My daughter is turning six in July. I was thinking about celebrating it princess style. I've heard about character meals at 1900 park fare, a new bibbidy bobbity boo-tique, and cindy's royal table. I was hoping you could share your experiences with me so I could get some sort of idea of a direction to head in. Thanks!

We went to Akershus, the restaurant in Epcot with princesses, for my daughter's birthday last year and we weren't impressed. The princesses seemed rushed and did not acknowledge my daughter's birthday until I pointed out her birthday pin. I don't know if it was this particular day, or if this is what happens there. She was turning 3 and was just happy to see the princesses. I had ordered a birthday cake which never came and we didn't remind them (the service was so bad and we had waited so long we just wanted to get out of there). We ended up going to Beaches and Cream (at the Beach Club Villas) after swimming for dinner and they made a big deal. They brought her a Mickey Mouse sundae and turned off the lights and sang to her.

This year we are going again for her birthday so I booked an appointment at the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique and another lunch at Akershus. We couldn't get in at Cinderella's Royal Table and DH doesn't like to go to other resorts for meals. I would be interested to hear about other experiences of dining with princesses.

Have you heard about the Cinderella slipper dessert? I haven't gotten in myself, but I've read lots of posts about it. If you do a search, you can probably see some pics that people have posted. The Grand Floridian bakery makes it and I've heard you have to call 2 days ahead to order it. You can have it delivered to your room if you're staying at the GF or you can order it if you eat a meal at one of their restaurants. I'm sure someone on the board has the number you can call to get the info.
Anyways, it is a slipper made out of white chocolate and filled with mousse. The pics were darling! princess:

Did you talk to anyone about that? That's awful. That would break my heart. By the way, what is the food like there? Just having peeked at it, it looks awful slimy and gross. :guilty:

The food was ok, I honestly don't remember it because I was so upset! I do remember they served the kids those smuckers pb&j sandwiches and I had mixed feelings about that. It's a lot of money to pay for sandwiches but my daughter is very picky and pb&j is her favorite.

Because my daughter had a good time I didn't want to stop and complain and we weren't billed for the cake. Desert was included in the lunch so it was silly to order a cake in the first place. But I will be prepared this time to not get my hopes up for too much attention from the princesses for my daughter. As long as she's happy, I'll be happy.

We celebrated our DDs 3rd b-day in July of 2004. It was a very magical experience for her. We were told to celebrate her birthday for the whole week there so we did. Here are just a few of the special things that happened that week.
We did the Princess Storybook Breakfast at Epcot - She got to see all of her favorite princesses there.
She received a birthday card from Snow White and the 7 dwarfs. It was delivered to our room at POFQ.
Prince Charming sang Happy Birthday to her at the 1900 Park Fare Character Meal. (This was her most favorite thing!)
There was all this and lots of other little magical things. The cast members at all the parks and at our resort (POFQ) were all wonderful.
Unfortunately, now she thinks she's a real princess and that she's going to go see "her"Prince Charming again this year.
We aren't going for her birthday this year because we couldn't pass up the great free dining special. So we are going mid-August instead. She's a little bummed right now but she'll get over that soon I'm sure.

Don't try to take a wrapped present into the park. We celebrated my daughter's birthday last year and we were heading to Cinderella's for breakfast and celebrate. We took a wrapped princess doll and security made us open it at the gate so they could see it. It was terrible. I realize we all want to be safe, etc... but had I known ahead of time, I would have rather avoided my daughter's crushed face... there were crowds, people were trying to push through the turnstyles - yuck. -Wendy

I took my DD for her 5th birthday last year and we had a great time. There was a really good thread last year about birthdays and it gave me some wonderful ideas:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=751989&page=1&pp=15

I'll recap my post from that thread here -- sorry it's so long, but I was really excited to share all the details at the time!

My DD turned 5 on Saturday. Thanks to this thread, I think we got every magical bday experience offered! Here's what we did.

