Well, Chat's been going boom lately. As in crashing, hanging, or having huge 1-2 minute delays.
I have asked and been told it's ok for now to use the backup if this happens again this Sunday.
We used to use a different chat that is harder to sign up/login to the first time, but it stays up when the new chat has problems.
IF this happens again this Sunday, we can switch to it. I'm including instructions, go thru them once now and make sure you can login to the old chat and have everything ready before Sunday. If the new chat crashes, more than likely the forums won't be available either.
Detailed instructions, if the new chat has problems :
If you're using Internet Explorer, you should download the chat plugin. It works better than the other methods of joining chat.
If you are on AOL, you need to minimize the AOL browser and open Internet Explorer. The AOL custom browser can cause disconnects with chat.
Installing the Ichat plugin(recommended)
Now, to get the Ichat program, you just need to click on the link below.
For Windows Machines with Internet Explorer:
For Macintosh machines with Power PC:
For Macintosh machines with a 68K processor:
When you do so, a box will pop up asking what you want to do with it. Make sure the 'save this program to disk' button is picked and click ok.
Then another box wil pop up. Make sure the pulldown at the top of the box says 'Desktop' and click save.
Now you will need to close the browser and you'll find an icon on your desktop called 'msichat install' just double click it and ok any boxes that pop up and it'll install it for you.
You can put the msichat install in the trash once it's done installing, you don't need it any further.
Now, once you have that done, you need to make a login, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to make sure you can login ok. The chat room is always there, even when there is no organized event.
Making a chat login
I recommend you use the same name in chat as you do here. To make a login, just follow this link(and remember to write down the name and password!!):

Signing in
Once that's done, you can now login! Put in your username and password, then click the pulldown and pick use ichat plugin if you installed or, if you did not or can't install it, try each choice in descending order from the list until you have one that you can connect properly with and you're done! NOTE: you need to click the refresh button in HTML version of chat to see anything, if that's your only choice.
