Listening to other people give Disney advice...

A neighbor recently told me they were gonna go at spring break because it's not busy then (our break falls with Easter)

My roommate is from Florida and her brother and SIL both work at WDW, you'd think she'd be at least somewhat knowledgeable. The other day I mentioned capacity closings and she scoffed and said if she was going to go, she'd go at some time like Christmas when the parks are at their quietest...

There are threads like this on here all the time and I seriously never understand why. Why is it such a BIG, fascinating deal to hear people who are confused about transportation or logistics or whatever at Disney World? People act like hearing someone say that the Monorail goes to Hollywood Studios is just shocking and unbelievable.

People are wrong about everything, all the time. People think Germany is located south of the United States. People think Kareem Abdul Jabbar was a boxer. People think diet soda is good for them. People think "alot" is a word.

Um...people are dumb. A lot.

You sure Kareem Abdul Jabbar wasn't a boxer? I once saw him knock Larry Byrd to the floor...

We were at Downtown Disney getting off the boat from POFQ when we heard a woman tell her husband, "No, those boats don't go to Epcot, they only go to the Studios. We'll have to take a bus."

My DD turned to me and said, "They're going to be waiting a long time for that bus!" Let alone if they decide to try for the Studios instead. :)

When my wife and I were there for our first 'alone' disney vacation (and engagement) when we were about 18, we were getting off the monorail and headed from Epcot to the snowing on main street thing in the MK, we asked a guy in the monorail a stupid question. We were kind of Disney noobs, as we had each been there many many times, but had followed our parents around for the most part. I asked "Does this monorail go to MK?" I believe we were still on the monorail from Epcot, so I'm not really too sure what I was thinking. He said, "Yeah, you just wait on here and it'll take you there." When I realized we were just about alone on the monorail and everyone was leaving, I asked a CM, and they informed us that we needed to head to the other monorail. We rushed over to the other side, and low and behold, in the car we got in, there was the jerk that gave us the wrong advice. I just looked at him, smiled, and shook my head. Yes, it was a stupid question. I was a kid at the time, but for God's sakes. We would have probably missed the main street celebration had we went back to Epcot. Really!? People are unbelievable.

Other than that, I've had one other bad experience that comes to mind with misinformation. This is also my only bad experience with a Disney CM. Same trip as the other, funny enough, and same area. We were at the transportation and ticket center, and my wife had mentioned wanting to see The Wizarding World at Universal. We had flown to Orlando and taken the bus, so we had no car to get there. My dad had mentioned that he thought there might be a bus that goes from Disney to Universal. So it was late, and we were waiting for a monorail at a fairly empty station. So I decide to approach 2 CMs that are essentially just shooting the breeze. I asked them if there was in fact a bus that went to Universal and they guy was very rude. So rude, I almost gave him a piece of my mind at the moment and filed a complaint, but instead I just took the high road and let it be. He looked at me, laughed, and said "Are you joking?! Universal is our competitor. Why would we ever transport you or help you get there?" He went on an on. I considered telling him I was a business major and didn't need his 2 cents on business philosophy. I later saw buses leaving the ticket center that went to Universal.

This exactly! I love these posts as they always make me giggle. I don't know much about Disney and usually learn something too.

Me too. Makes me laugh, but I think of the poor people sent on a wild goose chase due to someone else's poor advice! Haha

We just got back from an amazing trip on Monday. Before we left I had sooo many people giving me advice on what to do and where to go on our trip. Probably about 85% of it was inaccurate. And I really think they under estimated how much I really know about WDW. So I just smiled and nodded while they talked. :)

Hubby and I were at his mom's house. We were saying how we can't wait to go back to WDW and we're planning a trip next November/December (2014). SIL spoke up and said she was there once as a kid (she's at least 40 now) and saw nothing special about it so she's never going back. She's grateful that her daughter wants nothing to do with it either. Please....how could a kid even form an opinion when she's been brainwashed. She had several other people at the table agreeing with her (none of them have ever been either!). ARGH! :rotfl2:

well, the last one has/had some truth to it...
MNSSHP/MVMCP used to only have around 250 tix alloted. not sure if that's still true because i haven't attended a party in many years..

I think there were 200 people in line just to see the dwarfs last time I went.

I chatted with a manager before one of the parties we attended. He said they were expecting a low attendance night at around 13K.

On our trip earlier this month, I heard a woman telling the people with her that she couldn't wait for them to take the monorail to Universal Studios to see Harry Potter Land.

Unless she meant they were taking the monorail to the TTC to catch a bus to Universal and just included IOA with her Universal comment, I'm sure that didn't go well.

See, I just like when friends try to tell me about WDW.

That sounds about right. IIRC, Birnbaum's Unofficial Guide to WDW... way back when... used to say they capped attendance at 20,000 tickets. This was the typical MK park attendance during their lowest season (January or September) dates back then so it made sense to me at the time.

Does anyone know what the cap is now? What's the max tickets that will be sold for any given party?

It seems like every single time I do rope drop at Hollywood Studios, I have somebody behind me that says something like "Look at all of those idiots running. They're just going to get stopped at another rope."

Of course, they don't get stopped at another rope. It isn't so bad that they were wrong, but the fact they are calling the runners idiots. When in fact....

With regard to the monorail, I wonder if some of the misinformation is attributable to the proposed high speed rail project that would have linked WDW with the airport. This project was actually greenlighted in 2010 and halted when federal funds were rejected by the Governor.

The misinformation that I hear most frequently is that fast passes are purchased. This too is usually confused with Universal 's front of line pass, so it's understandable. I think that Disney's system is confusing, and getting more so. But it's funny when people insist that FP has to be purchased. It makes me wonder if I should start selling them. Why not give people what they want?
