Lisa's Weightloss Journal (comments welcomed!)

I am embarassed to write that this is the first time I have read your journal. I have to say that I am learning so much!!!!! I am going to try to make some of the meals that you write about. The ground beef with peppers, etc, sounds great and easy enough.

I look forward to reading more!!! Keep up the great work.

Thanks for sharing parts of your life and this journey with us through your journal.

Good morning, Lisa! Here's some extra :sunny: as you bravely face the scale. You go, girl!:Pinkbounc

Erin

Lisa, you've been doing so well and some of your meals sound soooo yummy!!! I hope the scale reflects all your hard work! If it doesn't, then it's defective!! We all know you're getting healthier and thinner!! :sunny:

Girls, I had my moment of truth this morning and it wasn't a pretty sight. I lost 1/2 lb, so I'm 184 1/2. I'm not a happy camper.

Ok, so now it's time to strategize. No ice cream this week at least until I weigh in again on Friday. Thanks for the encouragement, I sure do need it right now. I know I'll get over this hump but right now I'm a little frustrated.

Hope you low carbers were able to catch Food Network's special on low carb. It was really interesting and confirmed what I already knew. Have a great day ladies!

lisa.....half a pound is great!!!!!dont be down.......and you have enjoyed your lc ice cream....good for you!!!!!!........that half pound adds up to a lot over a year..........this is lifestyle not just diet, right? that scale number is not important!......i know you already know this.

You're absolutely right Deb and I'm reaaaaaally trying to keep that in mind. In addition to cutting back in the ice cream, I'm going to review my journal to see where I can make some other modifications. Thanks for the encouragement Deb, I really appreciate it. Tonight I'm going to peek at your journal as well as all of my other WISH buddies.

A1A1 thanks for dropping by. Don't be embarassed. I've been meaning to read your journal too but time get's away from us doensn't it? I'll be sure to read it tonight though!:D

Hi Lisa,

It's been a few days since I've been able to come over here and check on your progress. You should be so proud of the 1/2 pound you lost. I was not too pleased with my loss this week either and I am vowing to stay off the ice cream for a while. I don't know if it holds us back or not but it's starting to be a liability so I'm letting it go for a bit.

How are you? I hope things aren't too crazy for you right now. Hugs to you and keep up the great work. I think you are right to look back over your journal entries and see where you can make some adjustments. I've had to do the same thing.

Take care!

Ok, down the business of today's menu!

1/5/04:
Breakfast-1 slice of low carb toast, small cup of coffee sweetened with Splenda.

Lunch-Two hamburger patties with cheese, broccoli and green beans but just a small serving, about 1/2 cup, Crystal Light.

Dinner-I had breakfast for dinner tonight, two scrambled eggs and a hot link with 1/2 Fuze fruit drink.

Stayed at around 20 carbs today, not too shabby. I'm dying to have some low carb ice cream but I'll resist! I also have a couple of Atkins Endulge candy bars but I think I'll pass on those too for tonight.

I know I won't be able to resist the temptation to weigh myself tomorrow, so I won't even pretend. It's a bad habit that's hard to break. At least I don't smoke!

Lisa, things should be fairly calm this week but I'll still end up working 58 hours by the time Saturday comes. Thankfully my husband is supportive and is able to be home with the kids since he can set his own schedule when it comes to work. He's a mobile DJ and his gigs are usually only on the weekend in the evening. There's no way I could work the hours that I do without his help.

It looks like you and I won't be eating ice cream anytime soon. I'll wait until the weekend to indulge and I think that should be ok.

I thought about you last night because they gave a special on low carb diets on Food Network and they talked about South Beach in addition to Atkins. There was this chef that they profiled who lost something like 200 lbs. doing Atkins and now he specializes in low carb cooking at his restaurant. He made a delicious looking "pasta" with Alfredo sauce using spaghetti squash for noodles. I'm going to have to try the recipe. Oh, and his family lost weight too, wife 75 lbs, son 100 and another son as well. In total they lost over 500 lbs. I love low carb! Night night.

:D

Sounds like a great day for you. I like the sounds of that spaghetti squash recipe also.

What type of low carb bread are you using? I haven't seen any in our grocery stores.

Great job today.

Great job on the menu yesterday. I've got my Tivo set to record that program. I too, am having trouble resisting the ice cream. It keeps calling to me. We must resist. Have a great day.
Beth

Hi Lisa,

Perhaps we need to start a ice cream free challenge on the board! :teeth: That stuff can be pretty hard to resist. I am happy to hear that things are going well and you have so much support at home. Your work schedule is very intense so you need the help and I'm glad your DH is there for you.

Let's keep up the good work! I didn't see that special on tv. I wish I would have though. Wow a family that lost 500 pounds! Incredible.

Have a great day, Lisa!

Lisa and Beth, yes, we must resist! I did good last night and kept my promise that I would have no ice cream or low carb candy.

