I know there are a lot of restrictions for taking liquids in your carry-on luggage.

I, however, can't figure out how much you're allowed if you check it?

There is an awesome pop made only in Kentucky that I am attempting to take to Florida with me when I visit my brother next week. It's one of those "special" treats but I really don't want to go to all the effort of carefully wrapping them up in my luggage if they're not allowed.

Anyone know if you're allowed to check soda in your luggage? :confused3

Someone can correct me. I taught due to the air pressure you can't pack soda due to it exploding.

You are permitted to pack soda in your checked luggage. But those who have luggage anywhere "downhill" from yours might not appreciate if you pack it!

Beyond that issue, keep in mind that water-like liquids weigh something like 8 pounds per gallon or so. One of my suitcases usually teeters pretty near the 50-pound mark, so I'd have trouble taking a few 2-liters with me.

You can always ship it!

Hmmm.. they're glass bottles. I was only going to try to wrap 4-5 up very carefully in my clothing.

Not think they'd make it?

You are definitely able to pack this into your checked luggage, but just watch how much you pack because of the weight. We've packed bottled water before and it doesn't take much to get to 50lbs!

When we cruise, we always bring a few bottles of wine and champagne with us. We use generous amounts of bubble wrap and then put the whole thing into a plastic bag so that if something does break, it doesn't trash the rest of our things in the suitcase.

Is shipping a possibility? They have special packaging for shipping bottles and such. :)

I wouldn't risk packing those in even checked luggage, and not just because of the air pressure. Have you ever seen the ramp agents load or unload luggage? Bags fall, bags get thrown...

Looks like a small bottle, not a 2-liter. Honestly, I'd give it a try. But I'd also take up a lot of room in my suitcase in efforts to both wrap (waterproof) and pad.

Just want to point out that soda will not explode due to differences in air pressure. Period. Rough handling from bag handlers is another story.

Personally, I'd risk it. Wrap carefully, and double bag so that if it does break, your stuff doesn't get soaked.

Wrap carefully in something that will protect the plastic bag from glass shards. If you aren't taking 2 suitcases, you might want to use one bag just for the soda (pop) . . . maybe even mark it fragile, medical supplies.

I thought about just getting a box and making it very padded and wrapping stuff up and just checking the box. I can't see the airline having a problem with it :confused3 so maybe I shall try that.

I would correct that and say 'so that if it does break, OTHER people's stuff doesn't get soaked.'

I and many other regular travellers here have had my suitcase and personal items ruined by someone else who carried liquids in their luggage. Just last week my delayed luggage arrived soaked in some kind of odd odour/liquid, and I had to dry clean or launder every single item of clothing inside.

Two words: Fed Ex. IMO it would be worth it to not have to worry about packing things in ten layers of plastic and bubble wrap. :)