Before the trip, I made sure that her bday was noted on our room ressie and our PS's at the Perfectly Princess Tea party (for Friday, since they don't have it on Saturday), breakfast at CRT, and dinner at Chef Mickey's. I mentioned her birthday again when we checked in, and it's a good thing I did. I watched the CM write the date and her favorite character down, so I figured *something* would come our way. I doubt anything would have happened had I not said something at check-in, though.

Each time I dropped the hint, I was careful to engage the CMs in conversation first and then casually mention why we were at WDW (without DH and DS), not just say, "It's DD's bday, so please give her something." Not that any of us would actually say that, but as a former CM, I know that attitudes like that get old fast.

I think it also helped that DD was feeling very outgoing this trip. She spoke with each CM who engaged her in conversation, and her excitement about turning 5 seemed to be infectious.

Although I made her a t-shirt with an iron-on proclaiming it to be her bday and she was wearing 3 bday buttons from MK and Epcot, I learned not to rely on those to get the CMs' attention. They see so many people each day, that sometimes they fail to notice the visual cues. For example DD spoke with Ariel for quite a while, but Ariel failed to see her bday shirt/buttons until DD came out and told her it was her birthday. (Appropriate fussing and oohs and ahs ensued.)

Finally, I tried to schedule the earliest possible PSs for all of our special meals. I knew the servers and characters would probably be at their freshest and most enthusiastic.

We enjoyed the most special attention at the more unusual places to celebrate kids' bdays. The tea party, although absolutely wonderful, was the site for multiple Princess birthdays. We sang Happy Birthday as a group, but no one knew who the birthday girls were. CRT was also very nice, with table decorations, an excellent mini birthday cake and some bday wishes from our server and the princesses. Chef Mickey's celebrated everybody's special occasions as a group, with the Celebrate song, but she did get her own cupcake and candle with Minnie there to witness. We got the birthday placemats at both CRT and Chef Mickey's. Very nice moments all, but kind of expected and not as "magical" as some of our other moments.

She got the most special attention at Everything Pop, Main Street USA, and Le Cellier. At Everything Pop merchandise, a CM noticed her Aurora costume. DD talked with her a while and mentioned that the next day was her birthday. She wanted to do a pin trade, but the CM just gave it to her instead of trading. Then the CM had Goofy sing Happy Birthday to her on the phone and gave her a Magical Moments certificate signed by Goofy. In the food court, another CM DD spoke with learned it was her bday and sang to her in Spanish.

The best was dinner at Le Cellier. When we checked in (at 4:10!), I mentioned that her birthday was the next day and that she had chosen this restaurant because she loved the chocolate moose last time. She ended up becoming a "Jr Chef" and getting to assemble her own moose, with the help of Chef David. She also got a birthday card from the entire staff.

On her actual birthday morning, we were walking down Main Street to get to our 8:05 CRT PS. There was a group of CMs in training of some sort. One of the group leaders noticed her Cinderella costume and started talking to her. Of course DD mentioned that it was her bday, so the CM told her that she had some royal subjects here and had the whole group (25 or so) sing to her! She also gave her a pin from her lanyard without trading for it.

As we settled in for our nap that afternoon, I mentally patted myself on the back, reflected on our good luck, and thanked this board for all of the great ideas. After basking in the feeling of being the "Bestest mommy in the whole entire world" (her words, not mine), I heard a knock on the door. DD was still asleep, but when she woke up, she saw the balloons and autographed photo card of Cinderella that Pop Century had provided.

