' table even though they weren't even eating there!

We went to AK last night for EMH, after seeing Debs pics of AK at night I was really looking forward to seeing it in the dark. We were hoping to go on a few rides but everything had queues of at least 45 mins so we just wandered round. After a while I noticed that loads of people were leaving, there were literally hundreds of people flooding towards the exits so we figured it must be much quieter on the rides, when we had a look though the times were now all 60 mins plus! :confused3

Today was another very hot and sunny day, we went to Seaworld this morning and got there just at opening. Alex went straight on Manta which he said was the best ride he had ever been on :thumbsup2

After that we went straight to the Dolpin show which we both enjoyed. We then wandered round the penguin and sea lion areas before going to the Clyde and Seamore show, this is my absolute favourite show, I could watch it again and again.

After that it was over to the sharks and then round to the Shamu show which was great, I've never seen the evening shamu show and now we have a car I think we will try to see that this trip. :goodvibes

After the Shamu show we went over the Kraken and then Manta but both had queues of 60 mins so we left it. After a look round some other bits and a browse of the shops we left just before 2pm and headed to the Golden Corral.

Here is a pic of the giraffes near our balcony

Oops I haven't updated for a while, we have been too busy having fun :goodvibes

So, on Thursday we went to BB again and had a very relaxing day, dh loves all the rides and I love reading my book on a sunlounger with a dip in the pool or lazy river when I get too hot :thumbsup2

On Friday we went to Universal Studios, we had only been there once before a few years ago and didn't esp like it, the queues were huge and alot of the rides were broken etc. However now we have a car and a flex ticket we thought we would give it another go and this time we really liked it. We got there just after opening and went straight to the Simpsons ride, it had a queue of 40 mins which was the longest queue all day. We both liked the ride but thought it was a bit bonkers! After that we went to MIB which was broken last time, I loved this, dh liked it but said it was too short, I think he was sulking though as I beat him! We then went on Jaws which we both enjoyed, these last 2 rides only had wait times of 5 mins which was good. I saw that the Blues Bros were about to perform so we went over for that, half way thru dh went and rode the Mummy (also closed last time) and he said this was very good. We then headed over to Twister (also closed last time, you can see why we weren't impressed!),, dh thought this was ok and I really liked it. We stopped off for a cake at the place near SHrek 4d, that ride had long wait times so we skipped it. The Terminator 3D show was starting in 30 mins so had a look round some shops and then went into this, both loved this :goodvibes. Rip Ride Rocket was going round without people in it, dh had hoped to ride this but will just have to wait. We decided that we had seen most of what we wanted to so we wandered back to the car and went in search of food. We stopped at TGI Fridays for lunch and had a great meal, the food was way, way better than we have ever had in the one near us at home, the staff were really lovely as well. :thumbsup2 Suitably stuffed we waddled back to the AKL for a hard afternoon of relaxing :goodvibes

On Saturday, we started packing for out move to OKW today, we did the washing and then hung round the pool. In the afteroon we went to the Poly for the Dis meet and it was lovely to meet everyone there  I thought the Poly was incredible, I've never really been that interested in staying in a MK resort but after a look round there I have changed my mind! The pool has a view of the castle and it was gorgeous. Sadly as there is no DVC there I don't see us staying there :sad2: Last night we ate at Boma again and the food was just as good as last time, I could eat there every day! :upsidedow

Today we moved to OKW, we dropped our cases off in the morning, I didn't think we would be able to check in so soon but we could and our room was already ready. We left our stuff and then headed off to the Florida Mall for some shopping. Dh bought me a Pandora bracelet and 2 charms as a late birthday present :lovestruc

We went to DTD tonight, had a sandwich at Earl and then went to the Cinema and saw District 9 which was good. We stopped off at the center at OKW and had a look round, to be honest I'm not that impressed with it, I much preferred AKL :sad1: Our room is in villa 37 which is miles from the center where the pool etc is, its the only place you can fill up the mugs as well, not liking the fact that you have to either drive of get a bus to get a drink! We are going to go to Walmart tomorrow and buy food and drinks for the room so we don't have to go to centre. I'm hoping the resort will grow on me, it is nice being close to DTD.

Sorry about the lack of pictures, I will add some tomorrow. For anyone coming out soon the weather is still fab, very hot and sunny and hardly any rain and will hopefully stay that way wthout the tropical storm! :wizard:

Sorry had to post on Matts account, wouldn't let me post for some reason, Wayne.
Hi Jen, great to meet you on Saturday, I posted our pic on the meet thread hope you saw it.
We have been using the pool near you, prefer it to the large one, can also fill your cup there although not open as much as main place.
I think most for people OKW would be a come down after AKL, we are enjoying OKW but we could just as easily be offsite I would never pay the full rate here £91/night incl DDP for 3 of us is about its worth for me, AKL(or the savanah views) is the perfect place for us but I couldn't pay the price for it.
As for the mugs, I am glad we only bought 1, even 16 nights we will hardly break even, walmart are selling 2ltrs of coke for $1, thats 26 ltrs for price of 1 mug. Also bottled is nicer than fountain.
Hope you enjoy your stay here.:goodvibes

I know what you mean about OKW Jen - we were a bit disappointed when we first arrived there last year, expecially after we all fell in love with Wilderness Lodge. However, it did grow on us. We were in building 45 so not too much of a trek to the Hospitality House but, even so, we stopped using our refillable mugs because it was too much of a hassle. We did enjoy OKW but all agreed it wasn't a patch on VWL. Hope you manage to enjoy it too :)

Rip It Ride It Rocket has opened for soft openings.

Jen, just catching up on your thread.

Sounds as though you are both having a fantastic time.

Ok so I am officially rubbish at posting updates!!

So on Tuesday we went to US, it was absolutely heaving there, we bumped into Wayne there and he said that the free dining for Americans means that this week is no longer a quieter week like it has been previous years. Alex rode Hulk, we both rode Spiderman, love the ride but HATE the queuing system there, everytime you think you hae reached the front you turn the corner and there is another queue. Alex then rode Jurassic PArk and DD, it then poured with rain so we took shelter in a shop. When it stopped we rode the trolley ride (can't remember the name) as it was just reopening, this felt much higher than it was and I embarrassed Alex by being scared! :scared1: It started raining again and the rides cloed again so we gave up and left the park.

We went to Epcot on Weds, rode Spaceship Earth, Honey I shrunk the audience and test track, after that we spent a fortune in Mousegear and then went back to the hotel.

Thurs we were meant to go to TL but I was up all night as the AS level results came out that day and I coulnd't stop thinking about that! We ended up spending the day by the pool which was nice, I bumped into Wayne again who now thinks Im stalking him! :upsidedow

Today we left the hotel and checked in at DTD at 8:15am, usually we check out at 11am and just hang round DTD but this year I was determined to do a park on our last day. They said at checkin that our flight is delayed by 2 hours but according to the Virgin site its now only an hour, hopefully it won't increase. :headache:

We were at HS by 9am, ou big mistake was not checking where EMH was, I presume it was at HS as all the rides had queues of over an hour by 9:10am! We gave up HS and instead went to AK where it was much better, we rode the safari, saw the flights of wonder show and then rode Dinosaur. We left at midday and went to the Golden Corrall for lunch and now we are here at DTD,

Sounds like you've had a lovely trip Jen - can't wait to hear about it in more detail. Are you still coming on Sunday?
