Live at AKV Concierge!!!

Sorry to hear of your travel frustrations. I had heard spring break week is particularly bad.

Your poor dd we have bad allergies ourselves, but they seem to clear up in FL. ... is she allergic to the animals or just Fl in general? Hope you get her meds soon.

I'm sitting here now trying to talk myself into a Concierge studio room next Feb over a SV 1 br to save points. My son's first question after his exclaimation ("Food!") was "Is the food out all the time?" I told him no (and mentioned that it's just snacks to hold you over until meal time - i.e; everyone shares... don't clear the place out!) I was hoping perhaps you could tell me what times of day they offer up snacks and drinks.

Oh, and do you have access to a camera? and the nerve to trek into the new kidani pool area? hehe... just asking... ;)

Enjoy your trip! :wizard:

You are funny. I am finally reading this but it is 10 pm so a super secret trek to the new kidani pool isn't even an option.

Regarding the food, a bowl of fruit and drinks are out all the time from what I could tell. At 6:30 am, there are juices and coffees available. At 7 to 10:30 am, there are fresh cut fruits, juices, pastries, cereals, oatmeal, and an African like oatmeal thingy. At 11:30 to 3pm, there are "African snacks and beverages"(peanuts, goldfish crackers, gummy bears, homemade cookies - I didn't know these were from Africa but that is what the brochure says :confused3 ). At 3 to 4:30, there are loose leaf teas, scones, cookies and biscuits. At 5-7 pm, there are hors d'oeuvres(i.e. lamb kabobs, chicken wings, squash soup on Friday for us, then meatballs, bbq ribs, and coconut chicken curry soup tonight) with cheese, dips, crackers, and assorted spiced veggies and beer and wine. At 8 to 10 pm, are samplings of deserts and cordials.

It was a nice selection, but we would have to eat at least one meal (lunch or dinner) to satisfy us.

We received our checked bag today around 4 pm. So nice to have my daughters meds... and a brush. Finger combing our hair wasn't really doing a great job. My dd is allergic to "spring." It doesn't matter where we live, she suffers in the Spring. Her RAST allergy test results were off the charts for numerous weeds, pollens, etc. She stayed in the room all afternoon with red swollen eyes but was almost back to normal within a couple hours of getting her eye drops. I still can't believe I packed the meds in our one checked suitcase - so stupid!

We will be moving over to a 2 bedroom at the WLV tomorrow. We love AKV and are really happy DVC added it to their collection. My hubby is sold on concierge. If I could just more vacation time, we would add more points!

Oh, I forgot to add:

The weather has been beautiful. We went to AK today and the crowds were not bad as we expected. We left by about 2 pm and we were just noticing that it was getting more crowded. We were able to do Primeevil Whirl (ooh may have spelled that wrong), the Safari, and the Rapids and all were less than 20-30 minute waits. We even were able to get fastpasses for EE and the safari and the wait until we could use them was only about 1 hour. We had to leave early due to my DD allergies so no shows today - we will try again later this week.

The water in the pool is a bit chilly but probably right around 80 or so. Once the sun went down, our teeth started chattering. I wish they would warm it to >80 like they use to. Those were the days...

Sorry to hear about the pool at AKL/AKV. When we stayed at VWL in December, the main pool and the VWL pool were kept to 83-84 degrees during our stay so at least some WDW pools are being kept a bit warmer.

After the pool temperature fiasco a couple of years ago I bought a pool thermometer. We keep it in our Owner's Locker so that we will be able to check the pool temperature during our stays from now on.

where are the DCV concierge rooms located compared to the regular concierge rooms?

ME is neither magical nor Express. If anyone has an email address I would like to tell them about our recent trip and find out if this is the new plan for those at AKL to be the last stop-if so we may consider some other transportation.

The AKV Concierge rooms are on the 6th floor. They run along both sides of the lobby. There are two 2BR lockoffs facing the pool area and three 2BR lockoffs facing the Sunset Savanna.

So glad to hear you are having a wonderful time. We have plans to stay at AKV's Concierge in Sept and can't wait. Hope you enjoyed your AKV stay and are enjoying WLV's. We enjoy staying at both places. Have Fun!!

That is unfortunate. Our bus driver seemed to think this was a new thing. I do think it is pretty sad to drop the guests off last that are staying at the most expensive resort. I remember that there was a similar set up with the boat that went between the WL and FW and Magic Kingdom. The guests at WL complained that they had to spend so much more time on the boat than the FW guests and they changed the boat routes to accomodate WL guests. I happened to be a FW campground guest more than WL at that time so I remember well. Now that I stay at WL more, I think it rocks (as my 10 year old would say).

This happened to us last October. The same rotation of resorts and AKV was last.

Yikes! Was that bus schedule just to/from the airport or was that the parks bus schedule? I can't imagine all those resorts on one park bus! :scared:

Not to worry, AKL has it's own bus to the parks, and the service has been very good most of the time. We did have one morning last January where the MK bus didn't come, but they sent two in a row to make up for it.

 i love akl concierge. that is the main reason that i own dvc at ak, altho i must say that the all-over lodge and restaurants have a lot to do with it too. i can be happy at akl concierge for several days with out ever leaving the building except to go out side to see the animals. i do love it.:goodvibes

Yesterday, we moved over to a 2 bedroom at WLV. The room wasn't ready so we went to the parks. No problem, didn't expect it to be ready at 8 am. :) We returned at about 2 pm. Room was ready and asked bell services to bring up our transferred luggage. He arrived before we did and opened the door to a strong smell of smoke. The maid was in the hall and she came in and sprayed it. When we arrived a couple minutes later, it smelled like freshly scented sprayed smoke. He called the manager and we waited a little while until she arrived. We had opened the balcony doors and were trying to air it out. When she arrived, she could still smell it but called another manager up to verify the "smoke smell." It was strongest in the kitchen/living room area. Apparently, the 2nd managers verification is necessary because they charge the previous guests $400 as a fine and cleaning charge. Whew! I need to remember to complain in the future if we smell any smoke. I certainly don't want to be charged $400 just because we decided to live with it.

