List of Sugar Free or Low Sugar Foods at WDW -->Updated<--

Thanks for starting this thread! My DH is diabetic as well. It's good to know that Disney does have some sugar free and no sugar added food!

My diabetic hubby got an absolutely wonderful sugarfree dessert at Le Cellier last year. I can't remember what it was called, but it was some kind of citrusy mousse or souffle, and it was truly wonderful. It wasn't on the menu, but it's what they produced when he asked for a sugar-free dessert. It does take a little while for them to make, so ask for it when you're ordering your dinner.

Boma has sugar-free cheesecake! You have to ask your server for it though, because it's kept in the refrigerator, instead of out with the other desserts. :goodvibes

Does anyone have any idea about carb counts for some of these items? My DH developed Type I diabetes very suddenly this year. Even with insulin and serious dietary changes, he is having control trouble.

Anyway, it's carbs, not just sugar that affects blood sugar and we have learned that many sugar-free or low sugar items still are quite high in carbs. Anyway to get carb info?

Thanks!

The restaurants will not give you a carb count. However, we just ask to speak to the chef and they will give you a list of ingrediants so that we can make our best guess from there.

My husband is also a Type I diabetic and I know it's all carbs so sometimes no sugar added just doesn't cut it. A few times they offered up fruit as an alternative, but my husband just cannot eat fruit - blows his blood sugar sky high. He loves desserts, so I make a wicked lo carb cheesecake, lo carb pumkin pie, chocolate mousse.

Disney certainly goes out of their way to accommodate him.

Thanks evedoe. I will ask sometimes. DH hates any sort of attention, so he may just stick to grilled meats and veggies, which is his staple diet these days. I have mastered mousse, haven't had much luck with cheesecake, but would love to make pumpkin pie for the holidays. Any chance you could PM me the recipe? Thanks!

Does any one know or have a list of any sugar free ice cream, etc. at Beaches and Cream? I love that place but was diagnosed diabetic in November. I can eat some of the regular food there but don't know about the desserts. Please help.

Holy Necro Batman!! I forgot about this thread. A great thread none-the-less. I wonder if we can get it restarted?

As to the question posed above me; I can't answer it but would love to see someone who can.

I love you DizzKneeGeek - this is exactly what I've been looking for - thank you so much!!! :thumbsup2
Can't believe your little girl's nearly two!!!

I was looking for sugarfree/lc desserts! My question is has the list had any major changes? Do you know if it is possible to find low glycemic fruit (berries) at wdw?

Also, as far as snacks go, what are our options? sweet or salty?

 thanks for your help!

DH is a Type I Diabetic with an insulin pump. We added a note to our ADR's about his dietary restrictions and at almost all the TS restaurants the chef would come out and speak with him. They would even walk him through the buffets to point out items with added sugar. His favorite desserts were at Yachtsman Steakhouse and Tutto Italia which had sugar free rasberry sorbet. He still talks about it. At 1900 Park Fare the chef did a beautiful presentation with fresh berries. She was a chef in training and she made him feel very special.

I'm not a no sugar eater but I accidently ordered something with no sugar at California Grill.

It's called the Chocolate Temptation and it was pretty good for not having any sugar in it.

It's a trio of stuff- berry chocolate thing, a chocolate pyramid of gelato and something with nuts... I'm sorry that wasn't too descriptive but it's what I can remember about it 8 months ago.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for posting this. I just recently found out I'm insulin resistant and I am on a very low carb, sugar-free diet. I have a big trip in October and THIS above all else is what I have been so worried about. I love carbs and sweets, but they will seriously send me into what I call a "sugar coma." I don't want to feel so crappy walking the parks all day. At the same time, I would to enjoy myself a little (in moderation). I am writing all the suggestions down for the trip. Thanks again!

Finally somebody understands how I feel. :yay:

Is it best to ask for the NS desserts when you make reservations? I am traveling with friends-all three wives have Type II diabetes so we always keep an eye out for each other. One caution to other diabetics-don't forget to eat or skip meals-did that on a recent cruise and had a hypoglycemic spell-awful.

guest relations for advice on sugar free options. If I glean any helpful information, I will be sure to post it here. I do believe it is best to add the information to your ADR's to ensure sugar free desserts are available at the table service locations, though from reading allears menus, it appears a vast majority of the TS have something. A lot of the CS do as well. I am hoping with all the extra activity my type 2 hubby will be able to indulge a little more!!
