Hi all,

I know it has been mentioned in bits and pieces around, but I don't know if there is a thread out there for those of us who have never ordered camera stuff online and are looking for the best price that is not a scam...

www.bhphotovideo.com

I hear nothing but great things about them (thanks DIS!), but some things are priced better elsewhere.

We've ordered from www.ecost.com and www.buy.com with no problems, but their prices aren't the best.

I have checked www.resellerratings.com and most other places have very poor ratings. I found this site http://www.everyprice.com but am skeptical of their reviews.

Please list your favorite sites and why you go there. Thanks!

i've bought stuff ( camera stuff i mean) from buydig, beach, j&r, newegg, ecost( mem. cards) and never had a problem with any of them...I've bought other stuff( ipod, books misc) from amazon, no problem there either although one lens hood i bought from them was garbage. i've bought a few things from ebay, usually not a big problem ( twice didn't get what i ordered, once refunded with no problem once had to file a dispute which i won and got refunded)
buydig and beach usually have good prices, the others had the best price on what i wanted at the time.

subscribing, looking for best deal on a new lens for my canon rebel xt before trip in december

Buydig.com/Beachcamera.com - sister sites, but sometimes have different prices

I have made a few purchases off of them and have been very happy. They have never given me a hard sell or a pitch to buy more "overpriced" products. I have heard that they are more difficult to deal with on returns compared to B&H and Adorama. As long as you are careful with your delivery, then you should be safe with any of the respectable sites. For expensive stuff, I always insist that the delivery person stick around for a second to let me inspect the contents. If you sign for something and then find out that something is wrong or missing, then the only hope you have is that the seller believes you. If something is wrong, then refuse delivery.

I also like http://www.camerafilters.com Their stuff appears to be legit, they offer good prices, fast delivery, free shipping over $23, and 10% if you buy five items. You can get lens caps and rear caps for about a buck from these guys. I have bought off them multiple times without any problems.

KEH.com - great place for used stuff. I have also heard that they stand by their word if there is a problem. Bought two lenses off of them and both were of the quality and condition described.

jann1033, I also didn't have a problem with J&R, but resellerratings gives it an average rating, which makes me a bit skeptical about the ratings of other retailers...

...that's why I'm asking you, my DIS friends because I trust your opinions more than any review site... :thumbsup2

B&H hands down. I buy about 98% of my stuff from them.

For camera gear, based on my personal experience:

B&H
Beach/Buydig
Amazon
Sigma4Less
Robertsimaging.com
Dell (really!)
Butterfly (they do make a verification/upsell phone call, but not high pressure)

For memory and computer gear:
NewEgg (the absolute best there is)
Buy.com

I bought my camera from Beach with no problem. I was nervous since it was the first time ordering something like that on line, but they were great.

Broadway Photo advertises heavilly, but has a bad reputation. I think it makes sense to avoid them even though their prices are very good.

I ordered a PNY 1GB SD card from J&R last week for $1.98 after google checkout, had it in just a few days so I had nothing to complain about and what a great price!! This was my first time buying from them.

I also buy from beachcamera, buydig, adorama, amazon, buy.com, lensmateonline (for A610 and S3 adapters) and I've browsed bhphoto, KEH and sigma4less but haven't purchased anything from them yet.

i hope they are "overly strict" as i just bought a lens from digital foto and both resellers and bizrate rated them good so i hope they are right..their website just looks so cheezy it makes me nervous to buy from them :) but they had the best price ( so far it isn't late or anything)

My last camera came from Amazon (S2). I actually have bought a couple of tripods there too, though I think one of them came from a different company (shipped).

Although I wouldn't necessarily buy a camera from them (unless the price was REALLY great) I prefer to buy most of my SD memory cards from either newegg.com or zipzoomfly.com. I particularly like zipzoomfly due to the free 2 day shipping on most items. I've never had a problem with receiving an item that didn't work from either site, so I can't speak for their customer service. Alot of people say Newegg customer service is great, but IMHO if alot of people have had to speak to them, are their products all that great? Just a thought. :scratchin