Well, we had the option of leaving the room for a minimum of 2 hours but she said sometimes it could take 4 days to get the smell out OR move to the one other room that was still available - it was a bus stop view and not a woods/lake view. I took the bus stop view since we never requested a view anyways and because the lodge was overbooked. They were walking people already and there were no rooms available on DW property at all or so I was told. I didn't want to be walked. I just wanted a room and am so happy that Noel, the bell services guy, was so kind to get this rolling for me before we arrived in the room. It was pretty funny to see the housecleaning staff, manager, all of us and the kids carrying all our luggage up 3 stories to the other room. It didn't take more than an our to sort it all out. Our new room is just fine and very clean and fresh smelling, even without the air freshener spray.

Not sure if it was related, but we found out today that someone had charged our room with $50 worth of hair weaves last night. I don't think that was related to the room change. We were able to get that deleted from our bill.

BTW, the carpet is beautiful up on 5th floor. Looks like it is brand new. Couch is also new.

Hmmm....oh, the parks and WLV pools have been packed. Contemporary's pool is closed and I think that is part of it but I saw blantant pool hopping occurring from Fort Wilderness, too. I took the boat from the contemporary back to the lodge. There must have been 10 people in the suits, with beach towels and even noodles that got on at Fort Wilderness and off at WLV. This is so irritating when the resort is full and we have the contemporary guests too. Arghh! I blame Disney for this more than the FW guests. I don't think most of them know it is against the rules or at least they know it isn't enforced. Besides, the FW pool is absolutely lame. $60 per night is a lot for a campground space - they deserve a better pool. I don't think you should compare $60 hotel room with a $60 campground space - the upkeep for a campground is so much less - disney makes a darn good profit. Disney needs to make the pool better themed. I hate to think that part of our maintenance fees go toward pool upkeep when this abuse occurs. Does it?

OK, thanks for letting me vent. I love WLV and happy to be home even it I am sharing with 100s of uninvited guests. My 3 year old nephew who is staying with us thinks that this is our house and keeps asking why I let all these people stay at my house and swim in my pool. Funny kid.

You're so funny DizzNY.

I 'm in total agreement with you over the FtW pool situation. It's been joked about for years, but seriously, they need to re-think what's up with river country. We all know they can no longer use the pond water, but disney has some of the best engineers in the business. Surely they can devise a man-made lagoon which feeds the slides and 'river'

$60 a night to lug my own camper in there and use their asphalt, a little electric and water? HA! As a side... I had heard they were planning on adding a slide to the meadows pool. A tiny, half hearted step in the right direction.

BTW - the Adult campers do know pool hopping is against the rules. It's right on the check-in papers just like any other resort. I've never seen this before though - something must be up.

As for the room, the smoke smell would have probably sent me into a severe asthma attack if I tried to live with it, but I've had that bus stop view and not being a morning person, I'll take the wheezing over screaming college kids at 8am. ;)

Just an FYI - currently the main FW pool is closed for it's redo and they are allowed to use the WL pool. I'm not positive but I think their pool is scheduled to be completed sometime in late April.

I actually thought the Contemp guests were supposed to use the Poly pool, but maybe they can use WL also. :confused3

Glad you got the room straightened out before getting in!

It's nice to hear that you were able to change rooms with a sold out resort!! I hate it when a room smells like smoke. I'll have to remember to report it too if we get in a room like that. I wouldn't want to be charged the $400 for something I didn't or wouldn't do.

Hope you continue to have a wonderful time!

I just think that's hysterical! He is a funny kid!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Our home is at VWL too but we aren't going back until December. Thank you for sharing your trip with us- it helps hold us over until we get to go back :)

Well, if thethe Ft Wilderness pool is currently closed, I guess that would explain the blatant pool hopping. My husband corrected me and said the campground fees are over $80 per space. I hope they are refurbishing the FW pool and adding a slide. We have a 5th wheel ourselves and know how expensive it is for the camper and for the gas it takes to take it anywhere. If I paid $80 for a space, water, electricity and sewer, I would expect a decent pool. Get with it Disney!

Today was another great day to be at DW. The weather was overcast and looked like it was going to rain at times but didn't. It was very nice at Animal Kingdom but packed. EE was broke down for 2 hours and the fast pass line was over 20 minutes long when we went in. We even waited until it had shortened a bit. We did the Nemo show and the Lion King - the Lion King is still my favorite but Nemo was entertaining.

Tomorrow, it is off to Epcot and the next day off for our 3 day cruise to end the trip.

Oh, we did the Quick Service Dining Plan and it has worked very well for us. I was worried about 2 families on one plan trying to keep track but decided we would just try to do what we were suppose to and if we run out, we run out. We are doing great and right on track without being too anal. The food has been excellent and are very happy with the selections for children meals. Unlike what some others have noted, we have not seen any break down of how many children and how many adult meals are left. It still seems to be pooled. We have tried to stay with what we have paid for but since we aren't keeping a tally, have no idea if we have ordered more or less of either. I think we might be ruined for cooking in the room anymore. Now, we will just get a 1 or 2 bedroom for the extra room rather than the kitchen.

until later...

sorry, i do not understand. :confused3 what is quick service dining plan? we use the ddp but don't know about the other. please explane.;)
