Live from DLR Sept 10-17 Day Five

Setting the stage:

Cast Members:

Me: Inga, 42yo, veteran WDW and occasional DLR visitor, from Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada with an 8 day park hopper
DH: 44yo, same as above, Disney 'lov-a" and here for a Microsoft conference (and sneaking out to DLR whenever possible over the conference week!)
Stay: 8 days at the Anaheim Hilton Sept 10-17 2011

DH was at his conference again today so this was the second day on my own!

Today was time at DCA only...arrived for 9:00am, newspaper in hand to wait for 9:30 'opening' (you can get as far as Ariel which is open, but the area to Paradise Pier is roped off). Only at the park from 9:30-2:00 today as heading out to the big Microsoft party at The Grove tonight...should be interesting...

Highlites:
;) two quick trips on Ariel before rope drop at Paradise Pier...walk ons (5 minutes...but really a walk on). People are waiting at the rope, but why not do Ariel while you are waiting?
;) two trips onto Toy Story Mania...walk on the first time through, 15 minutes the next time...why can't I do better than the Beaver?
;) the solo trip on the swinging gondola's of death, on the Ferris Wheel....despite my tendency toward rides that shake the living **heck** out of me, this ride still freaks me out a bit. LOVE it!
;) Some frolicking on the lesser rides...Swinging Symphony, the Jellies, Carosel, and the other rocket one I can't remember...Swinging Symphony was definitely the freakiest and the best of the four, IMHO
;) Lunch at the bakery, where I had the chicken - apple salad. Less bread in the bread bowel this time, which I prefer as I have a bread addiction that makes me spread :rotfl:
;) Some time at the Bug area...Hemlick's train is so cute, I love hearing him talk...the ride itself is fine but the dialogue is sweet and funny
;) Zoetrophe...I watched that thing 10 times this visit
;) Chatting with Crush - always great, althought I didn't think this particular Crush was as good as others I had heard...

No major 'icks' this time, although I was a bit annoyed with two tween boys who cut in front of me at the Bakery...don't cross Inga on her way to lunch!!!

Ciao for now
Inga

PS still walking to and fro from the Anaheim Hilton with no problems...fueled by bread bowls I am sure :)

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for posting these. Been really enjoying reading them!!

I've enjoyed your daily updates as well.

My husband's at the Microsoft thing as well, so our girls and I have been going to Disneyland with his mom. (Free tablets are cool but not nearly as cool as the souvenirs we get at Disneyland.) We were at DCA today too! It was our first time back in about years. (I really started to not like the place and just stopped going--never felt "Disney" to me.) I went hoping to have a better feel this time, and even with all of the construction it is starting to have a bit of the magic. I loved the trolley tracks everywhere--lots of promise.

I just wanted to say that you must be amazing to be able to watch the Zoetrophe 10 times. 3 seconds were all we could handle. :faint: Have fun at the party tonight!!

Where are you staying? There are computer geeks everywhere! It looks like I will be going back to DCA today again as DL is magic mornings.

I most enjoy the Paradise Pier part of DCA. Having spent most of my Disney time at WDW I am used to a lot of 'Non-Magic Kingdom' type park hopping and DCA is just that in my mind...lots of great theming and rides, but hey, it ain't DL...hard to recreate that type of history and sentimentality having watched Walt's Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday night...not knowing that he had passed away already when I was tuning in as a child!

love the Zoetrophe...and wondering how good all that strobe lighting is for my brain ;)

If you see me today, I am the one with the navy Disneyland Hong Kong hat and red Roots Canada fanny pack...not the most stylish but practical! ;)

Sounds like a pleasant day in DCA. How was the party??

The party at the Grove was...weird...5000 computer geeks and 99% of them male...felt like I was at a gay bar without any of the dancing. I had very high expectations I think and there was lots of food and drink, but I thought I might see a more impressive band...the last time my DH went to a Microsoft event the had Faith Hill and Tim McGraw...and before that the Go-Go's...but this was probably 10 years ago...and of course each conference attendee got a new tablet so I suspect that replaces the cool band.

The funniest thing (so this will give you a sense of how fun the night was;)) was the lineup for the washrooms...huge lineup for the men's room, no lineup for the women's...I have NEVER seen that before and thought it was a hoot. How did they like them apples!?

Party went til 11:30, we left at 10:30...
