Linking a Cash Ressie & Points Ressie?

Has anyone ever done this? I'm currently doing an add-on, but even with the add-on (cannot do more at this time) I'm still short 92 points to be able to book a 1 Bedroom at VWL (7nights) and BCV (7nights). I thought of doing a studio for five nights (VWL) and then 1 BR for 9 nights (BCV) which would work out with my points. Then I keep on remembering how much we were getting on each other's nerves last year when we stayed in a studio!:o I guess as my children (11, 7, & 6yo) get older we need more space. I'm debating paying cash for 2 nights ($710.81 with 25% discount and 11.5 % tax) in a 1 BR at VWL and the other 3 nights with points. Can you link the ressies...meaning I DO NOT have to move? Also how many of you would vote to pay the cash, or would you just borrow the points? I've never "borrowed" and I'm afraid that I would eternally " be in the hole"! I will probably eventually end up adding-on some more points to cover my entire 14 night stay in a 1 Bedroom. Thanks for any advice/help. I'm really stuck trying to compute this.

I'm doing that for Easter. I have two nights at HH, then switch to cash for 2 nights (the points for the weekend are waaaayyyy too high), then back to points for one night.

MS will link the reservation so that you will stay in the same room and never move. However, you will get two separate confirmation sheets from MS but they reassured me that the reservations are linked.

I agree with the studio driving you nuts after a few days. I just have two little ones but lack of sleep or having to go to sleep at their bedtime makes me very grumpy on vacation :) We bought DVC so we could always have our OWN bedroom.

good luck, Marley

I did this in May at OKW, 1 bedroom. Arrived Friday, did Friday & Saturday nights on cash with member discount and then Sunday to Thursday nights points. They linked the reservations and said we would be guaranteed not to move. When we arrived on Friday, we got keys for the entire week. We got our trash & towel on Monday, so the cash nights were counted as nights 1 & 2. Everything was treated as 1 reservation (with 2 confirmations).

A couple weeks before our trip, AP rates came out that were about $20 less per night for the 2 nights. I talked to member services about linking an AP rate, they said they could note it but it would not be guaranteed not to move. We would have to checkout and check back in on Sunday. I decided it wasn't worth saving $40, so I just kept the member discount.

In my case, I paid about $640 for the 2 nights and saved 96 points, about $6.67 per point.

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably go with the cash for 2 nights. I hate the idea of borrowing that many points. Seems like it would take me forever to make that up.

We've done that once or twice, where we used points for the weekday nights and then paid cash for the weekend nights, to conserve points back in the day when we didn't have as many points as we do now.

They will not guarantee you that you won't have to move, but I htink they pretty much try to not have you move. After all, it's more work for them too!!!!!

Both times we did that, we did not have to move.

We did points, then cash, then points again. The entire ressie was linked but we had to get new keys for each time. Also, new parking passes for our car..........wasn't bad just a little inconvenient having to wait in line to get the new keys and passes...................(I went early for the last one and it was easier).

If you do all through MS, they should be able to link them with no problem. If you work through DVC and CRO, you may have problems and they cannot guarantee they will be linked. You may have to move in this scenario. Good luck.
