March 31 through April 4. Our band will be heading to WDW on 4/3 and returning 4/9! I'd love to go, but these folks that organizd the trips have planned an off-site stay at a Quality Inn--what are they thinking????

My kid is just a freshman and we didn't have the opportunity to give any input into the decision since the planning was done last year! In fact, he wasn't even supposed to be going because the band was to play last spring BUT it was cancelled due to parent fears post-9/11. Still, the AP is burning a hole. . .

And here I thought every band in the world stayed at ASM! A neighbor of mine went a few years ago as a chaperone, and they stayed at ASM. They had a ball, and she thought the place was a real bargain. Off-site just isn't the same to me!

What in the world was the organizer thinking? If you're going to WDW to play, why aren't they staying at ASMu--I've never stayed at the value hotels, but I'd much rather do that than stay at a Quality Inn--I'm not even sure where or which one at this point.

Our band director is a little scattered--and in her defense--isn't the director planning it--we're going with another band as a collaborative effort. Apparently the other director has been arranging these trips for 20 years--I think he/she needs to get a clue. The plan--as it stands is to spend time doing things other than Disney--they're going to Wet 'N' Wild and that Mideval Show--these tickets were part of whatever "package" the other director put together.

Frankly, I'd like a crack at putting together a package. Since the band has drive time involved in this trip, they won't have all that much time. I would think they'd have been better served to stay on property at one of the values, get hoppers for the group, and maybe organize one dinner together somewhere. Of course, that's just my opinion. . .

I'm sure the kids will have a good time regardless--my son, however, has already said he really didn't care if he went or not given the agenda.

Tess, think of this trip as a research excursion. You can try to give greater Orlando a chance -- and see for yourself if the main draw really is WDW! Years back, my husband and I went down with my parents. My husband really wanted to see Universal, so Mom and I joined him. What a dump! I believe it is tons better now, but when we went it was the pitts. We rode the ET ride and it broke down while we were up in the car about 20 feet. We sat there for over 20 minutes with no announcement, nothing. I am terribly afraid of heights and was trying hard not to have a panic attack... Anyway, afterward we were sitting outside eating (after waiting forever in a food line for bad, overpriced food) and while we were eating, a young custodial emplyoyee stood beside our table, scraping bubblegum off the sidewalk. Gross! Mom and I were convinced on this day that DISNEY is magic and DISNEY is the only place to be! LOL! Nowadays, other attractions may be nice -- Seaworld, for example, is clean and very nice -- so maybe you will be pleasantly surprised. But as far as I am concerned, the only destination is WDW!
