If you go on a liquid diet (which doesn't necessarily imply liquids but rather soft foods such as soups, jello, mashed potatos, applesauce, etc) is that a way to lose a little bit of weight quickly? I don't mean a ton of weight obviously but slimming by dropping just a few pounds. I heard that if you only eat soft foods like that then you'll drop a few pounds quickly. Does anyone know of it's true? I don't want to bother doing that if it isn't going to be successful. Thanks.

I don't think mashed potatoes are paticularly a diet food. Quick weight loss: unlimited veggies, lots of water, lean meats or high fiber protein, carbs with healthy fiber, low fat and make those healthy fats(avacados, olive oil) and excersize.

Thanks shortbun. I pretty much do that anyway, except I don't really get many carbs and I don't eat meat. I know the mashed potato thing sounds weird but it's jus what I heard...didn't know if it was true or not.

the quickest way to lose weight is to go no carbs or no bad carbs, I just lost 8 pounds this week doing it before my trip. I will give you a sample.

sample:

breakfast

2 scrambled eggs whites
1/2 grapefruit or other fresh fruit
1 cup green tea

lunch

large green salad with tuna, balsamic vinegar
water and green tea

dinner

grilled chicken with a good amount of stream veggies
water and green tea.

Here is a sample of a decent high protein diet that will not get you sick. there is fast weigh lose, and just use it for a week or two.

during this for snacks have a yogurt or two.
and make sure to drink lots of water.
I would also go with more turkey, there is lot of Heme iron in it.

Soups, jello, mashed potatos, applesauce,

There is not a single protein in that list, unless you make the soup a chicken stock. Even then, the protein is negligible. That is just bad nutrition.

Most weight loss during a diet in the first week is usually water weight. People can lose 5 lbs right there and think their diet is working.:sad2:

It is not. Potatoes are of the highest sugar/carb/glycemic index vegetables on the planet. It has higher number at 75-85 than a table sugar at 65.

Natasha recommended a sensible eating plan. and she's right about drinking plenty of water. That should be your liquid in diets. Water lubricates the system and help aid digestion and the burning of calories.

And nothing makes you pee like water. It stuff is liquid gold for a diet. Or any other time really.

As others have stated, stay away form the potatoes, that is a food that is HORRENDOUS. Although quite yummy. But really bad for the diet, even baked potatoes.

Here, I will give ya one more I do. It is pretty easy,
I stay within these guidelines.

Breakfast

low fat yogurt
1 apple or cup of fresh berries
green tea and water

lunch

lettuce wraps with grilled chicken breast with tossed salad
a drizzle of olive oil
green tea and water

Dinner

either ground turkey patties with salad
or a taco salad with using a 1 Lb of fat free turkey and one envelope of taco seasoning,
add on top of dark leafy greens
add tomatoes, red pepper, onions, some low fat cheese
green tea and water

snacks can do either low fat cottage cheese and or yogurt. Those are the
ones I tend to go with. and of course water thru out day.

sometimes people have trouble with green tea if they are anemic because it can make it worse, then just have black coffee, no sugar.

Oooo! I make a great ground turkey patty/burger. I add a huge dollop, like 2 Tbs of low fat Ranch dressing or low fat blue cheese dressing + a couple drops of Worchestershire sauce into one patty and add a couple tablespoons of oatmeal (for fiber & texture.)

It will feel really wet & soggy while you are mixing and shaping it. But, it will be fine. Turkey & chicken don't have much fat, so they tend to dry out during cooking. The extra moisture from the dressing makes it cook just right. :thumbsup2 They are really flavorful burgers.

Up your protein like mad, if you don't mind drinking it I know post bariatric patients have to get at least 80g protein a day in addition to suppliments (Iron, B12, Calcium etc.). Isopure, Syntax nectar protein is good, and some recommend muscle milk.

Just some thoughts...

:lovestruc

oh the adding the ranch sounds good! I usually just add some Worcestershire sauce and a tad of garlic powder!! yum!! Oh, I would make it but I just ate a 3 egg white with one yolk scrambled eggs with red peppers and onions, and I bite of low fat cottage cheese! lol
I am full!
maybe tonight!

OP- what does your common sense tell you about this suggested liquid diet?

We make a good one too that has low fat sour cream and chipotle Tabasco sauce in in. It's really good on the sandwich thins with avacado slices.

Since she's also the poster that will go a week with nothing but water...:rolleyes1

OP, you seem awfully obsessed with "your figure" (as you call it). Obsessing about the way you look is not healthy.

Op, I try to eat baby food in the place of meals and add to it some Rice protein mixed with almond milk. It works for me when I need to lose a couple of pounds:goodvibes

Natasha did have great suggestions for a wholesome healthy lifestyle change. I think you will need to remember that changing what you eat and how you view it is more than a diet.

********As always you should consult your personal Doctor before making any changes to or beginning a diet:rolleyes1********

The people I know that have had the most success with the l liquid diet kind of thing didn't go completely liquid but replaced one or two meals with a meal replacement shake. Slim Fast had the right idea IMO as far as that goes. I would go with a diferent product but keep their structure.

That baby food idea sounds awesome. I bet it doesn't have a lot of calories. I'm gonna check it out.

"What does common sense tell you about this liquid diet idea " ?? Well, if it works, then it sounds like a good plan to me. It's about the end results.

And to the one who said about me having nothing but water for a week. Yeah, and if you'd had to have colonoscopies and drink that crap they give you to drink to prepare for it, and then throwing it all up because it makes you sick so then it doesn't even work... then you'd be thinking of ways to get around it too. Not eating and just having water for a week sounds bad but I'd rather do that instead of drinking that nasty stuff. If you haven't had a colonoscopy then you wouldn't understand, and if you have had them then you understand how gross it is.
NOT trying to sound snarky or start anything, just explaining WHY I was only having water for a week- it had nothing to do with dieting. The post where I talked about this plan was in a thread someone started about preparing for colonoscopies; clearly my post about not eating for a week was about colonoscopies and not about diets.

THIS post, however, is about dieting.

I have had several of them. What I do is two weeks before having to do that stuff, I eat light daily, but mashed potatoes is not the answer!
got with more yogurt, and low ash foods that do not produce waste.
I would still eat eggs, etc. salads, carrots and green beans. and any berries.
you can do that just fine before having to drink that stuff. I have to do it this way because I have crohns and IBS and have a extreme reaction to that stuff.
but i do it.

You have my sympathies with the prep! I had the colonoscopy this past summer. I hope to never have that procedure repeated. Ugh. It's bad to be sick and have it. Awful. If there is ever a next time maybe ask for pills. I got the pills and while the whole thing was still unpleasant, it wasn't as bad as the drink sounds.

Have you tried the Flat Belly diet? I had success with it. Basically you reduce your sodium, sugar, and fat content and increase lean protein, good fats, veggies, and whole wheat. I'm not dieting now, but I did incorporate a good bit of the information into my daily eating habits.

OP I thought you are young, like in your twenties.
just wondering why you have had multiple colonoscopies? maybe there is some history there, I am guessing.
you don't have to post the exact reason. or maybe I am off on your age :)

but really a liquid diet is not healthy, not the way to go.

if you have any sort of colon/bowel issues, you should not be doing such extreme things.
a basic whole foods diet with plenty of fruit and veg for fiber is the best way to go.
cut out the bad carbs, stick with brown rice, maybe a sweet potato occasionally , they have a lower Glycemic index than a white potato ............
healthy proteins, good fats ( olive oil ). and you will lose weight.
in a healthy way.
good luck.
