I like Lipton Tea but I have a Keurig Coffee maker. What tea in K cups would have a similar taste. I tried the Earl Greys but I dont like the taste. Or I guess I should just use it for the hot water and keep using my tea bags

english breakfast tea is black tea just like lipton except I don't believe it has the orange pekoe in it too. I love Orange Pekoe tea, it tastes most like lipton to me.

we just use the tea bags because I cant find anything similar and tea bags are cheaper!

English Breakfast is very good as is the green tea for the Keurig machine. ITA with you on the Earl Grey. DH has a box of K-cups and I tried one. Definately not my taste.

DH has almost an entire box of Earl Grey, that he doesn't like. There needs to be a Keurig trading site somewhere.

OP--At bigcatcoffees you can create your own sample box, 25 cups-5 different flavors. It is nice to be able to try different ones without the commitment of an entire box.

You can also buy the my Kcup insert. Cut open the Lipton tea bag and just dump that in the insert and brew that way. Or you can just run the water through the Keurig and steep the traditional way. My DH prefers the My Kcup method though. Saves a lot of money!

Can someone explain the Keurig machine to me? (Please)

I've seen them and think I have the basic idea. I know you can make individual cups of coffee with it. Am I reading that you can make tea also? And what about hot chocolate?

I am thinking of donating a "hot beverage station" to my son's small indoor sports facility (as I myself like something when I'm there :cold: ). It started out I was going to donate my old coffee pot  (lol) but turns out there is only one plug in the location. I'd like to add something for hot water also (like an electric kettle), and seeing this I'm thinking maybe Keurig is the way to go if it can do different beverages. People could bring their own coffee/tea, etc, cups.

Thanks for any help you can offer. Let me know if you think this would work.

Most machines have a water reservoir. It takes a minute or two for that to heat up but then you can brew multiple cups in a row in just a few seconds. You just pop the kcup in, hit what size you want and it brews the cup in a few seconds. Take the kcup out, and throw it away. No mess at all. There is no cross contamination either...you can brew coffee, then tea, then hot chocolate and not get the priors taste in your cup.

The kcups are expensive though, usually 40-50 cents a cup. You can also just run water through the machine without a kcup and use packets of hot chocolate or tea bags. My husband and i only drink 1 cup each a day so it is perfect for us. I like flavored blends, he likes regular. It is also nice when company comes to have a variety of options....but it is expensive if you drink a lot of coffee. When we have big parties we put away the Keurig and just make big pots of coffee.

I like the English Breakfast tea K-cups even more than Lipton. Love it, actually.

Thank you, puffkin. It sounds like it would work, then.

Now to try to find one at a discount (anyone know any secrets? ;) ).

I agree, 50 cents/cup seems high for home brew, but it sure beats 2 bucks/cup for Dunkin Donuts!

This is my suggestion as well. I have the insert and bought loose Lipton tea from Amazon. It works well for both hot and iced tea.

I have found some of the English Breakfast brands to be very bitter. The loose Lipton definitely works better for me. I do like the Earl Gray. And Timothy's makes an Orange Indulgence tea that is delicious as a night time snack!

Yes, there are hot chocolate k-cups. However, most people I know don't like the taste of it (myself included).

Keurig's web site (www.keurig.com) has a list of coffees, teas and hot chocolates that are available. FYI - you don't have to buy directly from them. There are other sites, as well as BJ's, Bed Bath & Beyond and Staples were you can buy the boxes for about $10. Our local grocery stores just started carrying 12 count boxes.

Thank you.

I noticed in searching around there are other brands of K cups, too. I wonder if any of them are any better? http://astore.amazon.com/keurig-k-cups-20

I don't know; depends on your taste. DH drinks coffee (specifically Newman's Own), I drink tea.

At my last job they had a commercial Keruig machine that automatically dumped the cup into a bin when finished. My boss would order Green Mountain and Tulley's for coffee and Celestial Seasonings and one other tea brand that I can't think of right now.

Thought I'd update you nice folks.

I ran into BBB knowing I had a 20% off coupon in my purse. I decided to look at the individual (ie small) Keurigs, had done a quick online search to check them out. When I got in there, I realized those didn't have a removable water tank, so I began looking at the next one up that did.

I had some questions so a manager came over to help me. I decided to go with that one. But turns out they had none in stock. So I asked if I could buy the floor model, and she said she'd give me the more expensive one at the cost of the other. So I got the $169 one for $129 - and she said I could still use my coupon :woohoo: (which of course I couldn't find but they said I could just bring the slip back when I did and they'd credit me :thumbsup2 ). Good deal, I thought.

Turns out when we got there, another parent told me if he'd known I was getting one, we could have had his, which he hasn't used in two years. He told me to keep the one I bought for myself, and he'd bring his in. So it looks as if I'm a new Keurig owner as well. Ha! (DD12 is quite happy as she's always making herbal tea or hot chocolate.)

Yup, that's what I do (sometimes, anyway!) I actually found that it's easier to make tea the way I did before we had a Keurig though....nuke a mug of water for 2 1/2 minutes and steep the bag.;) But, yes, sometimes I do use the my K cup with the tea!