A1A1, last week I discovered a common brand of bread that now makes a low carb version, Roman Meal. It's 6 net carbs per slice, not too bad if you have a sandwich or a slice of toast on a day where you keep your carbs pretty low. My plan right now is that if I have a sandwich at lunch time, I'll only have say eggs and bacon for breakfast and for dinner I'll have some protein like steak or chicken with a small salad. I don't think it's a good idea for me to have a sandwich and ice cream on the same day either. That's pretty much my strategy to see if I can get the scale to move a little more this week.

So far this morning I've only had two slices of salami and a small cup of coffee. I have bread in the fridge here at work but I couldn't bring myself to eating any. For lunch I'll probably have the standard hamburger patties with veggies. I know I eat that pretty often, but lately I've been satisfied with that since our bistro is using a better quality ground beef. I have tons of tuna at home so I should make myself some tuna salad tonight that I can bring to work, maybe a tuna salad sandwich for lunch tomorrow. I'm making stif fry chicken and rice for my family tonight, so I'll have to think of an alternative for me. Maybe I could stick a couple of seasoned pieces of chicken in the oven.

Back to work for me!

You work schedule sounds like what mine used to be - a slow creep up from 40 to 50+ (mine topped out at 80+ and I found another job where at least they pay me OT for over 40). It's good your DH is very supportive.

Ice Creme - I finally picked up the Breyers vanilla to try and then we made up some slenda creme brulee - so I'm waiting for a while to try the Breyers. But its sounding like once you start on the ice cream, its hard to stop.

I missed the low-carb special on FoodNetwork - I'm hoping they will replay it sometime this week. We did see Rachel Ray's low-carb 30 minute meals show and got some good ideas from it.

Keep up the good steady work...I actually had to up the volume of food in order to start losing anything (but still stay around 20 carbs/day).

-Laurie

Too tired to write too much so here goes...

1/6/04:
Breakfast-I know this is going to sound weird but I had two slices of salami and small cup of coffee.

Lunch-Two hamburger patties w/cheese, green beans, Crystal Light.

Dinner-I had chicken stir fry after all but no rice of course. Oh man, I don't want to post this but I must. Honesty is the best policy, right? I had a low carb chocolate-peanut butter ice cream bar. My husband asked me to get him a regular super premium no less ice cream bar from the freezer. Well, just had to have one. I felt somewhat guilty, but then again no because at least it was low carb, right? Ok, I'm trying to rationalize here, work with me people! In my defense, I ate no bread today and I managed to stay within 20-25 carbs.

As for the scale tomorrow, I'm sorry to stay I won't be able to stay off of it. I'm not ready to go cold turkey yet. Think there's a support group out there for over-weighers anonymous?

Laurie, I'm fortunate that I get paid overtime. Even though I do case management which is usually a salaried position, it's union where I work, therefore time and a half applies which I love, love, love.

I'm going to have to try to catch that low carb recipe show you mentioned. Good night!:D

:sunny: Good morning, Lisa. Hope you have a good day. As far as that ice cream bar goes. . .well, you were really low carb for the day, so don't feel too guilty. :p

Keep up your great work. But really, salami for breakfast??!

Erin :D

Ok, the scale didn't move this morning.:( I know, I know....I shouldn't worry about what the scale says, right? I will say that I have a better outlook today because this morning when I put on my pants, they were looser than when I last wore them about a week and a half ago. I really need to get a measuring tape. I set out to get one when I started Atkins but they ran out at my local Target and I haven't attempted to get once since. Even if I keep answering the call of the scale, I'm going to keep a positive outlook and I won't stress, at least for this week. If I haven't lost anything by Monday, I'll revisit the idea of doing induction again, but hey, I have 4 days until then.

Lisa, don't worry about the scale. (Easy to say...like I don't jump on at least 3x a week) You are doing great at keeping your carbs low. Keep up the good work. Don't worry about the ice cream. I am fully convinced that ice cream is evil.
Beth

I hope you don't get the metal tape measure. I didn't have the real tape measure for so long, I kept trying to use the metal one out of the tool box. It didn't work. I laugh thinking about it.

Salami for breakfast sounds normal to me.

Don't worry about the low carb ic. You are doing great! Have a super day.

I weighed in this moring, drum roll please.......I'm down to 183 1/2 which means I've officially lost 40 1/2 pounds! So now I've decided not to go back on induction just yet. I need to accept that the scale is not going to move exactly the same week after week. As much as I'd love for the weight to come off faster, I suppose it's better this way. But 40 lbs. in approximately 4 months is not too shabby.

I'm going to go get my new clippie and will come back on my lunch hour to post yesterday's menu. Hopefully I'll have time to visit other journals.:D

I'm launching the fireworks now - 40 lbs - 4 months is fabulous!

(and sometimes I have salami for breakfast too...)

-Laurie
