WDW Trip Report-Part 2
Cast: Myself, Lisa 39, DH Tony 41, DD Ashley 14, Megan (Ashleys best friend) 14, and son Anthony, now 6.
When: Monday, June 11- Sunday, June 24, 2001. We drive from South Louisiana so the 1st and last day would be travel days as the trip is 11-12 hours, depending on number of stops.
Where: ASMovies 6 nights
Dolphin Last 6 nights
Im going to summarize the trip report into 3 segments: 1st week, 2nd week, and dining/meals.
Second Week
We slept until around 9 am then checked out the ASMovies. When we woke up, our friends had already checked out at about 6 am and were driving back home. We were out by 10 so we decided to go shopping at Beltz. We had breakfast at McDonalds then went to Beltz. We went to both Disney Outlets and a few other stores. On the way back to WDW, we stopped at a few souvenir shops to look for a sleeveless sleepshirt for women with Disney characters on the shirt (no luck).
We arrived at the Dolphin about 2 PM. Boy, this is a nice hotel. We were upgraded at check-in as I have a starwood preferred guest card and AP. The room they put us in was 3 times as big as our room at the ASMovies. It had a little kitchen/bar area with a coffee pot (we got 3 packs of coffee each morning), a queen size sleeper sofa, a full size Murphy bed, and a roll away twin bed. Best of all, when all the beds were made, it was very roomy. We had 4 chairs, 2 end/round tables, a love seat, and big sofa table and square coffee table. The room was on the 8th floor in the hall connecting the east and west elevators. We had a view of the ToT, the Sorcerers hat, the boat landing and were directly across from the Swan. I just loved this room. I even had the government rate of $129/night!
During this week, we went to EE at the Magic Kingdom on Thursday and slept late every day except that one day. We woke up each morning and the girls would get Krispy Kreme Donuts for breakfast. All I had to do was say Krispy Kreme and they would jump out of bed and head downstairs (in the night shorts).Tony went to the work out place on three mornings.
We would go to a park just to see/ride a certain attraction and would then leave to do something else. We also did water parks and Disney Quest this week as we have PAPs that will expire at end of July. I would drop Tony and Anthony at Disney Quest and girls and I even went to the Disney outlet in the Premium outlet malls, by the Shrine Church. We ate at the Dolphin Fountain one nights and Tubbies on another evening. The food was good.
We missed the food court and being able to charge stuff at WDW to our room but we liked it here. I love that oatmeal soap that housekeeping left.
On Tuesday, June 19th, I went to the CSR to meet Nutz4disney, Renee, from New Jersey. She stayed in a very nice suite. We had never toured the CSR and she gave us the grand tour. It is really nice, especially if your room is close to the main building, bus stop, etc. She was very nice and we would see each other again at the DIS meet at the PoC later that night.
We went to MK about 630 PM June 19th and boy, was it packed! I LOVE EE. Even Peter Pan had a 70-minute wait! I couldnt believe. Tony, Anthony, and I rode the TTA twice in a row then went to PoC to wait for the people. All together, 22 people (I think) showed up for the mini meet. Grumpy and Bashful even had a shirt she made for the event. Loved that shirt! Thanks Lauren K and Nutz for organizing this meet. I was able to associate names and faces. The DIS people are so nice. If you can, go to a meet, its fun! Its funny to see people who are Disney people and get on the internet boards all the time and at all hours (right Jezza?). After we rode PoC, we left MK as it was e-night and we would be staying for this.
Like I said, the week was for R & R and boy, did we rest. Some other friends were staying at the Swan and we visited with them. My daughter was able to go to a concert, BBMack, at MGM with her friend. In fact, I let the girls pretty much do things on their own (except for mealtimes when they came back). They had the radios and would always meet at the designated place on time.
We swam in the grotto pool each day. It was not as cold as we thought it would be. We also used the hot tubs each day. They were really hot! A few of the days it would rain but we would swim before or after the T-Storm. My son loved the slide at this pool. For 4 of these nights, we were able to see Illuminations from the hotel or Boardwalk area. We even heard the music.
I really liked this stay at the Dolphin. We probably wont be back anytime soon because Tony misses the being able to charge throughout the world and kids missed the food court. We checked out Sunday the 24th and made it home in 12 hours, with breakfast and late lunch stops.
It was a great trip!
