List for Hilton Head - thoughts?

I have to agree that Salty Dog for the price results in either crying or laughing insanely :rotfl2: . When we were there in June last year, I think we would have had a better time for the money outside on the deck enjoying the music and the water with meals purchased at one of the outside vendors/bars. Don't think we'll eat there this time, or if we do since my parents have not yet been there, I will definitely not order the shrimp and grits special I tried. Sounded much better in words spoken than in food eaten:sad2:

We actually enjoyed our meal at Kingfisher (I think that's the name). It's walking distance from the resort at the entrance to the bridge. I had awesome she-crab soup and I noticed that in the bar they had some all you can eat crab leg or lobster specials I think. The patio/deck was great and overlooked the canal. We even saw dolphins splashing in the water, so I didn't feel so guilty that I took the dolphin excursion out of the budget. Definitely one of our better meals on our last trip.

We also ended up at an outside eatery at Harbourtown bec/we couldn't find Salty Dog the first visit and the lines at the other eateries were way too long. They had outside entertainment/singing and the area was under cover of many trees that were strung with lights. Awesome frozen drinks- will definitely hit this one again. :thumbsup2

We check in on Easter Sunday- perhaps we'll see you there!

A place that my DH and I enjoyed in Sept was Red Fish. It is close to Sticky Fingers, another of our favorites.

At Red Fish I had a wonderful shrimp and grits dish. Could have licked the bowl if it would not have been so tacky. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Nice atmosphere. When we went there was a family group, looked like several generations with young children, so they are welcomed also. I believe there was outside dining, but we ate inside so I don't remember. Don't remember what my Dh had but I know he enjoyed.

You will get a Hilton Head Island Restaurant guide with all the stuff when you check in.

Enjoy your trip!

We have been going to HHI for a few years now. One of our favorite places to go is Marley's right before you get to the Sea Pines entrance. They have a decent kids menu. Also have a good early bird special.
We also enjoy Skillets for breakfast. It is in Coligny Plaza. Also very kid friendly.
We are going the first week of June and will probably include Wild Wing cafe.
Have a great time!:cutie:

Salty Dog This has a fun WEBCAM! Have the kids made a sign to hold up! It's loads of fun. Live bands, but a lot of drinkers... Great shops in the area!

Scott’s Fishmarket (more expensive than Hudsons)
843-785-7575 Scotts has a nice outdoor eatting area we have always enjoyed.

Giuseppi’s (pizza, walking distance, near Piggly Wiggly) It wasnt bad. We also enjoyed Fuddruckers which is over there...

Crazy Crab We prefer the Crazy Crab that is before you get to the DVC Resort. It has a nice, but small play area for the kids, and a lovely view of the marsh.

Pirate’s Island Adventure Golf We are doing this for the first time in July.. the place looks great, and always has people golfing.

Sea Pines (large playground) GREAT Playground!!! Two thumbs up!
Shelter Cove (Shannon Tanner show) Heard nothing but good things, but we have yet to see the show.

My hubby and I wet to HHI in 2004 and loved Oyster Factory and Sea Shack. I'm looking forward to going back to both of them this fall (hopefully) and especially to enjoying them without the morning sickness!

Another thing we really liked was a day boat trip to Savannah. Very relaxing and good tours available. Don't think we'll be able to do it this time w/a 2 yr. old.

hudsons has a clown to keep kids attention during the long wait. I am not sure why it has a long wait. R.Ray only ate an appetizer portion of oysters, so she did not have to comment on the rest of the food. but, if you like big beach type seafood restauratns with lots of people and long waits then the Old Oyster Factory is better than Hudsons. I just don't go to places I have to wait too long.

I like san miguels, I like the early bird at Alexanders. ( i like sitting on the screened porched more than the food.) Wild Wings, Red Fish, Sticky Fingers.

I agree with what has been said about Salty Dog. we just got sandwiches and burgers for lunch and it was more than our dinner at Red Fish the night before. (we did the Early Bird.)

Check out Brewsters Ice Cream next to Guiseppies. it's really good.

Is there any place anyone enjoyed that is great for adults without small children?:confused3

we have enjoyed most of these places during our first 8 years of marriage. Now that we have toddlers it is harder to go to the restaurants that we used to love. our favorites used to be nice places that had outdoor or patio seating.

