Friday 22nd December - Animal Kingdom
Todays Orlando Sentinel says the weather is about to change. It looks very cloudy but at least it isnt raining and the sun is trying to break through. We are quite late getting up so its hunt the seat at breakfast again. DD & I do a little people watching most mornings & today we spot GI Joe in the breakfast room dressed head to toe in green combat gear (shorts, vest, hat) with desert boots and blacked out shades to match (all brand new). Hes strutting around with that dont I look fabulous expression. I look at DD and shes laughing so hard she has milk coming down her nose, decide its time to go.
We park in Unicorn and as ever there is a massive throng waiting for the train to take them to the park. As it is just a very short distance we walk to the gates and beat the train anyway. We head straight to EE and get FP for 11.30 and then join standby queue as only 20 minutes. I had reservations about riding as I know a number of Disers havent liked but thought nothing ventured nothing gained. The queue is entertaining though the first bit where everyone rings the bells is a bit annoying (we did it too so are just as guilty) and I liked the museum where they have remains of someones last trip. Anyway, on to the ride ....... I absolutely loved it. Very different, you need to do it a couple of times as the first time if youre like me you have your eyes shut as you dont know what to expect. The view from the top is amazing look left you can see the Epcot ball and beyond.
We stroll over to Dinoland for Primeval Whirl & come off more than a little dizzy then on to Dinosaur (could that be any noisier) they are just seating Nemo the Musical as we pass by so we take the opportunity to do it then. Its a absolute must do the costumes are amazing. Its a little slushy in parts (I must admit to getting a little teary eyed) so not really a boy thing (lets just say DS wasnt keen) & I would probably agree with DH that at about 40 mins (if I remember correctly) plus the time you spend seated before show starts (it filled really quickly) its about 10 minutes too long for how comfortable the benches are (you end up a bit numb around the derriere) but still well worth it.
On to Discovery Island where we do Tough to be a Bug (still makes me jump) and then to Pizzafari for a lunch of hot Italian meat sandwiches. We join the line for Kilamanjaro safaris which breaks down as we are about half way through queue so end up waiting at least an hour. Still well worth the wait as we see lots of animals. We find a nice spot to watch the parade with a yummy hot fudge sundae then have a look at the shops before heading over to the conservation station and catching the Festival of the Lion King.
We had a slightly early ADR for dinner at RFC (6pm) so headed out of the park and took a look at the shop while we waited to be called. We had a lovely central table right underneath the sky (which changes colour as you eat) our servers explained that the animals move every 10 minutes and you get a thunderstorm complete with rain every 20. We order a plate of nachos at share as an appetiser ......
as you can see it didnt leave much room for dinner
DD& I had chicken wraps, DH had a burger & DS hot dogs for our main meals. Absolutely stuffed we couldnt manage all our wraps so took them back to the hotel to put in the fridge for another time (still couldnt face them two days later when they went in the bin!) We planned to walk off dinner with a stroll aroud DTD but as we leave it starts spitting with rain which from nowhere turns torrential about halfway to the car. We sat in the car for a minute or two drying off and as it has now started to thunder too decide to just go back to the hotel. It proved to be the right decision as it continued to bucket it down until well into the night.
