Live from HH

Can you tell lme about the festivities? We want to head over on Saturday and will be eating dinner at the Pirate house. Is that a good place to go?

The parade is Friday the 14th. Do not plan on eating downtown unless you want to wait a long time.

Saturday may be worse because those of us who have to work Friday will be off Saturday. The Boss and I plan on driving over to HHI for the day to check out those sales at the gift shop.

Saturday, there will be music and lots of drinking on the river. There will be Irish Music and fun, if you like that kind of stuff.

You probably can find a better place to eat than the Pirates House, but, the theming is good. The problem will be getting in. If you can, go out to Tybee, head for the Lighthouse, and, across from the light house, between the Tybee Museum and the Shriner's Hall, is The North Beach Grill. I would HIGHLY recomend it. It looks like a dive, but, the food is heavenly!

Hey Doc....
Any word on the new hot tub that's supposed to be going in at the Beach House?

Yes - it has not yet been installed.

At the Beach House, where the kiddie splash area was/is located, they have removed the giant beach balls and there is a sign there - "Please excuse our dust while ...." - so we assume the Hot Tub will be installed in that area soon.

I did ask a couple of CMs (I wish I had asked Gordon) and they were not aware of a Hot Tub being added. Anything like that will require some structural support and with the parking garage located under the pool deck there are only certain areas adequate to support a tub without additional structural changes - so I'm betting that area is the spot.

Stay Tuned!

Thanks for the report and pictures. Did you buy anything good at the logo sale?

Yes, we bought several shirts and a ball cap. Total for everything was $33. They expect the new logo merchandise by the summer.

Today we had a "mini-meet" with LindaBabe and her DH (Bruce). It was great to revisit the past with her (I've known her since before the DIS from another Disney site - and that was over 10 years ago). She is staying at HH now and saw this thread and got in touch with me.

They have completed several sections of the paving (still have more to go), the rock shore has been completed and grading has been completed around the lodge area and they have completed about 1/2 of the walkway around the Rec. Cented. Instead of more blacktop, that area is being completed with paving bricks. I expect this all to be completed by the weekend. (They've had a small army of workers onsite all week.)

Thanks for the tips! I figured it would be crowded so I had made a reservation for the Pirate house. We may not go. I will check out Tybee island if we have time. we only about 1/2 day to see the sights.

Are you driving during the day or doing the overnight thing? I am trying to plan the "Travel Forecast" using the major cities we would go through and the estimated times we would be there. Looks like we may hit rain from home through Richmond.:guilty: We find the overnight drive works best for us, I am not a good passenger so I usually sleep the first 6 hours and then we switch. I just get so nervous and the rain will make it much worse for me. :scared1: On the drive home we leave Friday and drive all day, but I do most of the driving until we get to Fredericksburg, VA where we stop for dinner and then DH takes over because DC Beltway :scared1: !!! Where are you driving from in PA and how long will you be there?

Have a great time and maybe we will see you there!!!:goodvibes And you will LOVE this resort. When we joined DVC, we thought we would NEVER go to HH and we tried it in 03 and it is the greatest!!! This will be our 3rd year going the week before Easter.

We are from Quakertown PA but we are leaving from Atlantic city tonight only because we have to go to an awards dinner for my dad. So we plan on driving to about Fredricksburg or Richmond VA tonight and arrive at HH tomorrow afternoon. We want to get past DC tonight to avoid traffic tomorrow morning. My husband will be golfing saturday in the morning so I will just be enjoying the resort myself. We leave on Sunday and head to WDW.

We were there a couple of weeks ago and there were trucks with new appliances on them-refrigerators and stoves- parked outside of the buildings facing the marina. Are these the same units that you saw work at, WebmasterDoc? Just curious.
So can anyone tell me what type of washing machines they have in the two bedroom villas? Is it front loader or top load? We will be there in a couple of weeks and need to know what type laundry detergent to bring if we have to do more loads than they provide the detergent for.

Can't wait to arrive for our first HH trip on Wednesday! I am trying to get as much info on places to eat for dinner as possible. Thanks for the mention of a few restaurants! We will try some out!

We are very excited for our first trip to HHI. We check in on Sat 3/22. Hopefully they'll still have a selection of the logo wear as I'd like to have something to comemorate our trip.

Conan - we would like to come into Savannah one day and specifically try Lady and Sons Restaurant. Is it very hard to get into? Their website states they start taking names at 9:30a. Do we need to be there that early (or earlier) to get a dinner reservation?

They are top loaders.

You "USE" to be able to make reservations, online. If you can't, be prepared to wait in a line that will make Soarin' look like a walk on.

(Hushed voice.....the problem is that due to the fact that Paula isn't in the kitchen any more, the quality has fallen off a little bit. Be prepared...in fact...you may prefer her 'Uncle Bubba's' that is on the road to Tybee. The main issue will be visitors for St. Pats.)

Don't worry, there are MANY places to eat in the downtown area. Paula's place is near the City Market area....just look for the line.

In fact, try this site, www.savannahcams.com. Their server is overwelmed right now, but, later may work better. There is a Lady and Son cam.

We've never eaten at Paula's, but we have eaten at Bubba's several times. He's usually there; the chargrilled oysters are wonderful (according to DH) as is the "Shore is Good" dip and their seafood soup. :cool2:

Conan - thanks for the heads up....all I can say is UGGHHH...don't think DH will be game for waiting in a long line. We'll have to see how it goes, we may end up somewhere else.

Hey DOC!

Thanks for the heads up on the sale at the gift shop. I got a t-shirt and golf shirt for better than 50% and my wife got a fleece hoodie that she looks great in!

We had a great day on HHI. Went to breakfast at Signes', walked on the beach for an hour, then went to the resort and walked around there for about an hour (with many stops). Lunch at the grill was great, as usual.

We ended up over at Beaufort, visiting Parris Island. They have a great museum that everyone should see, and, some historical sites out on the golf course that should also be visited.