Alexanders, Red Fish, Eugenes, (it may have closed), There is a good and very nice Italian place over at the shops at wexford( I think, its nice and good.)

But all the family friendly places are very good. What I love about HHI is that you get away from all those national chain restaurants. You get to expericence great local owned and small regional chains that offer a great meal.

Great post. I was looking for restaurant info today. Any here for which we should make reservations ahead of time? We'll be there 4/14-21 spending the first night in Charleston. I'm really looking forward to the trip.

Keep the notes coming. Thanks.

This is all wonderful information! Dh and I are thinking of going down in October. How is the weather mid October? It is really hard finding information about the resort.

Hi there. I guess I'll add in my 2 cents.

Salty Dog - We have started making this a tradition. We just love the webcam. Fun to let your friends and family know when you're going and say HI, live. I also like the small shops. BUT if it's cool, try the inside Salty Dog (Shipwreck, I think???) . We tried this last time and the food was great!! The atmosphere is just great though outside at the other if weather is nice.

Santa Fe Cafe - Our favorite for best meal. BUT pricey. HOWEVER, we are a family that tries to share plates and it's not that bad if you do that. This is a great place also for an adults night out. I can't wait to go back here!

San Miguels- Love it just for the atmosphere. AGain, if it's nice sit outside. Not spectacular food but good and just a walk from the resort.

Signe's - Cute little bakery type shop. Tried the blackberry french toast. Reminded me a little more of bread pudding, but good. Key Lime bread pudding is great. Cookies are great. Fritatta (sp) is great and many other items. Can you tell this has become a regular as well???

Old Oyster Factory - Tried it once and wasn't all that impressed. Maybe just din't get the right things.

Giussepi's (sp) -- Another place we won't miss . Fun to ride bikes but takes a little longer than you think. Fun though. The only time the food was not superb here was when they were extremely busy (around Spring break last year) and our pizza was a tad too doughey.

Scott's - Went there the last time we were there in August. It's OK but a little too pricey and I just don't remember what I ate so I must not have been too impressed.

Places I want to try this time (we get to go Easter for a whole week. Any other time at HHI has been no more than 4 days) are Alexander's and Skillets and maybe King Fisher.
We did not get our waitlist at the Disney resort but we will be staying right across the way from you guys at Harbourside, right above the shops and restaurants. We will come over and visit. REally, I hope it will be OK if I at least come to the store b/k I need to finish up just a few other Easter basket items when I get there on Saturday.

ONe thing you might want to do as well is use one of the grills. WE had a great time doing that one night for burgers and just relaxed and enjoyed the view over the marsh and DH fished some.

Hope I helped some. You will LOVE this resort. We have taken several family members with us and they all love it!

I hope we get great weather like it is there this week and the first part of next!

If you stop by a Kroger brand grocery store - you can buy hamburgers shaped like Mickey Mouse.

Whatever you do, don't miss Signe's. You can get both breakfast, lunch sandwiches and salads, and snacks there (and Thanksgiving dinner-DH checked!). And the Salty Dog is fun for lunch. They have a Dafuskie Crab Cake sandwich that's very good.

We've been to HHI the 2nd week of May for the past 3 years (returning this year on May 12). We LOVE Signes-it's a highlight of our trip. They have great, homemade, fresh breakfasts and baked goods. It's a little off the beaten path but certainly worth the drive. Other favorites are Red Fish, Old Fort Pub and Sage.

Is Sea Shack for both lunch and dinner?

And does anyone know if the resort has Mickey bars? :mickeybar

Any places to get soft serve? (My DD can't have scooped ice cream.)

Thanks and thanks!

We just got back from HHI. We specifically looked for Mickey Bars, but sadly we found none. :sad1: Other frozen treats are available, but I did not see any soft serve at the Disney resort or beach house. I'm sure there must be some on the island though!

I can second the favorable opinions on Guiseppi's and The Old Oyster Factory. Lunch at The Salty Dog was OK, but it's more about the atmosphere than the food, in my opinion. Unfortunately when we were there yesterday, the atmosphere was too darn chilly to enjoy outdoor dining.
