Little boys and diapers

I have had the same situation with my ds. I have found Luvs work on him and that is it. Also, I adjust him when changing his diaper before bed to make sure he is pointing down.

I was going to suggest using Pampers Baby Dry but you already are. My son always leaked with Huggies, and I've heard the same from friends who are mom's of boys. We have recently tried Pampers Cruisers and they are great.

We have Daniel in a size 4 although he is only maybe 18lbs (at 11 months). He would blow out of the smaller sizes too often. They are a little big, but they fit fine around the legs. You might want to try a different size or maybe a different brand...buy small packages until you find what works.

Good luck!

Aiming the Winkie.......another bonding moment on the DIS.

Having had two girls first, I never gave a thought to the"position" I put my son in when he was born. Had the same wetting problem you describe and I couldn't get it because the diaper was mostly dry. My friend gave me the "aim" advice and my problems were solved. Pay close attention to the position and you will see results... Have fun!!

No leaky diapers with ds. He always wore Luvs.

oh yeah...definitely point it down! LOL!

When DS2 was little, we had a terrible time finding diapers that would fit and keep him clean. He was our "glow" baby as we referred to him because he was jaundice and had to have the blanket to get rid of it (can't remember what it was called). The diapers seemed to get in the way or something with it and he was always covered in mess.

Anyway, about that time, they changed Pampers to no longer have the plastic covering. I called Pampers and ask how I could find the plastic covered Pampers -- come to find out they actually suggested I try Luvs because they are made by the same company. Low and behold, they worked.

And, pointing him in the right direction should help! We are now working on the potty training and I keep having to remind DS2 to continue to point in the right direction -- it just never ends!!LOL!

I used to make sure I ran my finger under the "leak guard" when I put the diapers on, and that the leg holes were lined up right and not off center. I also found they leaked more often as we got close the the next size.

I still layer sheets with a waterproof mattress pad in between so that if we have an accident I can just pull of the top sheet and pad and there is another bed layer under it. I try to keep 3 layers on at one time, that way if there is spit up, or anything else, I can pull a layer off and I've never used more than 3 in a night.

I also had this problem with both of my DSs. My youngest is almost 7 months and we use Luvs without any problems. Huggies always leaked on both boys. I always aimed the winkie ;) and also always put the baby on one of the waterproof pads.

Here's a tip about the waterproof pads... When I was shopping for them, I noticed that you can buy a crib sized one for a better price than buying them cut into "lap pads." So I bought a full crib sized one and cut it into the sizes that I wanted. They are very handy.

If all else fails, I have also used Diaper Doublers. It basically looks like a maxi pad (without the sticky part) that you put in the diaper and it adds more absorbance. I have only ever seen them at Publix, although Babies R Us might have them.

Had the same problems with our DS (6 months old).
Do not like Huggies at all. We use Pampers Baby Dry. And switching to the next size up seemed to solve the problem. But I've been in the habbit of changing DS right before I go to bed. Luckily for us he usually sleeps right through it or he just gives a little smile and then falls back to sleep in a few minutes without a fuss.

DS is only a little over a month old, but we use cloth diapers and love them. They're much easier now than they used to be. You don't even have to pin the diapers. The covers hold them in place. I've heard great things about wool covers for babies who sleep through the night and tend to soak their diapers. We haven't had to buy any of those yet though because Jacob still wakes up to eat every 2 hours or so. I think the wool covers are around $20, but that's less than 2 bags of diapers and they last a really long time.

I loved Pampers for my daughter but they don't work for my son. I use Huggies Supreme for him and they work like a champ. I've heard that Huggies are better for boys. I also make sure his "Lil' Smokie" is pointing down when I put the diaper on. If it is up or to the side, he will leak instantly. Most places around here sell Huggies Supreme for the same price as regular Huggies too so look around. Good luck! :)