The only downside of all this was DD asking me, "Is my birthday ruined now forever?" Yes, I guess she's peaked at the ripe old age of 5.
Any further questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Celebrating a Birthday at the Happiest Place On Earth is absolutely the best!!! We took our youngest
to celebrate her 5th a couple of years ago (well, the rest of us went too! LOL), and she still talks about
how wonderful it was!!!
princess:
When we checked in at POFQ we had a most wonderful CM check us in. While chit chatting with her I
mentioned that it was our little one's bday the next day and she asked who her favorite character was and
said she may be able to arrange a bit of a surprise. Well, as we were settling in (I ran ahead and set up streamers
and happy birthday banners and left a 'surprise' for her - a Belle costume), someone knocked on the door and it
was a CM with a most wonderful singing voice delivering balloons and an autographed photo of Belle and Beast!
Well, this just left our little chatter box speechless! LOL
:lovestruc
The following day we went to CRT for bday bkfst and we advised them ahead of time that it was her bday and they
also gave her tons of attention. We got her a gift and ran ahead of her to our table and left it at her seat, she
still thinks it was her special gift from Cinderella! All day long she was fussed over because, aside from her Bday pin,
she would loudly announce to everyone that it was HER day! LOL
:p
Later that night we went to 1900 Park Fare and had arranged for a cake. We reminded them upon arrival that it
was our dd's 5th bday and once again they fussed over her and oohed and aaahed over her beautiful Belle dress.
Prince Charming waltzed with her and Cinderella sang to her, it was absolutely glorious!!! I only wish that our
other two girls could have celebrated their days there, but it isn't possible because of school, but our little one's day
tends to fall around spring break, so we were able to go for her day. Even though it was not their bday, the CM's also
made them feel pretty special and that is something that we all appreciated!
:cloud9: princess: :cloud9:
Enjoy your Princess' special day ... oh if only someone would whisk me away to celebrate MY day there! LOL

We went down last August with my in-laws to celebrate our dd's 4th b'day(Which is also our anniv.). The trip was worth every penny. We mentioned the b'day when we made the reservation, at check in, and at every restaurant we went to. It worked out so well. It seemed she was sang to almost every night. Don't forget to pick up the birthday buttons at each park as well. For her birthday we did breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. She LOVES Mary Poppins. They decorated the table so nicely for her. Her own special placemat and a crown. At the end, they came and sang and brought her a cupcake. We had lunch at CRT. That was the best meal of the WHOLE trip. She had so much exclusive time with the princesses. I am sure her cheeks after all that smiling. She was floating on air by the time we left. During the parade at MK, many of the characters saw her button and stopped to wish her happy bday, before the parade began the whole crowd sang to her. When we got back to the hotel later that day, there were balloons and a personalized 5X7 of Cinderella (her favorite character) on the table in our room. By the end of this trip, our ds (2) was singing Happy Birthday everywhere we went. DD was a bit shy with the characters, but she still talks about that birthday. So much so, that we are going back for her b'day this year again!!! Unofortunately, for ds his bday is right at the beginning of the school year. We'll have to make it up to him in a few year ;)

You guys have given me the best information! I'm so grateful for all the ideas. They've been so helpful. We have never eaten at 1900 Park Fare, so that sounds great.

DD will be six, so I think it will be perfect timing for her! Her birthday is in July, so it might be a little crowded, but that's okay. How long in advance do you think you need to reserve the princess party?

Which princess party were you referring to? One of the meals? :)

Whoops! I just realized that I never posted the Princess Tea Party link. Yes, I know it's expensive, but I'm sure that I'll do it for my daughter once she's old enough (assuming she likes princesses! LOL). Here it is:

I guess Park Fare and also the Princess Tea Pary.

By the way, thanks for the PM! I tried to PM you back, but it your mailbox was full!

It's no longer full! Sorry about that! :goodvibes

Just curious for future reference -- where do you pick up the birthday buttons at each park?
thanks :)

Guest Relations. Sometimes they'll also hand you the phone for a call from Goofy!

I'm so glad I found this thread! How fun! Thanks to the poster and to everyone for sharing comments/ideas. I have 3 little girls and I hope to be able to celebrate some birthdays at Disney!
I have a question though -- is there any way to request an autographed photo of a princess that can be mailed from the park?? I have a daughter who is turning 7 next month -- and I wondered if I could somehow order an 8x10 autographed picture or something like that?? Just wondering if anyone knew if that type of service was available . . . princess:

We celebrated at Chef Mickey's. All of the characters seemed to make a "big deal" out of it. Earlier in the day when we were in the line to see Mickey, he noticed her birthday pin and led the crowd in singing Happy Birthday. The resort delivered a card and balloons. I actually teared up when the Main Street Quartet seranaded her. It was really a "magical" day :wizard: .
