Lion King in 3D - is it worth it?

We never saw the Lion King in a big theater, but we had the tape and now the DVD. My youngest (age 12) wants to go see it in 3D, but I'm trying to justify spending the extra money on a 3D movie plus the popcorn and soda that will go with the movie.
Has anyone seen the 3D version and was it really that special?:confused3

I went last week with my daughter and totally thought it was worth it. It doesn't have things flying out at you because the movie wasn't intended to be 3D but it does have some depth to it now. I am glad I saw it this way.

Does your theatre have a free popcorn day? Our theatre offers free popcorn and drinks on Tuesdays so that's the day we went. It helps reduce the shock of a 3D ticket price. :thumbsup2

My DD13 and 2 friends went yesterday. They went to the 3D because as her friend put it, "I can watch 2D on my couch". They loved it. I think it is probably more seeing it on the big screen if they never have.

I took my kiddos (9 & 4,) Wed., and they both really liked it. They had actually never seen the movie at all before, so that helped me justify the price. I will say $32 for 2 kids and an adult to see a movie is pretty expensive, especially when that doesn't even include popcorn, but we had fun. Honestly, if my kids had already seen the regular movie, we probably wouldn't have spent the money to go see it in 3D.

I wouldn't spend the money. We did and were disappointed. I don't like having to watch movies with glasses on. Plus they didn't even have the really cool looking Lion King glasses. Also, the theater we went to didn't even let us keep our glasses afterwards.

The movie is not worth it.

My dd15 went last Friday and she LOVED the 3d. I think for this movie, it would be worth it.

My DD14 and her best friend saw it tonight and paid $13 per ticket. She said they really loved it and thought it was worth it. She's always loved The Lion King, but said now that she's a little older, she can really appreciate the beauty of the animation, the concept of "the circle of life" and the music. They were the oldest in the theater besides the parents though. :upsidedow

I just took DS8 and DS5 tonight. I normally won't pay for 3D because the last time we did, I didn't think it was worth it. But we had free tickets left from the m&m wrappers that had free movie money so we went. We loved it! I would totally pay the $30 it would have cost us. In fact, we may go back and pay! Our theater also has a free popcorn day (Mon) but I usually buy a large popcorn and soda and share (it's free refills on large sizes). It's about the only time I will let my kids drink soda so they love it! I'm sure if you splurge, it'll be worth it!

We thought it was worth it. However, it's only $8 to see a 3-D movie here ($7 if you remembered to bring your 3-D glasses from last time). Our theater was sold out. There were actually lots of teenagers in the audience as well as families with younger kids. I heard some kids singing along to the music. At the end of the show, everyone cheered, clapped, whistled, etc. It was a riot. Would I have paid $13? Probably not. We have a family of 6 and that really adds up. Our popcorn and soda is really cheap also. A large popcorn is $3, and a large soda is $1.75. :)

DH and I went last Tuesday afternoon, there were very few people in there - and it was $1 popcorn and soda day! Neither of us had seen it at the theater before, and we loved it! It wasn't 3D that makes you ill with things swerving and jumping.... It was great :)

We saw Toy Story went it came back in the theatres with 3d. It sucked. I love the movie but it wasn't worth it to see it againin 3d. Then again most 3D movies are horrible. Just my two cents.

We were going to go Thursday and then another offer of something to do came up and DD16 decided she'd rather do that. However, we also know in our family that sometimes when we go to the movies we get pop/popcorn, and sometimes we don't. If we'd gone that night, we were going after dinner and not getting snacks. The snacks really can add up!

I try to go to the matinees when I see 3D movies, since they are only $7.50 for the matinee ($5 + 2.50 for 3D). (We weren't going to be able to do that for Lion King, since DD isn't home this weekend.)

I was pregnant with DD when Lion King came out, and she was really excited about seeing it in the theater. We're hoping to be able to squeeze it into the schedule before it leaves the theaters.

I don't think it's worth it.

I took the family to see Lion King in 2D on Sunday and we all enjoyed it very much. While I was out of town this week for work, I went and saw LK 3D by myself on Tuesday night.

After seeing both versions, I am very glad that we didn't spent the money for the 3D version for the kids. (Would have cost us $50 vs $35 for the tickets.) It was fun, but there were very few scenes that were truly 3D type screens.

If I had it to do over, we would have just done 2D. As PPs have siad, there were not that many scenes that the 3d added much to. The opening scene was pretty neat though. Just not $21 (for me and DD4) worth of neat!
I will admit many of us in the theater were singing along. But we could have done that with the 2d as well!

Saw it last night, not worth it. We *only* paid $13.50 in 3-d charges since we had free movie passes. If I spent the full price I would have left sick to my stomach!

I agree with those who said that the 3D just wasn't worth it. That type of animation just doesn't translate well into 3D. I loved seeing it again but the 3D was really a waste! There are plenty of movies that I think warrant 3D but this just wasn't one of them.

DH and I tried to go to a 9:30 showing last night. We made it to the part where Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa were lying in the grass speculating about the stars before we had to get up and leave. I understand that it's an animated Disney film, and therefore geared toward kids, but who the heck brings infants and young toddlers to a 9:30pm movie?! We have a 2 y/o ourselves, and would not consider taking her to a theater at this age at ANY time of day, out of respect for other patrons. But 9:30 at night? REALLY?!

Anyway, besides the infants and toddlers, there were many older children who were being allowed to talk, walk around, and just be generally disruptive, as well as two middle aged childless women who seemed to have paid simply so that they could have background noise for their not so private conversation. We just got to the point where we had to leave before we started asking people what was wrong with them.

On the upside, we did get a refund on our ticket price, and thought the 3d was exceptionally well done.

Way worth it to see it on the big screen. 3D was nice but not amazing -- we went to the matinee at the cheaper theatre and paid $7.

We went with our two older sons and one girlfriend -- the youngest person in our group was 23! When it was originally released, we went with those two sons while grandma kept the two-week old baby -- that 17-year-old baby was visiting his girlfriend at college!

how odd...the majority of the audience for us last night at 7:15 was adult...

i thought the 3d was nice....not 'oooh..ahhhh'...but nice.
