Lion King in 3D - is it worth it?

DH and I tried to go to a 9:30 showing last night. We made it to the part where Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa were lying in the grass speculating about the stars before we had to get up and leave. I understand that it's an animated Disney film, and therefore geared toward kids, but who the heck brings infants and young toddlers to a 9:30pm movie?! We have a 2 y/o ourselves, and would not consider taking her to a theater at this age at ANY time of day, out of respect for other patrons. But 9:30 at night? REALLY?!

Anyway, besides the infants and toddlers, there were many older children who were being allowed to talk, walk around, and just be generally disruptive, as well as two middle aged childless women who seemed to have paid simply so that they could have background noise for their not so private conversation. We just got to the point where we had to leave before we started asking people what was wrong with them.

On the upside, we did get a refund on our ticket price, and thought the 3d was exceptionally well done.

We went last night and my normally very quiet DH said to a group of obnoxious teens near him VERY LOUDLY "Are you talking the whole movie or are you going to be quiet?"... Most of the theater turned around to look and those teens were SHAMED into being quiet. These were older teens that knew better.

I had a preschooler with her parents near me. The preschooler had a spinning/flashing red blue light toy that the parents knew about. Ok, they toy is alright during the previews or even as you walk in, but NOT DURING THE MOVIE. Parents told the kid many times to put it away, but kid didn't.

After it flashed near my eyes, I said to them VERY LOUDLY "Put that away!".. Mom pretends she doesn't know what I'm talking about and says "What?" I say The Flashlight.. Mom says "It's not a flashlight"... I say very sternly "You know what I'm talking about"... the toy went in her purse.. FINALLY.

I have no shame in correcting strangers if they have little to no manners. I am bold and fairly fearless.

We liked the movie, but didn't really think the 3d did anything for it. It maybe was a little more textured, but not much, it just looked like regular cartoon animation (I guess we get spoiled after all the Pixar innovations). I'd rather not wear the glasses either.

Anyway, we liked it but if I had to pay a lot more for 3d I totally wouldn't.

Also, any time you go see a movie like Lion King (while it has a great universal message, and I saw quite a few adults w/o children) you have to expect there will be LOTS of children and with that, their noise. I don't condone middle schoolers talking at all, and agree with saying something to them; but toddlers are not going to sit still nor should they have to, in my opinion, when they are at a movie made for them. It IS a cartoon, lol. Just my advice and opinion :).

I wouldn't spend the money. We did and were disappointed. I don't like having to watch movies with glasses on. Plus they didn't even have the really cool looking Lion King glasses. Also, the theater we went to didn't even let us keep our glasses afterwards.

The movie is not worth it.
WoW!! After I paid for them, they would've had to forcibly remove the 3D glasses from my hands or better yet my purse. Unless there was a sign posted when I purchased my ticket telling me that the glasses were a rental, then I have purchased them. Therefore they are now my property. I know theatres around here have bins where you can toss them so they can be recycled rather than just thrown away but to say you MUST, that's crazy!!

Yes it is your opinion, but it is my opinion that I Should NOT nor should anyone else have to tolerate a noisy toddler in a movie theatre. I DISAGREE that Disney makes its cartoons of this length for toddlers. They are smart enough to know that a toddler's attention span is no where close to the amount of time that these movies last. It is rude and inconsiderate of parents to think other guests should have to tolerate the noises of their VERY young children. We paid good money as well to enjoy watching the movie. I would like to be able to hear the dialogue of the movie, not your children. I am thankful that one of our local theaters (while polite) are firm about appropriate theatre behavior from guests of ALL ages. I believe this is due to management. I also think this is why a lot of parents will allow their young teens to go there unchaperoned as they know management doesn't tolerate nonsense.
Sorry for the temporary hijack....now back to our regularly scheduled topic....:goodvibes

DD18 has gone to see it twice. She LOVED it. Now Lion King is probably her all time favorite Disney movie, but she loved it....
I personally have not seen it yet. Haven't had the chance...

I had some fandango codes from the deal Sprint had going on last month so it only cost me $8 for my daughter and I to go see it in 3D. It was nice IMO but if I had not had those codes I probably wouldn't have paid the extra.

I was also able to get a free small popcorn from yahoo with the free popcorn promotion they are doing with Regal theaters.

A friendly reminder to everyone that "The Lion Ling 3D" will be released on Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + DVD + Digital copy combo pack on Tuesday, October 4 ("Week 1" prices for this set are expected to be around $30.00, before coupons/other promotional deals come into play).

With that said, I'll pass on the big screen showing and save my $$ for this set (I don't currently own a 3D HDTV, but when my current, older HD set finally bites the dust, I will then upgrade). In the meantime, the Blu-ray version will be a significant upgrade over my wife's VHS tape from the 90's.
