Next month we are making our first trip to NY to see the Lion King on Brdwy. :yay:

We will only be in NY for Sunday and Monday. Was just wondering if anyone had any tips/suggestions about anything (the show, eating, places to go, World of Disney store, etc.).

Thanks much.

I've been to NYC several times for a girls shopping/theatre/touristy trip, however, I haven't been in a few years. I have seen Lion King, though, and let me tell you, DO NOT miss the beginning of the show. When it starts, no one is allowed in or out of the theatre for about 10 minutes or so. The show starts out like no Broadway show I've ever seen. Don't miss it!!!

Good places to eat...The (famous) Stage Deli (we always went after the show) and any of the Au Bon Pain bakeries are good for breakfast, lunch. Avoid Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood...decor is cool, but food is so-so.

Carriage ride through Central Park is a lot of fun. And I have heard that the Disney store and the Toys R Us in Times Square can't be missed!

Have a blast!

Kristin

Wow. I hadn't thought of a carriage ride. That sounds great!

Thank you. Great tips. :thumbsup2

Hi the show is awesome! you will love it besides WICKED that is our favorite and we have seen just about everything! Definetly do a carriage ride about 40.00 but worth it and go to the central park zoo it is small bet very sweet they also have a childrens petting /interactive center included. The Delacorte Music Clock is a must see, so whimsical. Depepnding on your show time the Museum of Natural History is fun especially if your child saw the movie or read the book Night at the Museum.
Favorite restaurant for family is John's Pizza on 44th between 7th and 8th great pizza but good dishes( italian) as well, you have to have pizza in NY. It's an old church. I agree all those theme restaurants very pricey and food is not good. For a special brunch or lunch , food ok but atmosphere great is Tavern on the Green in Central Park very pricey for ok food.
Toys R Us , Hershey Store all fun World of Disney ok DTD better if you have a daughter who is in to the American Girl Dolls there is the big super store showroom on 5th avenue I think (mother of boys and one daughter 22 kinda missed the boat on that)
Next to disney NYC my favorite place and home!

I live in NYC....I saw the Lion King if you get tickets to it try not to sit in the balcony of the theator...I sat up there I think visually it must look better being on the main floor. Also Wicked, Jersey Boys and Hairspray are FANTASTIC shows!!!!

If you are in the theator district try the BLUE FIN restaurant, China Grill and Bar Americain (Bobby Flay) all are EXCELLENT!!!

If you are looking for pizza try a PATSY's pizzeria (multiple locations throughout the city) they are awesome!!!!

Other new great restaurants that are not touristy at all are Buddakan, Del Posto in the meatpacking district. (just make reservations in advance they are really hot right now)

Enjoy your trip to NYC...You will love it!!!

If you have any other questions I will be happy to answer them i have lived in nyc my whole life

When we visit the city we like to eat at Jekyl and Hyde's restaurant.
Food is average...but its atmosphere your paying for....

Think rainforest cafe (talking things on the walls), combined with haunted mansion (the eyes in the pictures on the wall move!), In order to use the bathroom you need to push a bookcase to reveal the entrance (dont worry the waiter will point it out for you if you cant find it)

One tip however....There are 2 jeklyl and hydes....One is near central park and the other is in the Village. Make sure you go to the Central Park one. I gave you the address to central park one.

The Jekyll & Hyde Club is located just 1/2 blocks south of Central Park. Located within walking distance of Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, FAO Schwartz, Carnegie Hall, Times Square. Fifth Avenue Shopping, the Theater District, and many major hotels.

What great suggestions! My DS (6) loved Night at the Museum. I think he would really love that. Thank you. :cheer2:

That restaurant sounds great. Is the food really good there? Thank you for the tip. :)

We were lucky and got ORCH seats.

Do I need to make reservations for everything?
Should we eat before or after a 6:30 show?
Is there a good b'fast place near the Westin Times Square?
Is it safe to use the subway around Times Square and the Train Station?
Any precautions around Central Park?

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate the advice. :goodvibes

1. For the restaurants I mentioned Yes you def need to make reservations for them...considering you are going sunday-monday it shoudnt be that hard to get them. but def call in advance.

2. as far as the time of when you eat thats up to u...You can def eat before or after the show places in that area dont close early at all. i didnt know they had a 630 show..i thought broadway shows on sundays were 2 and 8...maybe they changed it

3 & 5. If you are coming over to the central park area or upper west side to see the museum of natural history. You can grab breakfast/brunch or lunch up here at two different places both excellent and you will be getting a real ny vibe not touristy at all and only a short walk to the musuem. a. Good enough to Eat on 83rd and Amsterdamn b.Sarabeth on 81st and Amsterdamn....if you want something to eat after the musuem...check out Isabellas, Pappardella or Cafe Frida...2 minute walk from the musuem.
as far as breakfast places by the westin i dont know any off the top of my head....try walking an avenue or two to 9th or 10th avenue (hells kitchen area) there are plenty of nice places there...plus go to the citysearch website it lists restaurants shows and attractions by area.

4. It safe to use the subway we use it all the time as well..i would think about 98 percent of the people in nyc use the subway its convenient super cheap and you dont have to sit in traffic....another option is walk ...

5. There are no precautions contrary to popular belief nyc is really safe. I walk around by myself all the time. just use common sense.

p.s. if you go to the musuem check out the cosmic collisions show at the planterium i just checked it out thursday its super cool...ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!

As another NY'er I second that the subway system is very safe, especially around that area.

You will absolutely love the Lion King!! Also, right after intermission is amazing. Personally, I would suggest eating before the show because it is approximately 2 1/2 hours so your DS may get very hungry.

There is a delicious Italian restaurant (it also has yummy thin crust pizza) that is reasonably priced called Don Giovanni's around 46th St & 9th Ave. There is a diner around 47th & Broadway that would be good for breakfast as well. It's also fun to get a pretzel from the carts on 5th Ave and if you like hot nuts (I forgot there exact name) I would do that as well.

The Central Park Zoo is great and you can watch them feed the sea lions and the penguins at certain times. FAO Schwartz is a definite must see especially for your DS (however there cafe is WAY overpriced), the World of Disney is cutesy and a fun thing to see, the M&M's store is great fun and make sure to go up to the 3rd floor.

A reminder, make sure you have very comfy shoes if you plan on doing a lot of walking. NY'ers, contrary to popular belief, are very nice and helpful but still be smart and don't walk with your pocketbook wide open. But most of all enjoy your time here!!!
